Tipperary will rock 2025

Just in from the walk with Oscar, 5km walk around the town. About 500 people I reckon. Having stir fry veg with cashews and konjac noodles for lunch. Oscar is still here as his Mam and Dad at a funeral and I have lots of housework to do. Daughter 2 is coming down for the weekend and wants to go out or order in Chinese takeaway, hopefully they do that without me.

It was worth not having the wine last night as I am another 400g down this morning. I think I've given myself enough of a buffer to have a glass or two tonight. I have kale and potatoes so might have colcannon with a poached egg for dinner.

Well things diet wise went downhill from there...full confessions in my food diary, I really can't admit to it twice.
I'm not going to weigh in today but will leave it to tomorrow
Our volunteer arrives today and I really hope I can continue with my diet...up to now it hasn't been obvious I'm eating totally different to everyone else but now I will have to sit down to meals twice a day. I think soups and salads are my best lunch options and they can have sandwiches with it.
Its too expensive to make konjac noodles for 4 or vegan sausages.
I might get quorn mince and beef mince and batch cook some bolognese to have with pancakes or baked potatoes or something. Most of our volunteers will be French and they expect salad then main then cheese then dessert. Well they won't be getting all of that for dinner but sausage and chips won't cut it either. I need to go shopping and stock up with yougurts and pasta...thats what French volunteers eat when they have to cook for themselves.

Meant to say my back has greatly improved. I can walk and exercise but still can't sit down properly for long periods...short drives only. I have a slightly sore knee and foot and am taking glucosimine (well plan on). I don't want to assume arthritis but do want to be pro active about it. I know diet can play a big part so need to find out what foods cause inflammation and try to cut these out...honestly all food soon will be out.

I went and saw a man last week about my knees. Had xray done to see whats going on.He mentioned arthritis I hope not as I love cycling and walking. Why don't volunteers eat what you are eating? If I went to France I wouldn't expect them to cook me fish and chips or a roast dinner. I would try and eat what they eat.

Really pleased to hear your back is better. Sore joints can happen for all sorts of reasons, but it's worth getting them checked out - and in terms of supplements, the best ones are glucosamine + chondroitin + boswellia in one - and green lipped mussel tablets - both proven to ease joint pain, but you need to take them for a while. Also - ACV is supposed to be good.

Yes I agree, I'm sure having English cuisine is all part of the fun of volunteering :).

Its not that they won't eat what I eat...its that I'm not eating "normal" meals myself. If husband and son are here they can have salad and steak and chips or a casserole followed by yogurt and apple tart. But if its just me then I cant expect or afford to give them konjac and tofu. I'm sure it will settle down but I suppose what I am trying to say is husband and son haven't really noticed I'm dieting and I dont want to make an issue out of it. I've written a big shopping list and if in doubt fill them with pasta and have lots of bread and cheese.

Sounds like things are going well Tipp, I would find it exhausting cooking for people I don't know every day so fair play to you. I'm sure you will be able to find a way to stick to the diet, well done on your weight loss so far :)

Thanks, he seems nice. Just had dinner with him and we had salad to start and then I had colcannon and quorn and he had bacon, potatoes and broccoli... Just us two as son and husband still out. I've told him I don't eat meat and often cook separate meals. He seems relaxed enough I assume we will settle into a routine .
I didn't get out for a walk today at all but spent all morning doing housework and am exhausted now.
Have to take daughter to Limerick tomorrow for hospital appointment and will be gone most of the day. Wearing runners and will do some walking around the city, won't have time for breakfast first. I imagine I will see some tributes to Dolores O Riordan there.

Oh no, I've only just read about Dolores O Riordan...how very sad, fantastic voice.
Re the food & inflammation link..http://www.arthritis.org/living-with-arthritis/arthritis-diet/foods-to-avoid-limit/
My sister says dairy is her worst food for inflammation, followed closely by wheat. She's in the middle of a really big flare up and prior to it was skipping meals and eating a lot of bread. Stress and not getting enough rest also big causes of inflammation for her x

Thanks Tibbs, I'm off (or technically should be off )/dairy so just need to watch the wheat. Oranges too I believe cause problems.
Anyway that binge over the weekend caused a massive 900g increase this morning. That and no exercise and lots of potato and a later dinner last night...I need to cop on to myself and get serious.
Off out now and wearing runners so plan on city walking but there is a massive hail.shower out now. I've packed a heavy coat

I've found a couple of sites that might interest you selfsufficientcafe.blogspot.co.uk and allotment2kitchen.blogspot.co.uk

Thanks Tibbs, that's great

Sitting in a hotel drinking mint tea. Dropped daughter one of for first ante natal.check up and she will be a good few hours. Popped into.hotel.for tea and syr half a nakd bar. Will head out for a walk then, hoping to go to council offices and sign book of condolences for Dolores. Then off to browse in shops and maybe get eyebrows done. Have agreed to have brunch or lunch in hotel with daughter and then a quick.stop in cash and carry before going home.
I've left soup made at home for boys and leftover chicken wings and sausage pies. I can have soup tonight and stir fry veg or some vegan sausages on pitta with salad. There is enough bacon left for them with we pasta and sauce.
Tired this morning, unsettled night but whole household seemed like that.

Oh so sad about Dolores, do they know what happened?

Sorry you didn't sleep well, some nights are just like that - but enjoy your day in town, sounds really nice.

It hasn't been released yet and family have asked for privacy so who knows. I decided a new tracksuit bottoms was more important than eyebrows so got them and a cuddly yellow cardigan on sale. Went to council offices and was one of the first ten to.sign book of condolences...didn't plan it that way they were just opening it when I arrived. However the place was full of TV cameras and journalists and photographers so I kept my head down and signed it and left without stopping. Strangely it was quite emotional, strange things make me weepy.

Morning all. Haven't weighed in this morning so no good or bad news.
I ended up having croque Monsieur for brunch yesterday. Not a good choice with ham, cheese and bread but it was that or a full fried breakfast....I wanted just poached egg on toast but not available. Had it about 11:30 and was all I had until dinner last night of stir fry konjac noodles and veg.
Had an Easons voucher for €20 to buy a book, I waited until the sales so I could get 2... The new John Grisham and Gary Taubers The Case Against Sugar...only started the first chapter but even the introduction is scary reading.
Having porridge and have leftover noodles or soup for lunch and I want to make some bread today.

Food choices don't sound too bad yesterday and your evening meal was healthy. I'll be interested to know what the Gary Taubes book is like I might buy that. Have a good day Tipp :)

I'm on page 59 and terrified of eating sugar now...basically its an addictive poison that we get babies hooked on.

Had a meeting in town today in a hotel and had decided I would have a fruit scone with butter...but no one came over to us to see if we wanted anything so escaped that. Have just come home though and had a glass if wine (well still having it) and three small slices of homemade brown bread with butter...the bread is yummy

But with all I am reading and all I am told I am totally confused about what is good/ bad to eat...I know simple sugar is bad but am confused with carbs versus fat...too complicated.

Our volunteer seems to be OK and I spent a few hours in the garden today with him. We have all the recycling gone and rubbish cleared, tomorrow we can start on washing paths and then the weeding. I didn't go gor a walk today, the few hours fresh air was his morning wore me out.

Dinner for the boys is oven chips, frozen veg and steak, and then bread and cheese and ice cream if they want it. Its a kale and quinoa burger for me with veg and a handful of oven chips.
