Simon (Bolero's) Food Diary

Thanks. :) I'm a bit nervous about making it, to be honest. My last cake attempt was at a carrot cake, and that was a bit puddingy to say the least. Do love fruit cake myself, so will be nice if it works out well. :)

Aye, I do tend to make massive pizzas...and 17pp of that is the flour alone. It's very much a treat thing for me, and something that only gets made when I'm not in work all day. :) I do say it a lot, but it's so worth making your own though. Even just the smell of the dough cooking is divine. Can't beat the smell of freshly cooked bread!

I agree! Bread is one of my favourite things ever! Unfortunately, I could eat it until I explode, lol :p Will have to come round your house for pizza sometime ;) Mmm, carrot cake! Well, I commend you on not just buying a packet mix and passing it off as your own because you spread some shop bought icing over it yourself as I've seen way too much of recently, haha!

Hope you've had a great day Simon!

Home-made is so much better, and I'm determined to get cake right...and apart from anything else, I do enjoy the cooking experience. :) Going to buy the icing mind you as I prefer a fondant icing to mucking about with icing sugar, but the cake (which is currently stinking up the kitchen with it's brandy smell) is going to be entirely my own. Might have another go at carrot cake, as it is a favourite. Might try a difference recipe, see if that helps.

Had a chippy last night. Partly as I fancied fish, and partly as I was shattered by the time I got home from work. :p Hopefully I've pointed it right. Never all that certain when it comes to the fish, to be honest, and as I shared it with mum (the portions they do are massive...can't believe anyone could eat it all!!) it was a bit confusing. But yes, yesterday's diary:

Not really any idea about today's points yet. Taken a sea bream out of the freezer for tea though, so probably have that baked in the oven with a portion of couscous. Mr. Breamy is still frozen though, so I'll work him out when he's not icy. lol.

Thanks. :) I'll have to give them a go at some point...perhaps during the week. I'm off work now for 10-days, so will fill my time nicely...especially now I'm not going to London. Cancelled it, as I wasn't going to be able to pay for a trip there and a trip to Aberystwyth next weekend...so London was the one I decided can wait until I'm on leave again in February. :p

Dinner is currently marinading (I've shoved the sea bream in a little soy sauce, with some grated ginger and garlic), and smells divine!

The bream sounds lovely. Haven't had bream for ages.

Morning all. Cake Day today...or will be later. Forgot to buy lemons & oranges (from which we need the grated peel), so have to wait until the shops open at 10 to go on a little trip. I'm out of earl grey too, so I have to go shopping anyway...no tea bags equals a seriously major crisis!!! lol. Ah well. Fingers crossed that all goes well.

The bream was very tasty. One of my favourite fish, and so delicious just done in the oven in a little silver foil. So tasty, and worked so well with the lemony couscous. Only got the breams as they were two fish for a fiver in I think it was ASDA a few weeks ago, and was well worth getting. Shall have to eat fish done like that more often!

Having a proper cooked dinner today (well steak anyway, as it's easier that dealing with a joint on a baking day), so looking forward to that. Diary will follow once I've sorted my points out, as besides the 4pp for my steak I've no idea what I'm using. lol

Morning all. First day of leave, and I'm already pissed off (long story, basically involving overtime...which I've refused to do). I'll be so glad to go away this weekend, as I need a de-stress weekend after things lately. I'm also a bit disappointed, as they've stopped making the WW spring onion mash that I've been having. Really was enjoying that mash, and it's so disappointing that they still do the carrot & swede mash (which tastes vile) but now this is the second mashed potato product they've stopped making since I started with WW a few years ago. It's a bit annoying that they don't seem to want to cater for people who may not like swede, but want a quick and easy (and cheap) side dish that they can pull out of the freezer after working until 7. Don't know about anyone else, but at that time of day I am not in the mood for cooking anything that requires any thought!

But anyway, my rant over. Having liver today, and trying out the Aunt Bessie's mash instead.

I find the aunt bessie's mash is okay :) nothing like homemade but good for an easy fix! It is quite irritating, fortunately I love swede so don't really have the same issue.

I hope you manage to get some time to chill during your time off and to relax - enjoy your weekend away, you really do deserve a break!

Tesco do a 'light choices' mash which I'd recommend though ^^

I expect the Aunt Bessie's mash is nice (usually like the Aunt Bessie's products), but have noticed it's more points than the WW one used to be (6pp for a 220g portion instead of 4pp)...but that's not a major problem. Love the Light Choices one though, but tend not to get it often as I've only noticed a chiller one. Do they do a frozen one at all?

Thanks. :) Very much looking forward to the weekend. Fortunately I weigh in on Thursday before I go (leaving Friday morning), and am trying my very best to fight this voice in my head that's telling me it'll be ok to cheat a little bit now as well as on the weekend...but I'm determined to have a loss on Thursday, so hopefully that battle will be won. :) I know this weekend will be one very heavy in points, as it's going to be a weekend of drinking and takeaways. Ah well, only live twice. :p

Aye. I'm quite fond of the Go Ahead stuff (especially the fruit bakes, which I can't get enough of!), so was like a kid in a proverbial sweet shop with that offer. lol

Have never tried the BGTY or Light Choices chips, but do find the WW chips to be lovely. Shall have to check them out when I'm next shopping. :) Thinking of having faggots, peas and chips for tomorrow's tea for a change. Think faggots are about 3pp for 100g, so that's quite reasonable. :)

The sausage sandwich was delightful, and sooooo worth it! Lovely with a blob of brown sauce. Mmmm....delicious.

Had a sneaky at the scales this morning, and they're showing that 3/4 lb I put on last week as being off...if I can maintain that for Thursday, I'll be thrilled. :)

Lunch was a bit odd today, in that I opened a jar of cockles in vinegar that had been in the fridge since the dawn of time. Didn't know what I wanted to have with them, so chuck them in a tin of beans in the end and had them with eggs and a chunk of break. Very nice, if a little strange. :p

Eggs (2 eggs scrambled) - 4pp

Made toad in the hole for dinner, and followed a WW recipe from the cookbook. It was supposed to be a mushroom toad in the hole with Quorn sausages, but the consensus between me and dad is that it was like eating glue! I think it was due to a combination of the mushrooms and the fact that the batter as the recipe called for was much too thin, in my opinion, so didn't come out right at all. Not making that again!

Lunch
toasted ham & cheese sandwiches (4 bits of bread, 2 slices of ham & 60g of BGTY red cheese) - 17pp

Dinner
Toad in the Hole with Onion Gravy (2 portions) - 19pp
Cabbage - 0pp

Snacks Etc.

Morning. :) Well not long got off my scales, and must say I'm very pleased...it's a 1 and a quarter pound loss this week, and I couldn't be more pleased if I tried. :) That's putting me within 2-pounds of my 10% mark, so hopefully I can get there by the end of the month. :)

Next week I'm expecting a gain, as I've now got 4-days off from dieting seeing as I'm away from tomorrow until Sunday night. I'm going to try to be sensible and not eat everything around me, but I know it's going to be a lot of takeaway and drinking...but I'm ok with that. I've earned it, I think, and a few days aren't going to define the rest of this diet! As we were all once told in meeting about it bank holiday...it's not what you do with that one day that matters, it's what you do with the 364 days of the year after that. :) Food aside, I'm quite looking forward to it. This will be my first holiday since I was in uni, and I'm hoping will involve a visit to the national library of Wales seeing as that's in Aberystwyth...can't keep the researcher in me down!! lol.
