Sandra's maintenance diary.....

Oh I'm so sorry, my sister has degenerative disk disease in her neck, she's had a couple of disks replaced with little metal cages but the future doesn't look bright. It's all about pain management when it gets to that stage isn't it? I can understand that it's also important to keep your weight down, but it's easier said than done when you can barely move.

Thank god for drugs....oh and vodka ;)

Exactly ... That's why I was so over the moon when I discovered LP. Prior to that weight went up and up no matter what, cos of metabolism changes due to being sedentary! I'm not allowed weight bearing exercise (couldn't anyway) and whenever I did manage to lose anything, it would stop at - 10lb max then go up and up again as I couldn't burn when my body started seizing onto food! I used to get so frustrated but docs kept saying nothing I cud do and and should accept and avoid putting even put more pressure on myself by trying ... Boo sucks to them I say!!! pmsl

Anyway it's all in the past now and I hopefully will keep weight under control. At least I know I can turn to LP for short burst if necessary!

Please don't think I'm courting sympathy - I only mentioned my history cos of what uve been dealing with! I don't tend to mention it much! (bet u don't believe that, given my last few posts lol).

So sorry about ur sister, thats awful! My 3 lowest disc/facet joints in back are deteriorating too (god I sound like a copy cat!!!) but nowhere near needing cages! How awful for her...

Whether you are asking for it or not you ARE going to get my sympathy........I have every sympathy for anyone trying to deal with both chronic or acute pain, in my experience this then leads to depression, weight gain is inevitable, how can it not be? which leads to more depression, which leads to comfort eating.....the whole thing is a spiral and I really admire you for getting to grips with the weight bit of it.

My sister started ww last week and has lost 4lbs so far, I think she needs to lose about 3 stones and I really want to help her as much as I can. She knows that a wheelchair is inevitable but obviously wants to stave it off for as long as possible. She, too, lives in hope that technology will come up with something to help her cos she can't have another operation as they will only do it once......

When are you going to start ww?

Awwww thanks!

A big up for ur sister - 4lb is fab! I really hope it works for her! Am sending her (and you) keep strong vibes!! In fact, take a big squeezy hug too!

Day 4 refeed today so WW start on Thursday! Can't come soon enough! I hate mixing shakes with food - always had gains b4 in refeed that have proved by experience to be linked to the mix cos as soon as I drop the shake and start my morning porridge, it balances back out! Probly something to do with my physical body! If I was brave enough, I'd drop them now and grab my oats so simple, but I'm mega paranoid about meddling with the reintroduce in right quantities in right order theory!!! Lol - scaredy cat!

Did I read that u have ur official WI tomorrow?! You never know, u may have magical drop tonight. Not that 1lb isn't good enuff strictly speaking - it's just I know u cud do with the boost to kick the disheartened sense into touch...

Vx

Thx x

I did refeed before the op but I don't think that I did it properly cos I was terrified of putting on weight too so I almost completely avoided carbs until I went into hospital and had to eat them! Somehow, no idea how, I managed to avoid putting weight on........I'm sure that it balances itself out in the end......in any event I wish that I had had time to get to goal before I gave up LT, I also wish that I hadn't had to eat on occasion, to take meds, cos I didn't lose quite as quickly as I would've liked:sigh:

I am huge prrodge fan, I have a tip, mix it half and half with Moonflake 100% oat bran, it really increases the amount of dietary fibre and gets your tummy working really well iyknwim?! I know it's purely psychological but I feel a lot better if not constipated, sorry tmi! especially after LT.

Lol u can tell how fired up I am at tho mo when it resulting in me actuallly writing Moonflake down so I dont forget!

Re constipation lol. I was all smug cos o didn't get it during LP this time, or diarrhoea! Anyway smug'ness deserves fate stepping in and it's certainly stepped in so far this week with one spectacularly solved by the second! What were you saying about too much information? Pmsl (or should that be Smsl) ...

Oh Sorreeeeee x

Gross but funny all the same! X

Sandra, I think you are being a little too hard on yourself. You really should stick with WW for a few weeks before deciding to do anything else. In the context of what you feel you have left to lose a pound actually is 10% of it so it represents a very good loss!! Perhaps keep a closer eye to portion sizes and also up your water intake. I have found that any time I have stalled a little, that this is where I have had a problem. Generally, cutting back a little and keeping water at 3-4 litres a day helps bring me back on line.
You have done so well with losing the weight together with having serious health issues to contend with. You are an inspiration to everyone here.

Thx Molly, I am just impatient! I purposely stuck to ready meals this week so that I didn't go overboard on the portions and kept an eye on the fruit.....I guess that I should just chill:sigh: I just expected to lose at least a couple of lbs....

Yep, the patience bit is the tough part for us all. What I try to focus on is that getting to target is only the beginning. It is the hovering around it for the future that it is the really hard part. That's why Minimins and everyone on it is a lifeline.
Your body has probably become used to the lower calorie intake at present so perhaps cut back just a little this week and see what happens at your next weigh in. Also, don't forget that getting back to the gym means you are building muscle which weighs heavier.

Ah ready meals! Problem solved.

The stuff they put in (preservatives sodium etc) slows down body processing food! Cook from fresh always better - obviously ready meals okay once, maybe twice/week but no more... But it's never fat, it's just 'holding on' weight so will adjust on scales in time - just takes longer to show!

Another way to get round it, is an extra litre of water if u have a ready meal! same as if u eat a lot salt on a meal or have popcorn for instance - salt dehydrates so body holds onto to more water causing retention ... More water ensures u flush it thru quicker without retaining!

Scuse me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs - so to speak! I can revert to toilet humour if u prefer xxx

Zebs, I'm inclined to agree with you on that one. Cooking from fresh is best as you know exactly what is in it. I used to use ready meals but on following GL I gave them up and instead preprepare some meals so I have my own "ready meals" handy for when I'm late or just can't be bothered. A

How'd you get on Sandra? Hope you're happier than me :( xx

Do you honestly reckon that it's the ready meals? I don't usually eat that many as a rule as I like cooking but I didn't have the calculator thingy at the beginning of the week and they were on special offer in Marks so I thought that I was being clever......will eat the ones that are in the freezer on my busy days but will go back to cooking!

Actually I think that I could do with stepping up the water again, I think I've let it slip a bit since the op cos it was a pain in the ar8e dragging myself to the loo all the time.....

BTW .....my wi stuck at a measly pound:sigh:

How'd you get on Sandra? Hope you're happier than me :( xx

Haven't seen your loss yet.....but no, thoroughly pissed off actually with my bloody solitary little pound.......

I hope that this week is better

Monday....

Had physio first thing which went great, managed to get up a really good sweat! Had my appointment with the heart specialist which didn't go so great:sigh:I still apparently have irregularities and have to have more tests again. Dr doesn't understand it either cos I feel great, BP is a bit low but ok, cholesterol is good, weight is ok......anyway I'm not going to dwell on it.....

Only lost that bloody pound after a whole week of counting, got to be positive and tell myself that it's a respectable loss considering.........but can't help feeling disappointed....going to try as Vanessa suggested and avoid the ready meals, even if they are easier to point:)

Today's food

B branflakes and milk (6pp) actimel (1pp) vitamin C drink (0pp)
L 100g Brie (8pp) 200g grapes (0pp) - thx Tanya :)
D cod in parsley sauce (4pp) jacket potato (8pp) brussel sprouts, broccoli, carrots (0pp) 2 clementines (0pp)
Hot choc (1pp)

Total 28

Slushies 0/49

Looks like I've already gone over today! Didn't look at how many pp there was going to be in my chunk of Brie before I ate it, and had grapes rather
than my usual apple cos they needed eating! Not good.....but.....I did do the physio, must work out activity points, there used to be some on the discover plan............got the grapes wrong!

I'd settle for that pound hon  ... I know what you mean tho ... keep at it! I think I need to up the water too.xx

Glad your physio went well but 'ecky thump about the other stuff :( ... good idea not to dwell on it - no point really

Your friend did also say if you ate a ready meal to drink an extra litre of water which would compensate don't forget :) xx

Sandra a 1lb loss is brilliant :D Im sure a few of us on here would happily take that! hehe

Sorry to hear about your other stuff going on but i'm sure it will be sorted in time.

Good idea to not have ready meals & stick to cooking :) Always tastes so much better too! :p xxx

Really chuffed ur physio went well but sorry to hear other appt wasn't so upbeat! Never rains but it pours eh! I'm gonna muster-up a big breath and blow them clouds away from you .... poufft!

Take a hug and stay strong x

Thanks all. The heart thingy is a bit scary and the tests are a pain(have been through it all before) but have no alternative, been to too many funerals recently without having to contemplate my own!

Need to look at pp's BEFORE I eat in future though......:sigh:
