yey, good to see you back xx I wasnt telling you off, just didnt want you to be so hard on yourself for things outside of your control :)

sounds as if youve had a good weekend and isnt it great when clothes start to fit you again. I think often even when theres no actual weight loss in a week or so there can still be shape change, then the weight catches up. xx

Whether you were telling me off or not isn't important piX. The important thing is that you were right. When I look at my signature there are only two red weeks since I re-started my diet this year and both of them are for a 1lb gain. In the grand scheme of things, that's nothing. The diet to me is still very important and I am hard on myself on occasion but I do sometimes find that self-criticism also motivates me to try harder. I have set myself amended goals which I will hopefully manage to achieve this time.

I was wondering if a workout can give an instant increase in weight loss? The reason I ask is because I tried a different approach t my exercise routine and had a workout this morning. I've been finding it tougher to make time in the evening for a workout due to trying to juggle so many commitments just now. So, I realised that my mornings before I get up are just wasted with sleeping. There's nothing to stop me getting up an hour earlier and get a good workout in. Where this may be quite normal to a lot of you, I'm not what you could call a morning person! Anyhoo, I know I've changed my WI day to a Friday but I couldn't resist hopping on the scales on my old WI day (Tuesday) and was pleasantly surprised that I've dropped 2lbs since Friday!! However, I'm not sure if this is a proper indication or just a temporary light spell immediately following a workout session. Either way, I think I definitely need to be having another session on Friday morning before my official WI. Just in case! ;)

I watched Obese - A Year to Save My Life last night and I was totally motivated be the commitment of the guy on it. He just kept trying and trying and the results he got were testament to that. Over 12 stone in a year is some achievement! It's Biggest Loser tonight as well so more motivation! I may even have another wee workout when my son is in bed tonight. I've got a really nice pair of jeans I want to wear again!! :D

Good to see you all fired up again Kev.

I can't really comment re the exercise v weight thing but I suppose if you haven't replaced fluids lost during exercise by the time you WI it could have a temporary effect, but I wouldn't risk it as getting too dehydrated is so bad for you when exercising. I wouldn't have thought any permanent effect of exercise would be evident that quickly but as I haven't exercised properly for some years I can't really comment. ;-)

I'd have thought it might be fluid related too but the exercise is going to help without doubt! I have two friends who have lost 8 and 6 stones respectively with SW and they are definitely my inspiration especially as the one who has lost 8 stones ( in 16 months ) has had a huge number of things to deal with. She doenst even see it until you show her the photos as its been slow and steady weight loss - she's a new woman!
xx

I think the sensible thing to do in the name of science is to have my workout as normal on Friday morning but weigh myself before and after to see if it makes a difference. Obviously the lower of the two weights will be the one I class as my official WI though! Lol.

I look forward to finding out the result. :D

Have a good day.

Im interested to find out too! xxx

Well ladies, I'll be sure to post on here early tomorrow with the results of my little science experiment. That's assuming of course that I manage to get up on time to do the exercise. That's be no means a certainty! Lol.

Nothing over exciting going on in my life right now. I've been toying with the idea of going for a new job offshore but I'm torn. Not over happy with my job at the moment but it gets me home every night. If I went offshore I'd be working 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off. That's an amazing rota as I'm sure you'll all agree but it's still 2 weeks at a time away from my son. He's only 4. After talking it through with my GF in some depth last night I'm leaning towards sticking with the current job and seeing how I can best improve it to suit me better. For now, I'll just have to do the best I can for everyone. It may be that I can get the best of both worlds if I set my mind to it.

taps foot impatiently for news :p

that's a tricky decision workwise.. I hope you manage to work through a compromise to tide you over to a great onshore job appearing for you. xx

Well, I suppose I better put everyone out of their misery. I've no doubt that you're all waiting with baited breath for the massive scientific breakthrough? After a long deliberation of approximately 2 and a half minutes I can safely say that the results are in and they are very much conclusive.

After getting up this morning, I weighed myself and the scales very kindly told me I was 233.8lbs. I always round to the nearest half pound so that would have given me an excellent weight loss of 2lbs for the week. I wasn't finished there though! Oh no, I had bigger things planned! I then went through to the living room to do a medium intensity workout on EA Active 2 (on the PS3). The workout took approximately 31 minutes and I was suitably out of breath afterwards. During the workout I never drank and didn't go to the toilet. Prepare the drum roll........................

Following the workout I once again weighed myself. I'd dropped in that half an hour to 233.2lbs. That is a 0.6lb loss!! Although by my system of rounding off to the nearest half pound it's a whole extra pound for my WI today!! :D:D:D:D:D Yay!! It just goes to show that the last minute workout does have an effect.

And therein ends todays science lesson boys and girls. ;)

well whadda you know! great weight loss week for you then Magnus Pike ;-) ...chuckle, you're probably too young to remember him and his programmes !

I had to Google Magnus Pyke there to see if my memory was jogged at all. Unfortunately I think you might be right in your assessment. As a regular panelist on the show Don't Ask Me between 1974 and 1979 I would have been -3 to 2. Then when he hosted Don't Just Sit There from 1979 to 1980 I was 2-3. I'm guessing here but I probably wasn't in to science programmes at that stage of my life. Although his co-presenter was David Bellamy and I do remember him so it's not all bad.

I do feel very good about my loss this week as I'm feeling a lot less like I'm on a diet now. SW has really become the normal way for me to eat meals now and I'm more than happy to maintain that pattern. Keeping the exercise going and keeping the treats to a minimum is my main area where I need to remain motivated. I now only have 2lbs to lose in the next week to reach my 1st stone and I'm feeling relatively confident. XXX

jeez now I feel really old!! At 45 Im determined not to become middle aged before my time though...getting slinkier is definitely part of that plan !

I love Magnus Pike's shows ...he was very eccentric and the object of many impressions lol

Thanks Prof. All very interesting. Would likely help me more if I did exercise:eek: Haven't got to that bit yet.

Have a good w/end:D
I wouldn't say I was doing much too taxing but I suppose it all helps. A half hour with an exercise game 3 times a week seems to work ok for me. I'll up it when I get fitter I think.

Hope you have a good weekend too. X

Fabulous lesson learned for the day. I now know a vigorous Thursday morning workout is a must! ;) Thank you ! xxx

Hi piX. I'm ok and haven't fallen off the edge of the world or anything.

I've been staying quiet this week out of guilt I suppose. I've not been sticking to plan, not been caring that I've not been sticking to plan and not really wanting to pollute the forum with my poor attitude. I have been following other people's threads but just avoiding commenting due to my lack of drive and motivation when others are trying so hard.

I can blame the fact that my GF's parents have been staying with us all week and whenever that happens, the drinks and snacks are out in force! I could refuse it all and stick to my principles but on this occasion I chose not to. I felt bad that I would likely miss my goal of the first stone again this morning but figured I'd just go for it next week.

I did do WI this morning and I yet again feel guilty for my result. I STS this morning which I know I didn't deserve. I've not been dieting or exercising this week so I deserved a gain. Especially when so many people I see on here have gained while still trying so hard. The only possible reason I can think of for my result is that I've spent a lot of time working outside in the garden. I may see more of the result of straying from plan next week but I'll just have to wait and see.

Anyhoo, house guests are leaving today, I had a good breakfast and am planning a good lunch so it's back on plan as of today. I've dodged a bullet and I don't want to seem ungrateful for that. Now, I must go and update my sig!
