hi sarah, do what you think is best when ur ready ! you wouldnt train for a tricathlon from doing absolutely no excercise previously, you wld build up to it gradually set yourself small goals to start with & im sure once you start healthy eating and see just a few lbs drop off it will spur you on to do more, once you've achieved a little you will gain ur confidence back in yourself and believe in yourself more and gradually build up to the gym and training, if you set too much for yourself in one go, it's more likely to lead to you falling off the wagon big style. good luck x
