Red Riding Hood diary take two - deliver the picnic basket don't eat it!

Hey Red,

I found your diary. What a great read so far and well done on the 3lb loss! Great start.

Can I ask - I have always fancied trying the LMc Sausages but have always been wary - I hate hate hate the quorn sausages and I was worried that these will taste like cardboard too. Have you tried all flavours? Whats the best? And are they free?

Also can you please let me have the recipe for lentil bolognese? It is just the same tomato base as a regular spag bol?

Thanks
Charley xxx

Light Choice - Tesco sausages. I've used up the packet now. I was just too lazy to type the whole thing out ;-) I had a packet in my freezer so I've just been using them up on red and EE days - they are the chilled ones I've frozen rather than the higher in syns type from the freezer section.

You may notice I got the syns wrong earlier in my diary but since I hadn't used all my syns on those days I've left it be.

Oh thanks for that tip - haven't got my head round low syn sausages - although I must admit I (and I think rest of family) are preferring the LM or Quorn ones. But I want to sausage and mash so will grab a packet of Tesco LC :eating:

As for syns - my maths is crap - that wouldn't even have registered!!!

I actually like the Quorn sausages, I love Quorn. Anyway, the LM sausages are really nice - the ones I have been eating are the red onion and rosemary ones - which can be tricky to get hold of but are in the bigger stores and they are free. They don'[t taste like sausages though. They taste kind of like stuffing but I do like them. I haven't had the ordinary LM vggie sausages for a while but I believe they are about 2 syns each anyway.

The lentil bolognaise, I finely chop red and yellow peppers, a large courgette, mushrooms and onions and garlic and fry them in frylight then I add a tin of chopped tomatoes and some passata, add some stock and then red lentils. Cook until the lentils are soft. At the end I add torn basil leaves and oregano if I have it. I usually serve it with wholewheat spaghetti because I like it - although OH doesn't!

That's how I usually make it, I was vegetarian for 15 years (although I haven't been for the last 6) so I made all thee kind of dishes pre SW. On Britmums blog I saw she added some chopped sweet potato to the bolognaise, she says it cuts through the tartness of the tomatoes. Her recipes are excellent so I'm going to try that in mine next time.

I have to say this soup I made which is superfree is fantastic - it was made just to use up the broccoli and spinach that really needed to be used and I just added a (massive) leek - you should have seen the size of it - and and a couple of onions, some garlic herbs and a little grate of nutmeg. Really just a chuck everything in and hope for the best recipe but I'll definately be making it as a superfree soup again. I swear by the superfree soup, it saves me from snacking on other things all the time and handy pre meals to reduce the portions. That way I have a smaller potato or whatever.

This is today's food:

Sunday 6/05/12 – Easy Extra

Half a Tortilla (with mushrooms, onions, garlic, cottage cheese, leftover bulgar wheat and eggs) 2 turkey rashers, 2 LC sausages (2syns), LC baked beans

Hey Red, thanks for the sausage tip, I don't mind if they don't taste of sausage - I love love love stuffing, I could eat a whole packet of the stuff.

I am defo going to make the lentil bolognese too, I make a mean bolog sauce so I may just do that. I haven't done much lentil cooking - would I treat the lentils as I would mince meat? Ie cook it for an hour or so on low? Would the lentils hold up to long low cooking or dont they need that time? Thanks Red.

Have you tried the Egyptian Lentil Curry made with split lentils? It's the doggies do dahs.

I like wholemeal pasta - I try to keep as low GI as possible as I have PCOS.

Have a good bank holiday Red - do you have any plans?

Xx

I still can't get my head around lentils instead of mince - convince me ladies!

Donna, lentils are really nice. I promise I felt the same, I couldn't eat them everyday but they are a nice change to meat, and much cheaper too! Give them a whirl, but make sure you get the right ones for the meal you are attempting.

I cant seem to get rid of my mis post! So i am trying this!

:D Oh that's ok you just crash away - lol With the lentil bolognaise I'd cook a bit less time than the mince so you don't end up with mush.

Donna lentils are really nice. I love them. Green lentils are great in curries, as are red lentils. I like to mix green ones with extra lean mince and veggies to bulk it up and add loads. Try them - go on. They are a really cheap alternative to meat. I used them a lot when I did my degrees (and was very poor).

This is today's food:

Monday 7/05/12 – Green
Breakfast – .Bowl of fruit (pineapple, strawberry, grapes)
Other half of yesterday’s tortilla, 2 LM sausages
Lunch – .superfree soup, banana

Dinner – .Quorn Swedish style meatballs in a spicy vegetable sauce with wholemeal spaghetti – (HexA) cheese grated over. - mullerlight

Snack – .Apple, Highlights drink (2syns)

Hex A and B – .Light cheddar cheese (A) Alpen Light, Weetabix bar (B)

Syns – .2

I haven't tried that curry Charley, what's the recipe?

No all I did today was have a little play with the kids, did a bit of work. Baked cookies with the kids and let them decorate them (sooooooooooooo messy) and I didn't eat any!!

Hey Red, thanks for being understanding towards my lack of technical knowledge!

The recipe for Egyptian lentils is in my diary, I an trying to get Donna to try it, I had it yesterday and I have put piccies up. It is really tasty, like a dhal I suppose and it is full of carrots, so very nutritious. It's not hot, more sweet and buttery. I guess you could pack some heat in it if you wanted to though.

Well done for not succumbing to the cookies! Wild horses couldn't stop me from trying a straight from the oven cookie!

Have a good day Red! X

weigh in day today!!

(I'm getting some colour in here like Donna's diary)
:D:D:p

I lost ..... 5lbs!!! Great result, I'm very pleased.
:bliss:

So I'm glad I didn't succumb to the cookies, even though they smelled nice. I just hope I can do ok on Sunday at the christening I'm going to - also the inlaws house. I'm going to use syns today but keep them pretty low for the rest of the week just in case - although I fully intend to stay strictly on plan.

Charley I'm going to look for that recipe sounds right up my street.

I might not be on as much this week - so if I don't do enough diary visiting, forgive me. It's the week before the exams and I am very, very busy. I promise I'll make up for it when I haver less work.

and on that note.... I must go and do some work.

Wow wow wow wow wowwww!! What a fantastic loss hun!! You must be SOOOO pleased! Just shows that what you're doing is working and you seem to be eating very well!! As long as you're in the zone you can deal with any situation!! Just save some syns and eat fairly light until the Christening and have that bit extra/ a couple of naughty treats and you can still manage a loss next week! At least the pressure is off- you can just aim for 1/2 lb or something after this whopper you've just had!!XXX

Hi Hev, thanks :D

Evening chica - I'm home from a soggy visit to the UK and glad to be back in the sunshine.
Fantastic couple of weeks loss - 8 lbs. Wowwee :wow:

You food as ever is great - but I have to say I can't stand lentils. Not any variety - I've tried several here in Spain and they taste yuk to me.
You posted right at the beginning 4 x dark rye Ryvita (1/2 hexB) - don't know whether you sussed it now or not but 4 ryvita = 1 hexB

Right, I'm off to bed as it's now 1am here and I have to be up early.

Thanks Pommette - I'm sorry your visit was so soggy - but did you enjoy it anyway? Whereabouts did you go?

I think the post with the Ryvita was a poor bit of editing. I've always known they are 4 for 1 HexB as I have books here - I'm not sure what planet I was on when I wrote that. I probably had the right amount but didn't change the diary properly. Still, thank you for noticing, if it had been a mistake on my part and I'd actually counted it that way it could have slowed losses, so I appreciate the pointer. :)

Hope you have a lovely day. Just finished tutoring myself and have another coming soon so better get ready for the next one...

Hi hun, yesterday looks good to me!!! Anyway, you can cut yourself a little bit of slack this week (just not too much lol) as you had such a great loss last week! I think you've got the balance just right!!X

Oh wow, thats such a brilliant loss, well done Red! You really have hit the ground running!!!!

xx
