Surfhunny's Countdown to Florida

Morning all!! First off I have a question... How much water flavouring are we allowed per day? I've been having 2 tsps made up in 2 litres of water. I should be in ketosis by now and I'm not :( I was hungry last night and woke up hungry this morning :( I'm wondering if this has much to do with it? I've not really used water flavouring much in the past, but I'm struggling with boring plain water atm.

It might have something to do with it. Ketosis is a fickle thing. Some people are actually really sensitive to artificial sweeteners - their bodies react to them as though they were actually sugar so insulin is produced to deal with it - which means you'll get hungry. That's why some people can't get away with diet drinks even if they don't have citric acid in them :(

I know it's as boring as hell, but you might be better off sticking to plain water (and black tea and coffee) for a few days, just until you're safely in ketosis, and then you'll probably be okay to have the water flavouring and the occasional Coke Zero etc.

Boll@cks i think I've just been got by a speed camera :( it depends where it got me but I was only just over 30mph. Hopefully I was caught under 33mph. My own stupid fault :( and now I've had to park miles away at work too, driven round for ten mins trying to find a space. Great start to the freaking day :(

oh no surf. those speed cameras are excessive. :(

i'm back on track too now. had 2 shakes so far today. well i say shakes..... choc mint shake then a choc mint bar.

i wonder why i can go for ages then as soon as i 'eat' i'm starving and think about food.

how's your leg today after your work?

@Nikki,

I am like that. Also I find that some of the shakes make me more hungry than others.

@Sal - Bummer of a way to start the week. I hope there was no film in the camera.

I'd love to be able to say that the day picked up after the speeding and parking but it didn't, work was okay until the last hour when my leg started cramping :( it's still cramping now. But I'm working in a slightly different area tomorrow so there'll be more chance to sit down if I need to. My bum didn't touch a seat until I got into the car to come home today. Tomorrow I'll be allowed a morning break and a lunch hour! :)

Diet wise all good, used one of the more accurate pee stix at work at 5pm and it was just a hint of pink. (oh I lied, I did get a sit down after all lol). Anyway I've brought one home, shhh don't tell anyone, just to check in the morning for more accuracy!

My mum started the GL diet yesterday and is loving it!! She said she hasn't felt hungry at all and feels like she's got more energy. So that's good. I definitely think I'll look to that to maintain on!

I haven't felt hungry today, not even at meal times, so I think I'm definitely in the pink.

Here's to a PINK and Better day tomorrow!

you should have sat down if your leg was cramping. they (work) need to realise that. you don't want to damage the good work and get set back and be off for weeks again.

I know, but the trouble is A&E was so so busy I felt guilty going and sitting down. If it was managers my lack of work would affect I'd have sat down immediately, but it's my colleagues who have to pick up the slack. And until 5pm I was doing my minor ops so there's no way I could've sat down. My job is way too physical and I'm beginning to wonder if I came back too soon?

I'm working with a different LM tomorrow, she's been great about all this, even texted to see if I was getting on okay when I was off, but not in a 'checking up on me' kind of way, but out of genuine concern. She'll be okay about resting.

Sal,

But if you don't sit down when you need to -- then you'll be a patient yourself.

This is prob a bit TMI but I've just done a ketosis experiment. I used the pee stick from work and got a pretty pink colour in the same pee I also used a ketostix and got nothing but beige!!! I always knew ketostix were inaccurate but that just proves it!!!

I'm off to bed now, I'm shattered and my leg is throbbing a bit. I might take some codeine.... Night all x

Or could it be that the NHS buys inferior sticks that give false positives? Hummm.

I know :( I'll have to be firm, I'm such a walk over!! It's because I hate confrontation which stems from being fat for so long I'm sure. :( I need to toughen up!!

Nope I trust the NHS ones, they're made by Siemens, and I've used them in the past reliably lol. They have to be sensitive because they're a multi test and test for protein, glucose etc. My CDC even said the ketostix ones are unreliable. Anyway so long as one says I'm in the pink that's all I care about. ;)

Siemens -- They're German... then they are sure to be precise. If there is one thing I learned living in Germany for seven years is that they make things well (and the trains run on time), and Lebkuchen is delicious... oh. maybe I learned more than one thing. hee hee

Night Sal (and I think you are right. We -- fat or formerly fat -- have very poor self-esteem and therefore tend to be total doormats)

I'm not sure, I suspect not :( although if you want to try asking at the pharmacy the ones we use at work are called Multistix, they're in a very similar box to the Ketostix and look like they're made by the same people but they're not. I don't know if they can be bought over the counter or how much they'd cost.

It's a pity that the ketostix aren't accurate but I guess they're not meant to be used for the purpose us dieters use them for. Mind I'd hate to think I was diabetic and relying on their accuracy!

Maybe the hospital one are more sensitive. Kind of like a normal pregnancy test, then a clear blue that can pick up the faintest trace. Maybe the ketostix are accurate but just need a more conclusive (stronger) reading?

Hmm maybe I'll try again tomorrow with my first wee of the day lol, if it doesn't show pink then I don't think it ever will lol.
