Starting exercice...

Hi all,

I just wanted to gather people's thoughts on exercising whilst on step one of Cambridge.

The past few days a have been doing SS+ so thought that I should start doing some light - moderate exercise. Today I have done 16 mins on my exercise bike followed by 2 sets of 30 squats and 2 sets of 30 sit-ups.

My CDC warns against exercise whilst on SS as she said your body could start burning muscle rather than fat. I am just starting week 6 and to be honest I am getting fed up with not exercising at all. I know there are quite a few people who do exercise on step one so I wanted to know if anyone has seen exercise detriment their weight loss?

I am worried that I am going to go a bit saggy if I don't do anything! I would like a nice perky bum and get rid of the post pregnancy over hang to go with my slimmer figure!

Thanks :) xx

Starting Weight: 11st 7lb. Week 1 WI: -7lb (11st). Week 2 WI: -3lb (10st 11lb). Week 3 WI: -5lb (10st 6lb). Week 4 WI: -3lb (10st3lb)

My CDC is adamant that I should not exercise on Step 1

Circa 500 calories is a tiny amount of fuel and as yours says, your body will look to use readily available quick release energy from muscle.

This is coming from someone who was doing 40-50km a week running until my injury so it's very difficult for me not to, but I'm sticking to all the rules 100% :)

I run about 4.5 miles sometimes once a week sometimes three times a week. Although i feel better for doing it i always lose less the weeks i run more. However ive been on the diet since jan and have lost 104lbs so it still works!! You have to listen to your body and do what right for you x

Thank you both for your reply's.

The thing is I really want to be creating good habits for when I go in to maintenance which is likely to be 2 months away, putting in half an hour of exercise a day is just about getting me in the exercise frame of mind (without exhausting me) as well as the eating healthy frame of mind!

Since having my daughter obviously my body shape changed quite dramatically so I am trying to focus on the key areas and use my exercise as a way of maintaining fitness levels and toning rather than weight loss. I haven't felt overly tired out from it and as I am now having a SS+ meal in the evening I am hoping it should balance itself out... Fingers crossed!

I was going to suggest moving up a step to SS+ but you've already done that. :) Even though, like shrinkydink says, weight loss might seem a little slower with exercise, I'm sure the "fat loss" is just as good on both programs, only with the exercise thrown in you'll be replacing your fat with muscle so the read on the scales won't accurately reflect your week's achievement!

Hiya, ive been doing interval running and normal running as weights make me feel hungry.and most people do with them. Try light jogging or running and see how u feel. im sticking with this as running does noy give you an appetite as with other excercises. Enjoy

I go to the gym daily but I'm careful to keep my burn at 500 or below. I'd be demented if I couldn't exercise!!

My counsellor this week actually recommended pilates and yoga, specifically for toning and to prevent sagging skin, so you could give those a try?
