Tough love - off topic and chit-chat

The 2 pound I seemed to gain is back off today. Must have been bloat WOO

Brilliant news ^^

Also, thanks for being my friend on MFP! :D

Just finished my run on my elliptical for today. Urgh. I am on Week 7 of C25K and finding it really psychologically tough now. Must poower through. Also, I didn't know my body had that much sweat... it was dripping off the tops of my hands!

Well done FL, hang on in there, you are dong amazing things for yourself. You are going to smash that August goal before the end of July at this rate.

First venture into the thread. OK, the Week 3 Smiley Sweepstake is on: how much will Smiley's weight loss be tomorrow?

Helpful info: the pharmacist measures in 0.1kg increments, so guesses in kilos please. Week 1's loss was 8.9kgs, Week 2 was 3.3...

Moved this here as its more chit-chatty

I think if I'm going to stick to this for the long run (which I will, til march 2014 *sigh*!) I need to work out why I'm doing it!

I'm happy with my current size. I'm not a big fan of my flubby arms, but I'm quite happy being a size 18/20 - I've been this since I was 20 and have loads of clothes I like and that suit me, and bags of self confidence.

I've been skinny, but it was when I was anorexic or in recovery, so I don't have that skinny = happy mindset.

I tell myself it's for my health, it can't be good for me to be obese - but my BP is actually too low, my cholesterol is low, my blood glucose is low. Obviously this may change when Im older, but for now I'm classed as below-average on all stats. And I know professionally that fat doesn't equal unhealthy nor skinny healthy.

There are some horrible cardiac conditions in my family that caused all my dads cousins to drop dead of heart attacks before they were 40 - but I've been tested, as its genetic, and I don't have the gene.

But I'm here, and I've done 10 weeks of this and I've lost 1/2 stone, so obviously something is driving me I just don't know what. Right now it doesn't bother me too much, but when the going gets tough I think I will need motivation to drive me and I don't know what that will be.

I was just about to reply and you moved it, I think it was valid where it was TBH, but it's here now so here is my take on it

at whatever weight I've always been happy and have always had bags of self confidence. Always had very nice girlfriends over the years. Always been the last man standing at parties, always danced to the cheesy disco music and always worked hard.

health is the big driver. And being able to run and catch my 4 year old son, swoop him up tickle him and have fun.

Being able to only just beat my daughters in the swimming pool who are eight and ten was a big eye-opener. I am a strong swimmer!

Yomp up and down those blasted cliffs in search of the bass. And up and down again when my intuition tells me they are around THAT headland 1.5 miles away....

I'll be totally honest, I think at this point your goal weight is a big ask and the 2014 thing is de-motivating you. You've posted that 2, maybe 3 times in the past week. So it doesn't sit well in your head. Switch it. You're in control, not someone else's rules.

If it was me I would change my goal to an interim one for Dec 31st 2012 and re-visit from there

And if your "flubby" arms pee you off to that extent, make THEM the project and the rest of you around them cannot fail to fall into line.

you need to find the reason? Silly as it may seem, , that could be it

Boot camp again tonight eeeekkkkk!! I am prepared with lots of water and an afternoon snack. Hope this week is better than last week ?

I have a question about exercise....this might be right up your alley smiley. My bf tells me not to be upset in the next few weeks if I don't lose as now I am doing exercise and I will initially replace the fat with muscle. Is this true? How much is it like to affect my weight loss?

Gosh I don't know how you do it Lou, I would be rubbish if I weighed myself that often! I have been really good, even avoided using my parents scales when I went to the loo at theirs the other day. Once a week is definitely enough for me - and WI is tonight. Am nervous but also excited...nothing like that feeling while you wait for the numbers to pop up on the scales after a really good week...apart from the elation when you have a good loss or hit a mini-target. Or the despair when you sts or put on when it is unjustified! Couldn't go through it every day. Different strokes for different folks mind.

Glad it was good news for you though!

It depends how fat you are and what sort of exercise you do. If you've got a lot of body fat, then you'll be burning through it faster than you can build muscle, so you'll still lose weight. Also, if you have an exercise regime that is very aerobic (e.g. marathon training) then that will actually reduce your muscle mass because your body will destroy it's own 'strength' muscles so that it doesn't have to carry it around all the time.

But in general, yes, muscle is more dense than fat (see various photos) so a fit woman in a size 8 dress will weigh more than a woman who is a fatty size 8 (yes, such a thing exists!) and (in my humble, but male, opinion) will look a lot better too!

Since no-one wants my bread, and posting mayonnaise (my other passion) is likely to be very messy, I'll have to email you a picture of me that you can photoshop onto your own to make you look much thinner. The tried-and trusted Stand Next To Smiley diet :)

It's 3.8 from me Smiley. I think you are well into your stride now and are gonna knock it out the park! (Too American maybe .. :p) x
