Simon (Bolero's) Food Diary

Morning all. No work again today, so I've only just got out of bed. Had breakfast today (the party puffs have returned :p), so that's a bonus.
I'll be cooking again later. I got a copy of the Simply Enjoy cookbook free for joining WW Online, so I'll be trying out a recipe from there for lunch - spaghetti amatricana, on p.60. I'll be modifying it, though, as the recipe calls for vegetarian bacon (Quorn I expect), but real bacon is cheaper. :p I'll put my points breakdown up later once I've seen what the modified recipe comes out to.

Morning :0) enjoy your day off work and cooking later.Look forward to hearing how the meal turns out..maybe another pic?! I do like food pics!

I'll see what I can do with taking a pic. :) I'm quite pleased with the adaption pointswise, as it's only coming out as 3pp more than in the book. 10pp is very good for a lunch I think, especially when it's a pasta dish. Largely making it as I wanted to use up the passata I had left from yesterday, and this was the first recipe I came accross in the book that uses it. lol.

Breakfast
Party Puffs with Skimmed Milk - 4pp

Lunch
Spaghetti Amatriciana (adapted from recipe on p.60 of Simply Enjoy) - 10pp
- Bacon (2 rashers) - 3pp
- Onion - 0pp
- Garlic - 0pp
- Passata - 0pp
- Tomato Ketchup - 1pp
- Frozen Peas (30g) - 1pp
- Wholewheat Spaghetti (60g) - 5pp
- Chilli - 0pp

Warburton's Square Wrap - 4pp

Snacks Etc.

Daily Points Used:

Thanks about the pic and good idea to use up the passata.I do like the sound of the ingredients,I could change the bacon for bacon medallions and have it for free on simply filling :0)

Aye, that's probably what I'd do normally...but I wanted to use up the bacon that was in the fridge too. :p Being thrifty today. lol.
It does sound a tasty recipe (the chilli is down as optional, so doesn't have to be spicy). The ketchup seems an odd ingredient to me, though. Never would have considered adding that to a pasta sauce normally.

Makes sense to use up what you have,I often do that and have random dinners but they do work!
I tend not to add ketchup as my OH doesn't like it though I don't know how much flavour you'd get from it anyhow.Im still learning cooking wise though I do enjoy it!

Yep - ketchup or tomato puree added to a tomato sauce helps to give it a hint of sweetness and take away a bit of the acidity you get sometimes from tomato sauces - especially with tinned tomatoes. Or, if the tomato sauce is a bit 'flat' a couple of squirts of lemon juice or vinegar will often give it a lift. I sometimes put a squirt of tom ketchup or puree in gravy too - helps to make it a bit richer - try it one day! Here endeth the cookery lesson!

Oh, and there is no such thing as an 'optional' chilli. LOL.

Well, that was a nice meal. I overdid the sauce & chilli a bit, but it was lovely. Pic as promised. :)

It does look really yummy and thank you for the picture :0)

I tried another diet, and have fallen off the wagon more than a little bit over the bank holiday (partly due to it being bank holiday, and partly due to a little stress & drama in my life...issues with certain people who shall remain nameless, but those long-term followers will know who I mean! :p). My plan is to have a think, shake myself up, and get well and truly back on top of everything come Thursday.

Oh no,sorry to hear things haven't been too good for you and that the other diet didn't work,I think most people had blips over the bank hol weekend regardless of home life! Good to hear that you will be back though :0)

I'm pretty annoyed with myself over it all, to be completely honest, as I was within half a pound of being "into the 18s" as of weigh in last week...and was so hopeful to get that half a pound off for this week. Well, that's gone by the wayside for this week...and it frustrates me, as this is the point I get too every time I diet and then give up. I really need to shake myself up and get a proverbial kick up the behind. :p

We'll give you the kick up the behind if you insist! :asskick: I reckon though that we can give more useful support than that as well! As Daisy said, lots of us have been there and know that feeling. You can make this the last diet where you get to that same point and give up. It might not be the last time you feel that frustration, but that's OK, 'cos if you didn't feel the frustration then it would mean you didn't care any more. There are always those two basic choices - carry on, or give up. If you give up, you know from past experience what will happen. If you carry on... well you're a week or two later getting there than you'd hoped for, but you're still getting there. My vote goes for you carrying on!

Thanks all. :) I'll definately be carrying on...I'm just in two minds about what diet is the best one for me. This very second I thinking of WW, but mentally I've been changing my mind all morning between this or giving JUDDD a proper chance or going back to the Spike Diet again. Can see the downfalls and merits of all options. Probably just need to talk it over, really.
