Ladies just out of interest - this may be a question for Susie but what do you guys think about the measurements from your 20 week scan ?
I was just browsing through my hospital notes and noticed that my baby's femur length was in the 15th percentile and its weight in the 22nd percentile everything else was pretty much around the middle mark . I'm not particularly worried just interested I guess .
Do we think these measurements mean anything this early on ? Do they tend to relate to the actual birth weight or can this change significantly by the time the baby is ready to be born?
Xxx

Not too sure hun. Ive always just been told that baby is measuring bang on where he should be according to the chart in my notes. Only thing we have realised/got told when we had our 28 week 3D scan is that baby's leg length is off the chart lol I guess he'll be long/tall :p

We got given a print out with a graph on it and baby's measurements go on there. We were told that as long as the measurements were within the three lines on the graph and in proportion with each other then they were happy - we did get told that he might be a long baby though as he has a proportionally longer femur length than anything else! At our growth scan at 34 weeks we were given an estimated weight of between 8-9lbs which puts him in the larger end of normal but still normal. He still has long legs too apparently - can't wait to see what he'll come out looking like! If they've not said anything with the measurements I wouldn't worry :) xxx

Yeah pretty much what the others have put! It's all an average and it just gives a vague idea as to if baby is growing properly. But it doesn't give any real idea as to what weight will be at the end, cos they might be short (ie. short femur length) and really tubby and weigh the same as a really long and skinny baby! As long as the growth is consistent that's what's important. If you had a baby for instance whose femur was on the 50th centile at 20 weeks, then a scan at 28 weeks showed it to be on 25th, they would rescan 2 weeks later and if it's say dropped to 20th they would keep a close eye to see if here were any problems. If it was on 25th it means is consistent and that's fine.
It's not the perfect solution but it's the best we have!

Thank you for clearing that up Susie I'm sure what will be will be and as long as I have a healthy and happy baby I don't care how big or small it is or what it weighs xxx

my gosh very tmi here... im just over 14 weeks and did you stuffer with excess (stuff) from vagina? i went shopping with my sisters the other day and was needing to go to the loo like every 20mins as felt id of wet myself! :( I didnt have any change for any panty liners so had to use tissue paper to help. So embarrassing, my sisters just thought i was peeing a lot, couldnt bare to say why i 'needed to toilet' x

I'm so not looking forward to the maternity pads, they look horrific! I hate pads anyway but those huge thick ones are awful *shudder*

Might be worth getting a swab done just in case, I had loads of dc and sent a swab and had thrush but didn't have the usual symptoms. The canesten pessaries work well!
I personally found matty pads to be crap-they leaked (sorry tmi) but I have always needed the ones with wings. I found always night towels to be the best! X

Oh really? Like always night time with wings? I thought about getting them but thought the huge ones would be better... But I get if they squish in the middle they're not going to give the coverage are they?!

Nope! I find they squish in the middle! And having a baby is undignified enough without having to go the midwife station and explain you're very sorry, and you know you have only just arrived on the ward but you've had a leak and can you have a new sheet....cringe. :/

I would still buy some maternity pads too - cos of my episiotomy and infection the always pads weren't acceptable because of the sent they include - it irritated the episiotomy and ended up not being able to use them. Also I had to change every joy for a while and maternity pads are about £1 per pack. Going through a pack a day wasn't a big expense - the always ones absorb better and lock it away but then u r tempted to not change often and that can lead to infection ( or so I was told! I used maternity pads for about 4 weeks) after the 4 weeks body form with wings don't have any added smell to then and didn't irritate - just a thought!? Xx

Great tip.. Thank you :) Won't feel as though I've a double decker bus in between my legs!!!!! lol

I've got 4 packs of maternity pads in already :) So i'll be covered :)

Anyone any idea, on average, how many packs are needed? Or is it down to each n every individual really? Guess it is....

Also... Anyone else getting nose bleeds??? I've had at least 2 a day for the last 3 r 4 days... Wake up every morning feeling like I'm coming down with a cold but I know that's just down to the extra blood flow and having been lying down through the night.. Soon as am up half hour r so my nose has cleared and all is good so its def not a cold... The bleeds are quite annoying and as they happen randomly I'm constantly at my nose checking.. but am sure people in work think am picking it!!!

Ahh good to know people's experience of pads, i haven't bought anything so will have some maternity pads and some always nights/bodyform ones in the bag as well.

Frances - YES YES YES, i had 2 nosebleeds yesterday!!! I woke up in the morning about 5am convinced i was coming down with a cold (seem to be stuffy at night), so blew my nose and that started the first one. Wasn't bad, but flipping annoying at 5am when all i wanted to do was sleep! Then when i woke up at my normal time i wiped my nose and gave it a little blow (i know i shouldn't really have done that but it felt gross after the first bleed) and then i had another nosebleed - much smaller but still very irritating.

I didn't dare blow my nose this morning lol. I guess it must be hormones/increased blood supply. My mum reassured me it was perfectly normal after i text her in a panic !

Oh bless you.. I knew it was "normal" as its been mentioned in app updates a few times.. But no-one here had mentioned so I wasn't thinking it wasn't very common... Its very annoying.. And yes.. Your nose feel disgusting after you've had one... I probably irritate mine as I keep blowing my nose.. It feels like it needs to be blown!!!! lol
