The diary of a (not so-Little)Sausage

Hey Sausage! I need your help. Where can I go for lunch tomorrow in Liverpool? Somewhere a bit cute with some SW options? What was the name of that place you recommended- the egg cafe? Xxxxx

Hi Jules, it was the Egg Cafe and there's one called Leaf which is very good. Not been to either (yet) but a good friend has very recently and recommended both.x

Hey Jules! Yep, I'd recommend the Egg cafe on Newington. It's awesome in there! Xx

Hmmm. So, I think this week will be a write off. Yesterday was good, and then we went out for tapas. It was delicious and was a Latin American tapas as opposed to Spanish so there was a lot less oil than you would usually expect. I was good with alcohol, considering I'm with a whole load of students, and had 3 vodkas with diet coke. I had fruit for breakfast and had packed a couscous salad to have at the service station. Today, I had a fibre plus bar for breakfast and it's * week again(!) and really didn't feel like lunch. Then the boys did a barbecue and I had a home made burger and a couple of chicken wings. I didn't remove the skin, and had a bun with the burger. I did make a huge salad, and had quite a bit and packed some away for the journey back tomorrow. And I've had another 3 vodkas with diet coke.

So, although I haven't had a huge amount, it hasn't really been SW friendly. But, I don't feel bad. A burger bun and a couple of chicken wings shouldn't (I hope) mean that the whole week is ruined. It has, however, been an excellent couple of days. Roche Abbey was amazing, Chatsworth house a bit of a let down (long story) but the weather has been incredible and it's been awesome being with both my brothers. Leaving early tomorrow morning so am hoping for a better drive home.

Hope everyone's had a great week and is looking forward to the weekend!

Xx

You've had a great time, and what's the point if any of it if you can't still go that. If you're anything like me, last summer you'd have had double the bbq food - which means you have still followed SW principles everything (well the naughtier stuff) in moderation.

Glad you had fun. Drive safely Speedy!

I think this is the thing isn't it. You should go out have fun and definately not feel bad about it (I mean what kind of life is it without fun?) but now you eat differently to how you did before anyway. As you know I'll be having a few drinks tomorrow - I'm fairly certain it will be more than 3  :) but I avoided the takeaway and I'm cooking SW friendly and I'll be straight back on plan the next day. As Pinkie says so different to how we would have eaten before.

You are doing great. I'm glad you and your brothers are having a lovely time together. xx

I agree with Red and Pinkie,

It doesn't sound like you did too badly. If you were to syn the roll and the skin it wouldn't be too bad. For me this plan is about following it but not feeling deprived and enjoying the food. And you have. So continue to do your best under the circumstances but don't give up and feel 'blow it' if you end up having a bit extra than you anticipated. You are doing just fine.

Glad you've had a good time.

Gail x

P.S. Jules - hope you have a lovely time in Liverpool. I was there today :). Please let us know what you ate (as usual) and even better if you have pictures :D

Hi LilSos,

Don't be disheartened by the not so good stuff you had! Sometimes we concentrate so much on a few bad things and not the many good things we've eaten, so cut yourself some slack- you may be absolutely fine, and even if it doesn't work out well it's only 1 week in a huuuge ocean of good weeks!!XXX

The weather in Sheffield was absolutely lovely. The weather was incredible and it was so good to see my little bro. His housemates are hilarious!
The drive back was good, too, and took just about 4.5 hours. Compared to the 6.5 on the way up (I hate the M1) it was a walk in the park.

Yesterday I had a Fibre Plus bar and a coffee with milk and sugar (HEa + 2 syns) for breakfast and had packed some leftover salad for lunch which we had when we stopped at the Watford gap services. for supper I made another salad with loads of leaves, cucumber, tomatoes, chicken, half a boiled egg and a potato salad with some EL mayonnaise (1 syn). Later I had a few Cadbury caramel nibbles (overestimate 7 syns). Total syns: 10

Today I woke up to find that my dog had not only stolen my overnight bag from the hallway and dragged it to the living room, but had proceeded to break in to it, spread everything over the floor and, basically do awful things, to get at the Fibre Plus and Alpen light bars I had left in there. They were zipped in the outside pocket which he couldn't open, so he ripped a hole in the inside of the bag to get to them. The picture of my dog is when he wouldn't even look at me, he knew he'd been naughty.

Breakfast:
I made a breakfast of loads of fresh fruit (melon, mango, watermelon and strawbs) and croissants for mum and bother. I had fruit only. Coffee with whole milk and sugar (HEa + 2 syns)

Had breakfast at about 10, so may snack on some cucumber and bean dip later.

Supper:
No idea! Think I might make a rice salad, and grill some chicken breast and veg kebabs on the barbecue. Mum and bro will probably have some bread with theirs. I'm also going to make a pebre (Latin sauce with lemon, tomato, onion, fresh coriander, parsley and a little chilli. It's not cooked) and put on some flat mushrooms on the grill. Pebre is particularly good with meat, but is eaten with most things.

I went to the international food place near me and stocked up on loads of salad bits. It should last a week, but I've been having so much salad that it may only last a couple of days!

Hi Little Sausage!

I'm really pleased you had a lovely time in Sheffvegas! My motherland! Sorry you didn't like Chatsworth... I hope you weren't cursing my name when you were there! Lol. I think you did amazingly well with your eating - don't worry about a pesky roll and a bit of chicken skin - even if you did go over your syns a bit it is NOT a write off, you did brilliantly AND surely you had a few spare syns from earlier in the week? Don't worry about it lady! Also I bet you did a lot of body magic with all that walking and exploring. Your tapas looks awesome - where was the Latin American tapas place?

I had a good LOL about your dog getting in your makeup bag. I showed the pic of your guilty dog to my bf because it reminded me of this video. Hee hee! Sorry, I know it shouldn't be funny!!! :D

MMMMM! Your bbq plans sound... AMAZING!!!!

Hope you've had a great weekend Sausage. I think you're a star!!!

LS - you sound as though you had a great time and not that off plan!
If you want to know naughty - we've just had friends for sunday lunch (mum's here too). Had planned roast chicken but because it is so hot we abandoned that idea and had a bbq. Everything on plan apart from the magic mash (mashed spuds with mayo and onions), coleslaw, alioli and garlic bread! LOL - at least all the mayo things were done with light stuff.
Today I woke up to find that my dog had not only stolen my overnight bag from the hallway and dragged it to the living room, but had proceeded to break in to it, spread everything over the floor and, basically do awful things, to get at the Fibre Plus and Alpen light bars I had left in there. I take it your dog is a labby so what on earth do you expect. When it comes to food they have always been know to me as "organic garbage disposers"

Hi Lil Sausage,

I'm sorry but I laughed (and gasped !) when I read your description of your dog and I loved the photos even more (your dog is GORGEOUS). You are doing great - I think in the grand scheme of things a bit of chicken skin will be evened out with the rest of your syns this week. You are eating a lot of salad at the moment. I know that will help your losses (because it's really low calorie) but in the longer term you may need to eat a bit more on some days over summer so that your losses don't slow up. Obviously that's just my own personal advice and you are very welcome to ignore it !!!!

Glad you had a good time in Sheffield and that the driving wasn't toooooo bad (I hate driving long distances so I sympathise) and well done for planning and beating the temptations en route !

Thanks, Jules! Chatsworth itself wasn't the problem - it just took us about 3 hours to find the place! We ended up going up and down mountains and country tracks and got to the estado about 20 mins before it closed. On the bright side we saw some of the most beautiful views from up high. The areas around Sheffield is absolutely incredible.

The Latin tapas place is called La Mama and is on Abbeydale road and they have a blog here It is fantastic and very Latin as opposed to Spanish. I definitely recommend it! Fortunately it wasn't all swimming in oil! I had a slice of some lovely cake though - it was a small slice and very light, with a hot chocolate and chilli sauce. Amazing! I have been pretty low on syns, so don't feel too bad about it.

It was a bit chilly this evening so ended up using the grill. Supper was awesome and that little bit of pebre was great, keeping things nice and fresh. Food diary has been a bit haphazard to say the least, but will be back to normal tomorrow!

As for Schnarf, OMG. He was awful! The first thing I thought was how like Denver he is. Glad I'm not the only one!

Hope you got your reports done?! X

Yep, this one is a lab. The naughtiest, most awful lab in the world. He has just turned 3, so am hoping he will have grown out of his awfulness in another 3 years.

Thanks for stopping by, Gail! I have definitely upped what I'm eating over the last couple of days, and I know you're right. I tend to not eat so much during the day and then have a big dinner. I think I'm going to have to get in the habit of eating more. Little and often, isn't that what they say?! The drive there was horrific. The M1 was awful, and I have never known so many idiot drivers be on the road at the same time. Some people should just not be on the motorway. It didn't help that the M25 and the M1 at this end was pretty much all 50mph due to road works. Argh! Way home was so much better. As for beating the temptations, I am so glad that I prepared for the rest stops in advance!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Not long now til all those bank holidays! Yay!

Ah, now I see why Chatsworth wasn't so good ! At least you got some lovely views and the light in the evening to enjoy them :) Ah well, it's all good experience...............................

Fingers crossed about your dog. Aren't labs supposed to be quite easy to train....................................:p????!

I suffer from the same problem as you - not so much about not eating during the day because I do, but I tend to eat much more in the evenings. I agree little and often would probably be better for me too but it just doesn't fit into my lifestyle ! Hope it goes well.

Ha! Yes, training labradors from puppies is relatively easy. He was a rescue, and we got him at 9 months old. He was the size of a house, (over 50kg) and was not properly house trained. I worked really hard with him, and it was all ruined by my brothers who let him do whatever he wanted, including eating socks, shoes, sleeping on their beds... Fortunately, he doesn't chew things so much any more (except socks!) but he is so food driven that he will do anything to get it. My fault for leaving the cereal bars in the bag!
xx

Hey Sausage, glad you liked the area around Sheff. It's lovely isn't it. Did you visit that Connsibrough castle in the end? X

No, didn't make it to Conisbrough castle... will definitely try next time though. And set aside a whole day for Chatsworth! xx

I wouldn't bet on it! Our friends labby - fully trained gun dog - was fantastic when out on a shoot, but as naughty as any when around food. Even at 11 years old he would still steal any food he could get at!

You sound like you are having a brilliant time Saus, you have been doing incredibly well.

I totally laughed out loud at your dog's guilty photo - he looked like he knew he'd been naughty. I have experienced similar with OH's parent's dog at Christmas who broke into my bag and ravaged a box of chocs I had bought for someone.

PS: I have a total salad addiction too! I love it.
