The diary of a (not so-Little)Sausage

Yay Lil Sausage. Well done on your loss. I have multiquoted (because I can :p !) the quotes below which I think are all so true. You have a lot of very sensible, wise people posting on this thread :)

Also, when it comes off a little slower like this, it is more likely to stay off. And because you're not deprived you stick at it.

You seem to have got your head totally round SW and are moving in the right direction - and not as slowly as you think.

Anyway - well done on your loss so far and don't be too disappointed with WI tonight - definitely better to go slow and keep it it off. Thanks for the inspiration for me to be a bit more adventurous on the food front

Well done LS on the 1.5 lbs! I think you are doing so well, I can understand you wanting more, but look how far you've come. You are so well organised, you'll get exactly where you want to be! Besides, you are an inspiration to me!

try and look at the bigger picture! It's not all about one week, and in these situations, I find that the hard work sometimes gets a delayed response! I often see a good loss the following week instead!! Just keep going as you are- the weight is dropping off you!! I know it's a very personal thing, but 1.5 is still a great loss!! XXXXXXXX

I'm just so grateful for SW and the control I now have. I choose not to have the things I once thought nothing of. Of course there will be moments of hedonism where I drown myself in chocolate, but I do think very carefully about everything that I eat now. And I love it!

I love this quote. This is so me as well but that feeling of knowing you are doing something about your weight is amazing. Live the dream :)

You are doing brilliantly. You might not feel like it yet but you are already a role model for people trying to get started. I loved the NSV - that is just the beginning for you. I can't wait to hear about the rest.

In terms of whether people will notice, there will be some who will notice now (particularly family who know you well) however don't be too surprised if some others take a little longer. It won't be long but don't feel too bad if they don't notice just yet. For me, my family noticed after just under a stone (which happened quite quickly for me). Then a few people at work noticed at about 2 stone (but lots didn't even when I hadn't seen them for a while) and then from about 3-3.5 stone loads noticed and now I'm almost surprised when I see people I haven't seen for a while if they don't comment. It's (mostly) a really nice feeling.

However this is the time that you will really start to feel the difference in your clothes. I'd be surprised if you haven't already dropped a dress size. Try to start (gradually) wearing stuff that is a bit more fitted (if you don't already) which may take a bit of getting used to but it generally is a bit more flattering.

I'm so pleased for you. Can't wait to hear more stories.

Gail x

Well done on your loss. Sausage.

I love being able to pop in here when I have a spare 5 minutes and see my girlies doing so well.

Zxx

Gail - such wise words!
I was much the same as you. I couldn't even notice the difference at 1 st (still in my size 22's but at least they weren't tight any more). But with 2 st gone I could - my size 20's fitted me again! Now at approaching 3 stone gone my size 18's are getting too big. But as I chucked out all my size 16's and 14's over 10 years ago they'll have to do for now. Anyway, summer is approaching here in Spain and I'll just live in a swimsuit and sarong - who needs clothes when it's 40c in the shade!

Friends really only started noticing at the 2½ st mark when suddenly my cheekbones re-appeared! I haven't seen them in 10 years either!

Keep it up LS, you are doing brilliantly! Maybe 2 st next week?

Hi Sausage!

Firstly just wanted to say sorry that I didn't comment earlier. Your diary is so popular that I feel if I haven't been on for a while I miss out on all the action!!!!!

Firstly WELL DONE on your loss Sausage! I think 1.5lb is great. Sorry that you were a bit on the disappointed side but I think that you have done really well, especially as this week you've been having a bit of an experiment with the syns and things. Your hard work may show up next week.

Another thing is that you've really enjoyed your food this week so being able to lose while doing that is great.

I think you're such an inspiration because as some people have said you have got your head round SW so quickly, you're like an old hand at it all now, and you come up with such yummy food ideas!!

So, my colleague is away on vacation this week, and the 2 weeks after that he's in the Nashville office, which means that I am ON MY OWN(!) in the office until April 25. Crazy! Lots to be getting on with, although I will definitely have some quiet time.

Plus, I'm off on Thursday and Friday this week, as I'm heading up with brother number one to visit brother number 2 in Sheffield for a couple of nights. Haven't seen him since Christmas, so it should be lovely! He knows that I've joined Slimming World, and is super impressed with my loss so far. I wonder if he'll be able to see a difference? Will be thinking carefully about what food to take up, so that I can stick to plan. I'll be stopping along the way (the drive is about 6 hours door to door) so I'd really like to have some energy-boosting, SW friendly snacks so that I'm not tempted by Burger King or KFC at the grotty services! I'll be doing the cooking over the couple of days I'm there, so proper meals will be ok. I am so excited to see my little brother :)

xx

Sounds like you will have a great time ruling the roost at work!

Also lovely that you're going to spend some quality time with the wee bro! Where abouts in Sheffvegas does he live? I am originally from Sheffield and as much as I like to slag the place off, I am also very fond of the place secretly. It is looking really nice these days - a lot of work has gone into making the city centre look a lot less... well, grim! It's almost a bit posh in places now! Do you know where you're going to be going?

Today I did a "How Northern are you?" quiz on FB and I got Sean Bean! YES!

I also have a fantastic Spanish recipe for Huevos al la Flamenca that is med veg and eggs that's great for a lunch - I'll look the recipe up and post it either here or on my page if you like?

Thanks for your recipes Pommette, I love the sound of the Salmon and the Huevos a la Flamenca, will have a look at doing that recipe soon. Is that a tapas dish?

Aww, shucks, guys. Thanks for all the kind messages! I am pleased with a loss, and it's probably quite ungrateful of me to feel despondent. But when some people have such incredible losses week on week, the green-eyed monster screams, "what about me!?"

Not quite at the 2 stone mark... Still a few to go! It does, however, bring me that much closer to it. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have it. It really is amazing, when you've been overweight and out of control for your whole life to suddenly grab it back. Club 10, here I come!

Thanks for stopping by, Pommette! Glad you've enjoyed reading. I enjoy writing here - it's a fantastic outlet, and so treat to have the support of awesome people in the same boat. Glad you like the recipes! There will be more to come. I'm surprised you're struggling over there with all the amazing fruit and veg available! What is it you can't get that you wish you could?

And I'd love your salmon florentine recipe!

You said it, Laura! Yay! Slowly, but ever so surely!

Melissa, you are so in control of your food... I doubt you'll have any problem sticking to it! You may have a problem when it comes to maintaining, as you'll probably have to focus really hard on not losing!

No major difference in my clothes, although the trousers I wore today nearly fell down when I ran(!) for the train. I can definitely pull the waistband out at least an inch and a half, and they're non-elasticated, so that has to count as a NSV. Also, it seems that a lot of my other clothes look a bit bigger on me. I'm not going to rush off to buy new clothes yet though!

Thank you all for such kind words xx

Woop what a great / potentially embarrassing NSV! That's a really great sign for you and must be motivating! I agree that losing the weight slowly must help you keep it off. I know some people say it makes no difference how slowly or quickly you lose it but I disagree, I think if you lose slower, you've had more time to get used to the plan. Once you hit target you're then so used to the plan its become like a way of life. There's no way I'd dream of going back to my old habits now, whereas if I'd lost my weight in, say, a month, maybe I would have.

Gail - such wise words!

I think you're right, no one noticed anything about my weight loss, even when I hit Club 10 I only really got comments from people who knew I was doing SW. Now I am getting them all the time, especially from people at work who don't necessarily know I am on a diet. Someone told me I needed to get a new pair of trousers yesterday! Another person said I was "wasting away" and that when I turn sideways I "disappear"... Hmm.... In fact as you can see not all comments are always that nice but you still take them as a compliment!!!!

Hi hun, I'm sorry to hear you're a little disappointed with tonight's loss, as you feel you deserved more! I know it's a cliche, however try and look at the bigger picture! Thanks, Hevs :) I was a bit disappointed but now I realise that it wasn't at all bad, and that it's still in the right direction! Fingers crossed next week will be ACE!

I agree with you! There are loads of wise people posting here, and I'm so grateful. It really does make this easier - because, as much as I love SW, the EASY option would be to revert back to old habits. It's awesome to come on here and have everyone there, keeping you on the right course!

Well done on your loss. Sausage.

I love being able to pop in here when I have a spare 5 minutes and see my girlies doing so well.

Thanks, Zoe! Hope you're ok... you've been quiet the last couple of days! x

Thanks, Jules! You're right, I did definitely enjoy my food, and eating out this week... and the fact that I can do that and still lose weight is excellent! As for the NSV - yes, that could have been super embarassing. It's funny, isn't it, how some people show their weight loss a lot more than others at earlier stages. I'm pushing that 2 stone barrier, yet the difference, for me, is minimal. And I haven't had any "ooh, you've definitely lost weight" comments. But, I know that this is a looong road (longer, in fact, than Cemetery Road in Sheff, which is a very long road) and that it's going to take me a while to get anywhere close to where I want to be. Hopefully, by that time, I will be so trained in food optimising that the weight will stay off.

As for Sheffvegas, my brother lives in between the SUFC stadium and the General cemetery. Having only been up there to drop him off, I've never had a proper look around! I have no idea what there is to do. I know the Botanical Gardens are meant to be lovely, and on the Visit Sheffield website there's a picture of, what looks like, some Abbey ruins, although it's not listed in the heritage attractions, which is a shame. I'd also love to see Chatsworth House and maybe Conisborough castle. Then there's all the central Sheff stuff - I really want to have a look in the retro/antiquey shops and Castle Market, too! A lot to fit in! xx

Ooh yes sounds like you have some great plans. The Botanical Gardens is a must. If you start at the top of the gardens, it's a nice leisurely downhill walk. You could go to Broomhill (near the top entrance of Bot Gardens) first which has a great Oxfam for amazing antique stuff. Then at the bottom of the Botanical Gardens is Ecclesall Road which has some good charity shops where I've picked up some great retro bargains. But the best antiquey/ retro shops I think are on Sharrowvale road which is behind Ecclesall Road -easily walkable, so you could do all that in a morning or afternoon I reckon. There are lovely cafes and places for lunch around there too. Endcliffe Park is nice too.

I LOVE Chatsworth- especially the gardens- well worth a visit and while you're there I would hit Bakewell too! Very nice wee town with good pubs. Never been to Connisbrough Castle but always see it on the train to my bf's parents' in Donny and it looks nice. Also Paddly Gorge is great for picnics and walking!!

Ooh exciting! Hope you have a great time! Xxxx

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it, although the drive is a long one!

Question: did you know that sugar free gum has syns??!! Found out last night, and was shocked. I have quite a lot during the week, and will probably now have to cut down... A packet of 10 pellets is 1 syn! Amazing. Does anyone know why??!

YES! My friend told me that on Saturday night! What a joke eh? I have no idea why it has syns. Surely you would never eat 10 pellets in one day. Or even 5? I think I'm just going to ignore that wee rule as I only really have 1 pellet a day at most! What do you think? xxxx

I think that's safe... I mean, seriously, that would mean that you're counting 0.1 syns. Crazy! If you're not swallowing them and they have zero calories, where do the syns come from? That would be like synning water! xx

Sugar free gum has syns? Now that surprises me, but at 1 syn for 10 bits - I don't think that will break the bank!

Question from me. I'm nearer to old fogey than most on here (I think) and I'm having trouble with some of the acronyms that people use.
LOL, OH, btw were new to my vocab but have "learned" those now. Although LOL had me confused for a while as it meant "lots of love" to me.
One that I'm not so sure about is DH and a one from your diary NSV. I've just just looked this up in the online acronyms dictionary and there 18 definitions - none of which seem to make sense. Especially not "non-surgical vasectomy" or "nonspecific vaginitis" - or at least I hope not.
Please put an old woman out of her misery!

Another 1.5 down LS. That is fab. That's three packs of lard that are now no longer hanging off your body :D Well done honey xx

Oh, you have just made me chuckle! So, NSV is a non-scale victory... my trousers nearly falling down, while embarassing (boo! hiss!) mean I must have gotten smaller (yay!). Definitely not non-specific vaginitis!

I think DH is "darling husband" (eugh - who comes up with these, I do not know...) so DD is daughter and DS is son. Then, those with multiple sprogs/offspring may even refer to DD2, DS7 and, possibly, DH210 if they are so inclined...

Another 1.5 down LS. That is fab. That's three packs of lard that are now no longer hanging off your body :D Well done honey xx

Thanks, Chelsea! x

Big grin on me face now.....thanks for that :D

So pleased to be of service on the chuckle front!

Chelsea - also glad to find someone of the older generation around. I was beginning to feel a bit lonely on here!

Have a good day folks - off to clean the house now for mum's arrival tonight. Not looking forward to it! I HATE CLEANING and as today looks as though it's going to get hot (already 23c) it won't be much fun.

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Thanks for your recipes Pommette, I love the sound of the Salmon and the Huevos a la Flamenca, will have a look at doing that recipe soon. Is that a tapas dish

Its a pleasure to be of service! My cooking ain't great - my OH is the chef in our house - but I do experiment occasionally as he doesn't enjoy doing fiddly things.

Huevos a la Flamenca is served as a starter mostly - never come across it as a tapa. Some restaurants add LOADS of garlic & paprka/chilli which can overpower the delicacy of the eggs. As I say, we have it for lunch and it certainly keeps me going until supper.

Have a great day!

Hmmm... I love garlic and paprika. Will definitely try the huevos on the weekend. X

Supper was lovely! Spinach and salmon cooked with a little cheese sauce (inspired by Pommette, thanks!) served with asparagus and a few boiled new potatoes and a poached egg. The sauce worked out at about 12 syns, but between two of us we only had half, so total syns per person was just 3! Uh-may-zing!
