Red Riding Hood diary take two - deliver the picnic basket don't eat it!

You are good not drinking Donna. Must admit I don''t drink a lot but when I do go out (rarely) I always end up drinking more than I meant to and swearing off drink the next day.

My day was ok, just finished tutoring and have some work to do to get ready for tomorrow night. I also have 2 wedding cards to make for someone. So I'll need to get on.

The only exciting thing today was food related (other than the usual tribulations of two small boys and them fighting and losing things). We went out at the weekend to try and find these cherry bakewell Alpen Lights and the Tesco Chocolate tea and some Linda McCartney red onion sausages but didn't find any of them :( but tonight OH came home from work with all of them!! So that was exciting (I'm so sad for being excited about that).

The soup was great - really filling and it made a lot so I have some to freeze for days I can't (be bothered ;) ) to cook. I really made it up as I went along so no real recipe - this is what I did though:

I used 2 very lean gammon steaks - Tesco healthy eating ones they had no fat on them but were quite chunky and came in a pack of two. I cut them into cubes and cooked them in a couple of sprays of frylight, then I added a load of veggies - 1 red pepper, 1 green pepper, 3 stick celery, 1 large courgette, some mushrooms, 1 onion, 3 cloves garlic all chopped semi-finely - not too little)

then I added some chilli powder and chilli flakes, 2 tins of chopped tomatoes (I did this in 2 pans btw) and 1 carton of passata, and stock.

1 tin flageolet beans, 1 tin haricot beans - I left out the lentils in the end,

then some wholewheat farfelle - you could break up wholewheat spaghetti too. Then left it to simmer for a bit at the end I added some spinach leaves and basil leaves torn up.

That made a lot - and it is filling but great to split up and freeze - which is what I'm going to do. OH loved it too.

Ok off to see your diary now Donna :)

Hey Red, food all looking scrumptious!! You're so good at balancing your diet well and the key is that you love to cook which really is half the battle!! The other key is organisation and planning!!

Tell me, how do you make the salmon pate? This could become a firm fave of mine as I'm a big fish fan!! Do you just blitz smoked salmon, quark, lemon, black pepper and dill together? Is that what Donna does?

I totally agree about the new Greek style Mullerlights!! LOVE them!!

So glad you're embracing SW again! You're bound to be successful- just don't let any bad weeks throw you! You can't fail if you just keep on going!!XXX

Thanks Hevs,

Yes I just mashed the tinned salmon, about 2-3 heaped dessert spoons of quark and cut up some smoked salmon (only used a couple of slices and it was enough) and then herbs/spices/lemon and whiz it up. Lovely on round lettuce leaves all rolled up or folded like a wrap. I LOVE salmon pate so I would miss it but honestly this is just perfect for red and EE days.

I'm actually really enjoying being on SW again, obviously I wish I hadn't messed up so spectacularly but I am here to try again and I forgot how much I actually enjoy it and eating healthily. Need to remind myself of this so I'm writing it down here. Weigh in tomorrow though eeek. I actually don't mind a tiny loss as long as its a loss - fingers crossed.

This is today's plan so far:

Wednesday 25/04/12 – Red
Breakfast – .Bowl of fruit (pineapple, apple, grapes, satsuma) sprinkled with cinnamon and chocolate tea (black)
2 free sausages, 1 turkey rasher, 1 egg

Lunch – .Bowl superfree butternut squash soup, salmon/lettuce wraps and salad.

Dinner – .Bolognaise with a basil omelette and salad.

Snack – .

Hex A and B – .

Syns – .

Great thanks chick- I'll defo be putting this into practice and it's great for meals for work- I'm always on the lookout for ideas!!

Please don't beat yourself up about any weight you've gained and are now having to deal with!! You need to totally block out any past behaviour and concentrate on the positives, which are that 1) You want to address ANY extra weight you have and 2) You're willing to put the work in. You are here and doing it- many people would shy away from it for A LOT longer!!

I'm really glad you just said what you did about not being bothered about a big loss as long as it's a loss!! I have a feeling you may get quite a hefty loss, BUT what you just said shows that you get the point!! Of course we all like to see a nice big loss on those scales, but far too many people get hung up on churning out huge losses week after week which is quite frankly unsustainable long term and then the minute they start to (naturally) see them dwindling they get impatient and throw in the towel!! I would so much rather be (and have been!!) a 1/2-1lb a week tortoise loser but get there in the end, for it to become engrained in me as 'the way I eat now', and therefore feel I can keep it up for life!! XXX

What is chocolate tea?????

I had some muller coconut and vanilla pots delivered alongside some Alpen Light Cherry bakewells...heaven! These will certainly be my guilty pleasures this week

Let me know how Linda's sausages are - everyone is raving bout them - even my SW group who never have much nice to say about anything other than lying thru their teeth about being saintly all week even tho they have gained 4lbs!

Thanks for recipe - am going to make it over weekend - unless weather improves - can't be eating soup on hot days (weird aren't I?)

ps. I love your OH - mine would never stop in a supermarket he would just go without unless he could buy it in corner shop

I have to say this new Muller Greek style coconut and vanilla flavour yoghurt is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely a new favorite,
AGREED!

Hev - the salmon pate is amazing - I've never thought of adding tinned salmon as well...nom nom nom

GOOD LUCK FOR WEIGH IN TODAY - am working today so will check in tonightx

Hi Donna the chocolate tea is Tesco finest - it's really just tea but with a slightly chocolate taste. I've been drinking it black with a little sweetener. It's quite nice but it's still tea and not chocolate! :D

I like the cherry bakewell Alpens they are good but summer fruits are still my favourite. I LOVE the Linda McCartney sausages though, they are not remotely sausagey apart form in shape, they are very much veggie and taste a bit like stuffing but since I love stuffing they suit me fine. I tried the morello cherry Greek Mullerlights too but the coconut ones are the BEST.

Weighed in this morning and its a good job I didn't mind if it wasn't a big loss as it wasn't a big loss, but it was still a respectable loss of 3lbs so yay. :D

I think I'm going to have a green day today.

Yayyy Red, I've been in work all day and haven't really had time to play on my phone- patients are soooo inconsideratate lol!!! But I've been wondering how you got on at WI and very pleased to hear you had a very substantial loss indeed!! 3lb is a goodun!! Sounds like you're really embracing all the 'in' new food discoveries too!! I've tried the chocolate tea- our C gave us each one in class- I found it very pleasant but detected more vanilla than chocolate! Very palatable though all the same! Loving the cherry bakewell A.Ls but my fave is actually the choc/orange to be honest!! Agree with you on the coconut & vanilla Greek MLs!! Someone claimed the other day to have used one in a curry to create a creamy coconuttyness!! Sounds like it's worth a try!! I am waaaay behind on the L.McC's sausages though!! I've only recently discovered that they're free so I'll be stocking up on them! I lurrve veggie treats and quite often such delights are quite synful so this is great news! I also love stuffing!!

Isn't it fun to be back in the zone and back in the know!! SW is such a secret world that I honestly think that outsiders are missing out BIG TIME!!!

Keep the momentum up this week hun and we'll get you another loss next week just you watch- next week you'll break through that next stone barrier which is always a fantastic psychological acheivement!!XXXXX

Morning Red

prob really stupid question but what are LC susages? I know LM is Linda McCartney

2 LC sausages (2syns) turkey rashers, egg, 1 LM sausage

Light Choice - Tesco sausages. I've used up the packet now. I was just too lazy to type the whole thing out ;-) I had a packet in my freezer so I've just been using them up on red and EE days - they are the chilled ones I've frozen rather than the higher in syns type from the freezer section.

You may notice I got the syns wrong earlier in my diary but since I hadn't used all my syns on those days I've left it be.
