Scrumbles' diary...life after losing a third of me...

Sweetie - you're 12 stone - that so isn't obese!!!!

Did you check out the salt angle? Sorry if you did and I missed it.

Well.... I'm only just in the 12's, and technically, going by the BMI charts, I still have a BMI in the obese range, and that's what they look at :(. And maybe it will improve the more weight I lose? Until I've lost all my excess I can't really argue the case very convincingly.

I'll try having something salty before I go out - or even take something with me in case I start feeling off. I haven't done any walking since the incident on Friday (bit scared now, tbh), but I'll have to tomorrow, so I'll see how it goes. :)

Well done on the beetroot Scrummie... Good choice! Lol xx :)

Down another half pound to 180lbs this morning. Well, actually, it was 179.8lbs, but I round up/down to the nearest half pound so I'm not claiming the 170's quite yet! Sooooooo close...be glad when I get there 'cos then I can stop weighing every flipping day, lol.

Just realised that one more pound and I'll have lost 4.5 stone, which is the most I've ever lost in one continuous effort. (Shame on me for needing to lose so much again, but still an achievement.) And I'll need to start thinking about my ultimate goal soon. I originally set it for 12 stone because 5 stone was as much as I could bear to contemplate having to lose at the time, but I know that isn't low enough. I'm thinking 10st 7lbs may be about right - puts me in my healthy weight range for my height and gives me a little bit of leeway to fluctuate.

Long way to go still, but I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel...

So delighted for you, hun! xxx

Well done Scrummie, that's a huge chunk to lose.

And just to put it into perpective it's the equivalent of an elephant's penis + a human brain :D

^^^ :D:eek: I shall be sure to tell everyone I know! :D

Still 180lbs this morning. Pffft.

Thought it might shift after yesterday's little expedition. We went up to London for an Olympic football match at Wembley and I ended up only eating about 1000 cals and 22g carbs all day, but at the same time I did get very dehydrated so I'm probably retaining water today.

It was quite an amazing experience I have to say. I've never been to a stadium before and sat in a crowd of 77,000 people so I had no idea of the awesome energy that such a mass gathering generates. The tsunami of noise that accompanies every attack on goal was something I hadn't anticipated at all: I mean, you see and hear it on tv, but it's nothing like actually sitting in the middle of it. I can only imagine what it's like for a Cup final - you'd probably be deaf for days

Almond bread for breakfast today, chicken curry for dinner, and bits and bobs in between. Not sure what it'll come to cals/carbs-wise - I'll make adjustments as I go along, like usual.

Still 180lbs. Hmpfff.

A watched pot never boils, does it? I need to stop this daily weighing lark trying to catch the moment I've hit the 170's 'cos it'll start peeing me off if I'm not careful. Just keep doing what you're doing, Scrumbles, and let the scales take care of themselves... (yeah, right!;))

Ate about 1600 cals and 24g carbs yesterday - I was feeling really hungry, so I went with it. I think today will be a fair bit less as my stomach feels a bit iffy - not sure why as I haven't eaten anything unusual .

I've given myself credit for a couple of miles of walking on Wednesday (it was at least that, albeit not in one go), but that's all so far for August. Really should crack on with it, but my motivation seems to have waned at the moment. :/ Need to get my head back in the game...

I know what you mean scrambles ....it's a nightmare and so tempting to jump on the scales every day.....but it can be a vicious circle....I try and just weigh just once a week....otherwise it drives me insane try hiding your scales somewhere a bit unreachable lol....I did take the battery's out of mine madeit harder to weigh everyday sounds like you had a totally fab day at the Olympics x

Hi Scrummie... I've not weighed for nearly 2 weeks! I thought at first it felt liberating, but, what I notice - FOR ME - it feels like I'm not focused or connected to being on a diet/woe. x

If I'm weighing every day it's usually for a purpose, like when I was on my diet break and during JUDDD; I was wanting to know the daily fluctuations out of pure interest. At the moment it's because I'm right on the edge of a mini-milestone (getting into the 170's), but I will concede that, for me, it's getting a tad obsessive.

However, it's about to be useful again because I've decided it's time for another diet break, and I like to know what's going on during those.

It may seem a bit odd that I'm breaking the diet now when I've been losing pretty well (for me!), but I think I need it. I hadn't realised that my previous one was back in May (I don't count my JUDDDing as a break - too awful by half ), so I'm due for one about now, and also I just feel...not bored exactly, but perhaps a little jaded. I need a bit of freedom to indulge - within my rules, naturally(!)

I'm not allowing myself as many calories this time since I'm now over a stone lighter than I was the last time I did it, so my intention is to stay between 1800-1900 cals and 90-100g carbs for the next two weeks. Sugar will be strictly limited and I won't be eating wheat/corn. I will be allowing myself potatoes again, and this time, rice and oats.

I'll be logging everything I eat/drink in FitDay as usual, but I won't be recording it here for obvious reasons

So here goes. Two weeks of semi-freedom, here I come...:D

ETA: How rude! Didn't say hello to Angie  Thanks for stopping by! Good advice about hiding the scales but unfortunately OH uses them for his work so I'd be in a bit of trouble if I did that, lol :p:D

I'm far too chicken to weigh every day when I'm eating too much... Head in the sand is all I can manage when that's going on ! Lol

Good luck with the break ! I wasn't expecting you to do it while you've been doing so well ! But I completely get the feeling jaded bit ... Hope it gives you the boost and re-invigoration you need !!! I SO aspire to your clarity, focus, sheer determination and success !!!

Well done Scrummie !! Xxx

No he wouldn't be a happy bunny lol....just out of curiosity why are u going on a diet break ? Does it help or do u put on a few lbs ? I'm interested early days for me only on day 9 so not something I would do yet.

Hang about...you're the one who's lost over a hundred pounds - I have a loooooong way to go to match your success, and I'm not letting you forget it! :D

I think I'm just too curious about the process not to weigh, tbh. And what's the worst that can happen? I put on a few pounds? I know they'll go soon enough when I'm back on low carb, so it's no big deal in the long run.

(Btw, I don't know about a boost and re-invigoration, but what it appears to have given me this evening is massive indigestion and wind  - not quite the immediate effect I was after, it has to be said!;))

I'm a big believer in diet breaks - hey, I get to post my favourite link again :D The Full Diet Break | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald

Long story short, my weight loss stalled back in April even though I was 100% on plan, so I did a two week diet break and broke the stall immediately. It's no reflection on Atkins because I think it's a great diet and I'd already lost quite a bit of weight on it, but I think my body had just got too used to what I was doing and it needed a good old shake-up! And as a side benefit, I found it very refreshing mentally to loosen the reins for a couple of weeks, which is really why I'm doing it this time. I'm not stalled, I just feel I could use a break from being so strict with my carbs and my overall food intake. That's the problem with having so much to lose over so long a period I guess - trying to be 100% on plan for months on end gets exhausting!

I probably will gain weight - last time I'd gained a pound by the end of it - but it will come off again the moment I go back to Atkins, so I'm not at all bothered by it.

As you say, it's way too early for you to consider a break, and you may never feel the need, but it's one of several options to think about if you happen to stall. :)

Morning Scrummie!!!

I'm considering a diet break in two weeks time when I go on holiday....

This week I haven't eaten at all well due to an awful dose of pharyngitis but I haven't gone off the rails either and I'm still a 1lb within my goal range even after a carvery with potato and a meal from that well known place that has two golden arches!!

I thought I'd gain massively but I haven't...!! But I don't want to slip into the "oh this means I can eat what I like mindset!"

Sooooo, just read the above link and I do think it makes sense...!

What sorts of things do you incorporate during a break and do you still find yourself asking yourself if you really want/need to eat this or are just eating for the sake of it?

I'm going to turkey so i'm thinking fruit, yogurt and a little rice/potato with my evening meals whilst sticking with low carb meals during the day...?

What can you recommend?

Thank you :) xx
