20 somethings

Jenna I have just stood on the scales myself and they're still not moving, so I'm now officially peed off!

Fran, I started off at 18st, am 14.2 now, and want to get down to around 9st (I think). Not too sure about setting a target, until I get down to around ten stone and see if I even want or need to lose any more. I'm 5 foot 2.

I think I have weighed myself 3 times today so yep, mad. Just remember you always weigh more the night before. Mine is usually 3-5lbs difference to sw scales. Fretting won't change things so try to not wind yourself up. You will get your 3.5 stone award.

Ah mandy we're not too dissimilar (20st5lbs start, 16st9lbs current, 10st7lbs end, 5ft5) oh you are close to your 4 stone award.

Forgot to say, went blackberry picking with my little boy today. Fun, bit of body magic and he ate about half of them. So pleased he likes fruit and veg. :) just had to make sure he didn't try to eat the briony! (extremely poisonous hedgerow plant with green/white berries)

That's so cute. We live a good bit away from town, on country roads, and the road here is full of blackberry and raspberry bushes... I don't know when they're in season, and probably wouldn't eat them if they were haha Well not straight from the bush.... flies land on them, and also land on poo....

Only 2lb to go for my 4st... and it's fighting me every step of the way lol. I really think the bleeds are causing it though. Surely if I had an underactive thyroid, I would have found it harder to lose all along.
I think you're only a pound behind me, Fran! Exciting stuff!

Nope, 2lbs behind. Mine is not shifting either. Lentil soup seems to have moved things along so fingers crossed. If it hasn't moved I'm going to have to do a red and green week.

We've not got a problem with eating off the hedge, good for the immune system lol. Just don't pick low down ones. Our garden is 2.5 acres boardered by hedgerow, so it was just our garden ones he was munching. It is a bit like wildlife on one showing him the bunnies running around, the badger sets and climbing through the gap to show him the cows in the field next door.

Your thyroid could have been boarderline. Mum lost 3.5 stone then couldn't shift anything and weight was coming on, a routine blood test showed up the thyroid problem, but she was tired all the time and was getting bald patches too, and crazy emotional.

I just started to teach myself Mandy, I really want jack to have something that I made him. My nan sent me a crochet leaflet and hook and I learnt the basic stitch from that but when I tried to make a blanket it somehow turned into a hat? Will try and post a photo tomorrow at some point As no idea how to do it on my phone. Anyway, decided I'd learn better by watching someone do it and you inspired me with your scarf tonight so I googled it and found a YouTube tutorial on how to make a scarf using a pattern. I've started it and it looks great! I think I'm probably about a third of the way there after just two hours. I'm using this one as practice then will have a go at doing some more for people for Christmas presents and have a go at making a blanket for jack. Think I'm going to get a thicker hook too as I've got a 4mm one at the moment and think it would be nicer if the stitches were chunkier. I will post a photo of it when it's done though :) I'm just using some cheapie wool from the pound shop for now while I practice. I wouldn't have a clue what kind of wool to get for the ones I'm making as presents so any tips you can throw my way would be great! :) xx

Great job Jenna, well done! :) xx

Well done jenna so close to that award now x

Well done jenna! Good luck for dublin :)

Sammy that's great. A thicker yarn will give bigger stitches, and with a thicker yarn you will tend to use a bigger needle/hook. A thicker hook on its own will make bigger loops but not bigger stitches, so it'll be more gappy. Patterns will specify yarn weight and hook/needle size. The yarn you have now will probably be double knit (dk) also known as 8 ply or worsted weight (which can be 8-10 ply). I'm currently using Aran, which is one up from double knit and using 4mm and 5mm needles. Different needles to allow some shaping. Hope that helps explain a little.

I hopped on the scales this morning and it looks like no change so I am not happy

Well done Jenna! Keep it going down, hun!

Sammy, I used a 4mm hook to make the scarf. A lot of patterns ask you to start off a half a mil bigger and then use a smaller one... no idea why, as I'm still learning myself lol. I'm using double knit too, I asked the lady in the wool shop which wool to use and she picked it out -- I just picked the colour -- and she said it was suitable for a 4mm/4.5mm hook. Good job cos the only other size I have is 6mm. I'm thinking I'll go into the shop every week and pick up a new hook and some wool.
I'm going to try working in the round next, as I have a lovely idea for a hat for Fia -- my baby -- for Xmas... a white or cream hat with a red ribbon worked through in a bow, something like the scarf, but not all the way round as I'll need it to stretch. Might eventually have a go at mittens lol
I would just say be aware of where the tutorial videos you're watching are from, as American crochet and UK crotchet differ in the names of stitches. E.g. a single crochet in the U.S. is a double crochet in the UK.... I had to convert the scarf pattern from U.S. to U.K before I started.

Meant to say, I went to bed not long after my last post last night, crippled with pains -- period pains -- these went on for a few hours, along with bleeding, and then stopped as suddenly as they came on. This morning I stood on the scales and they have moved a little, so I'm really hoping to have lost something by Tuesday! C'mon body, I've worked so hard! lol
Going to have poached eggs on toast for breakfast this morning -- 4 syns for flora light spread. It is 1 syn per tsp, isn't it?

Thanks for the tips ladies! :) I'll probably be ok with the pattern discrepancies between us and uk, I can't read the patterns on paper, get too confused, so will probably do them
From tutorials on YouTube instead as I learn better by watching people do something rather than looking at pictures. I'm so impressed with how much of my scarf I did in just 2 hours last night, crochet is so much faster than knitting! Xx

Had a really lazy day today. Didn't go as far as the front door. I did do some cleaning, but that's essential with 3 kids in the house... Today I went Green lol

Breakfast -- poached eggs on toast (heb + 4 syns for flora light), with cuppa (hea milk)

Lunch -- Fruit and Muller Lemon Greek yogurt (1/2 syn), and cuppa

Dinner -- SW chips, roasted carrots and two LM Italian Vegatarian sausages (1 syn)

Planning on two hi-fi light bars with a milky options later (heb + hea)

All in all, I will have used 7.5 syns. I really hope my hard work pays at WI. If not, I swear to God I'm coming home and ordering Chinese food lol

Ooh, I am wondering if I eat too much seeing you just had fruit and yogurt for lunch. I had lentil and vegetable soup again (homemade) and a banana. I LOVE those lemon mullers. Yum. I love citrus though.

The scales won't shift and I am feeling so disheartened. I always measure my healthy extras and syns, and my syns have gone 6, 8,, 9.5, 9.5, just had 1.5 and no hea or heb yet so I had best use them and some more syns before bed so I know I have done everything exactly right. I just have so much to lose... :(

Mandy, i've finished my scarf! I hope you don't mind, but i loved your ribbon idea and as i had a ribbon in to compliment my blue scarf i totally copied putting it round the outside because i think it looks amazing! Sorry for copying and thank you for your help with info on crocheting! :thankyou:

I can't believe i actually made one! I have a fancy new scarf now :) xx
