Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

haha, Mike enjoyed pushing my niece around in her pushchair a little bit too much - he was pushing it like it was a racing car...even doing sound effects as he went round corners....such a child! lol. I text mike today saying "would you wear baby in a baby sling/carrier" i bet he had to google what it was before he responded, but surprisingly he actually said he would like to carry baby! We shall see! I have to confess there is something that melts my heart when i see a man wearing a baby in a sling so i hope he does take his turn to wear baby. :)
I get that melting when I see a man holding a baby.. Especially a new baby.. Could almost cry!!!
I hate seeing blokes on their own wheeling a pram.. Just looks wrong.. Though Jonathan doesn't walk anywhere
I think he'd be the same with pushing a pram.. (The racing car thing...) lol.. My poor baby...
Though (i've just realised) he doesn't be first to pull prams off the display to "test" them... Then asks what he meant to be checking for.. LOL

I'm not getting one but that's because I once saw a lady fall over with one on and grazed all her baby's face. Scared me to death as I thought she'd squashed the baby and put me off for life. Not trying to scare any of you, just giving my reasoning for not wanting one. But it's like anything else, what is right for one of us might not be right for everyone else. So I cant give advice on a good one to buy but, like Frances, I didn't want to read and run. x

I love seeing men with pushchairs. Nice that there is equality. Think we will get a sling but not sure which. Would be useful in the house so that I have two hands to do things but still baby safe and close to my skin.

That's pretty much my idea, just like the idea of having him close if I need to be busy around the house. Dunno if I'll use it outside yet or not, will see how round the house wearing goes first. Some babies don't like it apparently so you never know until baby arrives I guess!

God, that'd put me off too if I'd seen that happen! Glad the little 'un was ok though. Must have been terrifying for the mum too... This is one of the reasons why I'm not sure about wearing one outside, I'd need to get my confidence up around the house first for sure.

The ones I'm looking at are pretty inexpensive so not too much money lost if it doesn't work out. Plus the resale value seems to be pretty decent so could end up only losing a couple of quid. Will wait til baby's here and then pick one up I think :)

I wasn't sure on the baby wearing thing, but a friend of mine loaned me a 'kari-me' sling which is basically a really long piece of material. I do like it but now she is getting heavier it can be a bit of a struggle! Was good when she was little tho, just for popping to the shops or post office etc. might have a look for the libraries/groups, be a good way of trying out different ones! X

Girls

I've been getting quite a bit of back ache this morning that sort of goes round into the bottom of my tummy, a bit like period pain. It's not really painful, just uncomfortable. My tummy hasn't done the tightening thing and at first I thought it was trapped wind but it definitely isn't. It comes and goes but not consistently. Had it for about half an hour this morning and it's just come back in ten past hour. Has anyone else had this at 34 weeks? Could it be BH's?

It might be...how often is it happening? Baby moving ok? X

It's happened about 3-4 times today. Baby is moving as much as normal, which isn't loads but my placenta is anterior so I don't feel all it's wriggles anyway. It's just stuck it's foot in my ribs so hard it made me shout out!! Haha. X

Ok, well I would suggest you keep an eye on it and if it becomes more often or painful give your assessment unit/labour ward a ring just to be on the safe side! It may just be Braxton hicks! Naughty baby! Xx

Thanks Susie. It's not too bad, it's more of an ache, but some of the ache is down below how it feels just before a period starts. I'll definitely keep an eye on it!! You're a star xx

My bump feels really tender to the touch, stretching pains again?

Yeah definately keep an eye on it and if it becomes anyway regular ring the maternity ward Sarah. Hope it goes away for you xx

Baby better behave and stay in there for a few more weeks ;-) it last for about half an hour then goes away for an hour or so but for the past two hours it hasn't gone away. It's not getting any worse though. Gonna have the bath I didn't get earlier xx

already been said for what id say! keep eye on it, make sure baby still wriggling & possibly call ward just to let them know. x

How's it doing now Sarah? X

It's still there but not really painful, just achey. I know this is tmi but I'm wondering whether it could be a toilet issue? I don't go every day and haven't been for maybe 2-3 days? Plus my friend said her baby started engaging at this stage and she started getting pains in the bottom of her bump. I'm gonna see what it's like in the morning, and see how many kicks we get out of baby tonight and in the morning, and if it's no better I'll ring the maternity unit xx

I get the period and back pain thing, had it for a few weeks now. Like when you're just coming on... I get it with BH usually, have had it this evening. It lasts for a while, comes and goes a bit for a few hours and then goes off and I don't get it again for a day or so. Can't really add anything else other than what everyone's already said. Keep an eye on it! xxx

Sounds like a plan Sarah. Like you say it could be a toilet thing but worth keeping an eye on. These babies! Like to keep us on our toes! Xx

Hi hun
How you feeling/doing?
Was thinking about you today-hope everything is ok.
Not long now? Did try send you a msg but it says you need to clear some space! Lol!

I know when I rang them about it the other week they said that it wasn't uncommon to get period pain later on and told me to go in if it got worse but it never did, just stayed constant for a while and then went. Next midwife appointment baby had started engaging so it could have been related? There's a lot of pressure going on down there! xxx
