Simon (Bolero's) Food Diary

A haslet roll (in this case at least) was a white co-op roll that was lying about the kitchen with a slice of haslet (sort of a porky meatloaf, I suppose, for those who may not have partaken of it) in the middle. With a little WW sandwich spread and ketchup. Was very tasty! :)

Thanks. :) I'll probably decide on Sunday if I'm doing skin or not, although if it turns out as greasy as it looks from looking at the raw bird I'll probably do it without...nothing worse than greasy skin. Quite excited really. Not very often I get to try something new. Last time it was partridge (minus the pear tree, and certainly no lords a leaping...makes it hard to cook having insane earls farting about in the kitchen! lol), which was nice.

Yesterday's Diary

Thanks. :) I'm feeling a little better today, and hoping for a nice evening. My dad has decided he wants to have my mum's birthday meal tonight for some reason, which is odd as it's not her birthday until a week Tuesday...but this does work out as handy for me, as it allows me to save next week's weeklies for my trip to London - which makes life so much easier for that day! Got myself a lovely WW meal tonight, and am sharing a veggie biryani with my dad...so it shouldn't be too bad on points. :)

Aye, she's good at being a right cow. :p In the end I didn't have the sandwich, of course, had some crisps and prosciutto instead. I seem to have developed a bit of an addiction to prosciutto lately. :p
Feeling a bit meh this morning...I think I'm coming down with a bit of a cold, which does suck. Hopefully it goes during the next week, as I don't want my week off to be a sicky.

Thanks. :) I'm mainly just sneezing a lot & stuff at present, so hopefully it won't get any worse. x

Had the guinea fowl, which was quite nice. A bit like chicken, but with my more flavour (and much fattier, I might add). Very tasty, but not something I'd buy again for the full price. I got this one reduced, and it was fine at half price...but really for what we got, we may as well have just had chicken. :p Next meat I want to try is reindeer. lol.

Morning. Feeling a bit better today, even if it is Monday...BOO! On a mission again to empty the freezer, ready for my last cooking blitz of the year...which I'm hoping to do next week sometime, before my weekend away. Seeing as I've got several portions of the ratatouille pasta bake (which is very nice) that I made last time left, I better have eat that with various different things. lol.

Venison is quite nice, in my opinion, if a bit rich. Made a pie of it a few Christmases back...sort of like a steak and kidney pie, just with venison instead of beef. It was very very nice, although I was a bit ill afterwards. Although that may have more to do with the two bottles of wine that I drunk at dinner...

Always been a bit fond of trying new meats, and reindeer is one of the few left on my list...although I do imagine it's basically the same as normal deer venison. For anyone adventurous, I can recommend both pigeon and kangaroo. :p

I've never tried crocodile (it's on the list. lol). Must admit I was put off by the description an Aussie friend of mine gave it, by describing it as like fishy chicken...which does make it sound somewhat unappetising. Try anything once though, with the exception of tripe...got to draw the line somewhere. lol. I found ostrich to be fantastic, though. Such a tasty meat. Kangaroo is quite similar in taste, and so lean. I'd expect it's quite reasonable in pro points, thinking of it, given it's quite unfatty.

They're a classic...if a little odd eating cold baked beans. :p Bit disappointed with the scales this morning, as I've seen a three quarters of a pound gain. I'll have that back off soon enough, but I'm just a bit confused by the gain as I really can't explain why. My only thought is that perhaps having had a bit more bread than usual might have made an impact. Ah well. New week.

Well, dinner was nice...had a lovely pizza (can't go wrong with pizza!), and now I'm relaxing listening to music and waiting for Red Dwarf X to come on. :p All go in the Bolero house tonight. lolol.

In a more productive note, though, I've made a start on the Christmas cake (which will be an experience, as I've never had much luck with baking cakes!) by shoving the fruit on to soak in the booze. Trying out Mary Berry's patented recipe this year, which is a bit different than what I'm used to with Xmas cake in that it's go apricots in it. Sounds interesting, but frustrating that it'll be 7-weeks to find out the verdict on if it's nice. lol. The bake will be on Sunday, so wish me luck. lol.
