Tough love - off topic and chit-chat

Morning All - just getting my breath back from my kettlebell session just now. My core is now screaming at me. I know folk complain about the DOMS (delayed onset muscle strain) but personally I love it. It reminds me I have worked hard! Mulling over what to have for lunch - a large salad with small cubes of cheese or my usual soup and a slice of wholemeal bread. Can go either way at the moment - but everything I eventually have today will be in plan so no worries on that score.

How annoying, WI tomorrow and I haven't ahem..... 'moved' for 4 or 5 days. I took 3 sennakot last night (only supposed to take one every 12 hours) and still no joy. I had this problem on the week I STS - I REALLY feel like I need and deserve a good loss this week and it is annoying when digestive 'issues' mask it. I WANT MY STONE BADGE!!

On the plus side, OH and I have just agreed to go off in our camper van for the weekend - whatever the weather. So far, since we bought it in March, we have only used it twice! So rain or shine, we are going down to Croyde in Devon for the weekend. Lots of nice hilly coastal walks, or if the weather is rubbish we will dodge the showers and just look out of the window. I like going for runs in new places too.

We are lucky as it has a gas oven, grill and hob, so no need to live on Pasta 'n' Sauce all weekend, can cook the same nice healthy stuff as if we were at home. Won't have the fridge working as we are free camping, but will take a big coolbox for all that fat free dairy stuff. Quite excited!

Sounds like you are going to have an awesome time. My weekend plans are a couple of parties so far- I have no intentions of drinking and I should eat well within plan. I can't drink on Friday anyway- doing a Special Shift for the Education Office at another school with the small kids. Lots of running will be involved!

Oh for Christ's sake Lou. If you didn't have bad luck, you'd have no luck at all. I hope your neice is ok - at least she's already in the hospital so she can start getting all the help she needs. Thinking of you and yours. xx

Eurgh more bad news from my camp. My
6 month old niece is in hospital with suspected meningitis. Not feeling or looking too great today, but sticking to
Plan non the less. I refuse to comfort eat it won't help anything

Oh no! Gosh you and your lot are really going through the ropes at the moment, aren't you? Really hope it works out - my little brother had meningitis when he was 2 and survived without any lingering health problems. Did they catch it early?

Be careful not to take too much senna/too often, as your body gets reliant on it.

Have you got any scan bran? I find two scan bran, and then 2 pints or so of water or NAS squash tends to flush it all through.

Have heard that before with scanbran, it helped someone in my group who didn't go for the whole 2 weeks she was on holiday(!). Don't have any but will buy some at next WI - oat bran is the same stuff and when I was on the dukan diet I used to eat it stirred into a mullerlight - but just looked it up and see it is 4.5 fecking syns for 25g! Maybe you can have it as a healthy extra, but I prefer cereal for breakfast.

Also wary of laxatives, only use them sporadically when I feel I need to, particularly before weigh ins. Downing gallons of water and going for run tonight. Hope that works!!

Sorry Lou, that's awful. Sending positive vibes your way!

Can I just say on a more light-hearted theme that Palmers Cocoa Butter is fabulous and I can't believe I only discovered it a few months ago. Dirt cheap and brill moisturisation (is that even a word??). And better still, if you are having chocolate cravings you use this after a shower and you smell like a walking hot chocolate. Plus I don't think there's any calories in it if you start licking your arm absent-mindedly! :)

Haha if only it was as simple as reducing salt intake - I would be a size zero, I never use salt in my cooking. From what I gather, koreans generally don't have a weight problem (as well as staggeringly low incidence of breast cancer). What is it about their diet and way of life that means they don't put on weight do you think?

Oops, sorry realised this is a bit chatty...happy to carry on in the chat thread.

This is from the other thread, I am responding to Bonnie!

I never use salt in my cooking either. I should definitely be skinny :D

I'm honestly kind of baffled as to how they stay skinny. They eat white rice, three times a day, lots of meat but also lots of veggies. Dessert plays a much smaller part in Korean meals however and is generally fruit or Ice Cream if you're really pushing the boat out. But they do eat LOADS! But then I suppose Meat and Rice make up the bulk of their calories!

Fat Koreans do exist but I assume they eat in a more western style or eat more processed food. I think the real secret is more then fact that as a culture they are more active. Hiking is a way of life here and I think it's harder to eat lots of bad food. Korean food is pretty healthy generally as it uses so many vegetables and they don't really cook with oil or anything. Sauces aren't really used here- instead it's 'pastes'. And they chocolate and bakery sections are much smaller here. And there's hardly any dairy to eat.

Their cases of Breast Cancer may be the lowest in the world but their cases of Stomach Cancer are the highest- after all, they spend a lifetime eating Kimchi 3 times a day which is covered in Spicy Red Pepper Paste! And they eat loads of other food with that on too!

Thanks guys, doc been round they're now saying its a viral
Infection but she has to stay in til the bloods come back tomorrow. She's projectile vomiting and got a weird rash apparently. I go at half 3 so hopefully I'll have better information as its all been done via text at the minute.

I think the Malaysians have a great diet, yes they eat carbs but by sounds of it they get burnt off as they're meant to, low fat balanced with protein and veg. Spicy food helps too apparently it aids the metabolism. Maybe we should go on a Malaysian diet?

Hmm puzzling if there is lots of carbs like rice, but thinking about it, as you say, with not many puddings etc perhaps the missing factor is sugar? Wasn't there that book about the evils of sugar and how it makes you more fat than fat does? (smileyman c'mon and give us the science bit). And doesn't sound like there is much snacking between meals either. Curious!

That's good news - docs are really paranoid about menengitis these days, so if they were at all concerned, sure they would assume the worst. Hope she is OK. x

Yeah the lack of sugar could be a key part of it. There is generally a lack of wheat too- they use rice flour for pretty much everything. They snack very little unless it's as a communal thing!

Fingers crossed they work out what's wrong Lou. At least she is in the best place and the Docs are working it out!

They don't get the bloods back til tomorrow night at the earliest, but been to see her and she looks ok. Think they're just being cautious tbh

You must be really relieved! That's good news.

Good news Lou! I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)
