Saturday 3rd August 2013

Back has been really awful today but went out anyway just to take my mind of it..no good sitting at home commiserating with myself.
Took some light bulbs back to Tesco as I had mistakenly bought the same ones again instead of some lower wattage ones. No problems with them taking them back. Had a mooch round store on one of their scooters.
Lovely day and enjoyed the drive out.
Went into back garden and did a little bit of gardening.. not a sensible thing to do.. but then..there you go!!

Diet went okay-ish!

Morning Emm

Hope the gardening hasn't hurt your back and that all is well with you this morning. Just posted on my diary that it was grey and wet (well it was) looked up and the sun is shining and it looks lovely out. Flippin weather would drive a person crazy.

The newts run all over the stone walls of the potting shed. It is sandstone and the door has a gap at the top and the bottom and they get into the nooks and crannies of the stone, unused plant pots and into the tool box and so on. (I pick things up very carefully :)) J was saying that he thinks there is also a frog living in there - he's seen it a couple of times and it is probably using the newts as dinner. We get a lot of frogs at the front because of the loch, but this one must have found it's way round.

We are only a couple of minutes walk from the place in the link as it is on the outskirts of the village.

Hope you have a nice Sunday

Fascinating stuff Nelli and the place looks great...altho' I don't think I would be too happy about being over run by newts tbh!

Sunday 4th August 2013

Odd sort of day... didn't wake up until very late again.
Did one or two odd jobs, my youngest D rang and we had a nice chat. Unfortunately I made her rather upset as I sort of suggested going to stay with her for a couple of days to which she replied rather half heartedly..so I thought.. only to have her ring me back in floods of tears as she didn't want me to think I wasn't welcome but she had such a lot of things to do and lots of clutter around the house from her family...(long story) I was annoyed with myself for having said that as it was for rather selfish reasons. One thing I assured her about is that I am extremely proud of what she has achieved and that she has put such a lot of loving and caring kindness into raising her family as has my eldest D.

Sorted a few things and then laid down because of my back..fell asleep and only woke up again about 9.30... where did the day go? Guess that means I won't be sleeping much tonight..

It's a typical little Spanash village. No different from thousands around. The village is quite boriing to look at as no one has gardens. But some of the views across the surrounding countryside are lovely.
I've attached some public links to a couple of Facebook Albums that Mr P put online a while ago.
Our Village - El Saladar
The one below is some shots of Almoradí - a small town about 2 km away of which El Saladar is officially one of thhe outlying hamlets.

I love marmite too especially on thick buttered toast.
This is how I lurvvvvvvvvvvvve it too!

Really weird - Minis is obviously blanking out the facebook word to stop people linking.
If you change all the ***** that show up and change them to facebook . com it should show them (and I've had to edit this too!)

I'll have a go at that Bev altho' I wont hold my breath 'cos I'm not very good at that sort of thing.

Monday contd:

Had my diabetic check up this morning and the nurse was gobsmacked at how much I had lost. The surgery scales showed me as 187.5 and that was dressed (obviously!) but my scales said 188.8 before I was dressed!! Usually it's the other way round.
All my other checks were decidedly improved.. BP last year 140/80 today 131/77 Cholesterol target 5 last year 6.7 today 5.7, DB control target 50 today 44.

Morrisons for lunch which was heaving with children which is only to be expected now they are all on holiday. At least there were no screaming ones.

Just turned everything off as a storm passed over with lots of lightening. Don't even like having my TV on either...really scared. At least we had a goodly amount of rain so my blueberry bushes should be okay now.

Breakfast - Oats 30g + Honey 0.5 Tablspn
Lunch - Morrisons Roast chicken etc.
Snack - Raspberries 110g + Crème Fraiche 50ml
Evening - Cheese 50g + Salad + S.Cream 20g

We hardly ever go down to the beach. I would love to as I love swimming in the sea but Mr P hates sea with a vengeace.
In fact he doesn't really enjoy going in a pool. He's a great swimmer, it's just that he doesn't like cold water. Wuss

Rather restless night so found I was rather tired this morning... nothing to worry about having to do so just relaxed in my chair..

Physio this afternoon and I had to think when the last time my arm was painful..only have a bit of pain now and again and it doesn't get locked very much at all.
Off to have a bra fitting tomorrow and the next day I have my hair coloured. A bit nervous about the fitting but look forward to having my hair done.

Meal tonight was a surprise! .. I have an awful habit of putting stuff in the freezer and not labelling them so was curious what it would be. Turned out it was mung bean stew.. :hmm: Not sure I liked it but it was different.

Breakfast - NIL (up too late)
Lunch - Bacon 60g + Bread 1 slice +Butter
Snack - Brazil Nuts 50g + Cheese triangle 0.5 + Scan Bran slice 1
Evening - Mung Beans Stew + Brown Soda Bread 30g + Butter
Supper - Digestive Biscuit 1
Extra - Milk 180ml

Ha Ha Ha at the not labelling - I do that too with J's meat and end up defrosting something I didn't intend too.

Great that your tests came out so well - bet the doctor was pleased with you.

Emm - glad the physio seems to working on your arm.
Nay panic about the bra fitting. It was the best thing I did after losing all my weight.
I suddenly discovered that weraing the right bra size stopped all the aches and pains in my shoulders and neck. Amazing.

Re labelling food. We're not too bad with our freezer but we've had a couple of funny incidents on the boat.
We used to store tins in the bilges as there was so little cupboard space.
I wrote in indelible pen on the top of every can what was in it. The bilges were always damp and the labels would come off.
But I did store things in particular places so in theory I knew what was where and hopefully not get things too mixed up.
Well once we got stuck out at sea as it was too rough to even contemplate going back into harbour up the very narrow, very shallow channel into Conwy.
So we chucked the anchor out to wait for the next tide and to see if the storm would abate.

It was late Sunday evening and we were out of fresh food (we only ever took enough fresh with us for the weekend) so I grabbed some tins to make a stew. Found some sweetcorn, found some green beans and what I though was a tin of chicken in white wine sauce.
Nowhere near gourmet food - but fine in an emergency as an instant meal served with pasta or rice (which we always has on board).
Unfortunately the chicken in white wine sauce turned out to be custard. :8855:
Now you tell me how I mislabelled that? So I opened a tin of custard in the hope that it was chicken and what did I find - more custard.
So I grabbed a tin of treacle sponge (well they are a VERY distinctive size and shape) and stuck it in a pan of boiling water to cook whilst we ate the sweetcorn and beans.
40 minute later I opened the treacle sponge to go with the 2 tins of custard (thankfully I like custard) and what did I find?
Treacle sponge thank gawd - so we didn't starve but it was a VERY odd meal.

We sat up all night to make sure the anchor didn;t drag as it was really rough.
We finally got onto our mooring at 8am, followed in by a few other boats who'd also ridden out a rough night at anchor in the bay.
Phoned both our bosses and said see you tomorrow and went to bed.
Oh the joys of yachting. I so miss it - but too old now to battle with sails and storms.
It's a young man's game and not for someone who is arthritic and finds it hard to move quickly round the deck

Didn't see the doc just the nurse and she was quite amazed.

Did get very nervous about the fitting..suffice to say it's the best laxative I've had for ages!! :D

The very thought of yachting fills me with terror... wouldn't do that even if I was paid!

Wednesday 7th August 2013

I was so seething this morning having logged in to the "Streetlife" site which is being run by a couple of councillors in this area and, having put in my views about "Mow & Grow" and their damaging my property as I have already posted on here the other day, M&G decided to put in a reply saying that " they would not have strimmed round my water butt as it stands on a pile of rubble (it's on a base of build up bricks surrounded by some paving slabs!) and that " the nylon cord of the strimmer would not have cut off a water butt tap" .. Really?! It's amazing just what a strimmer cord can cut! He also wrote that my "bird feeder had been lifted out of the way and carefully put back again" Not true as the bird feeder had been pinned to the ground by a couple of tent pegs.
It has made me even more determined to continue to badger them for some sort of compensation..This is not the first time by any means that they have painted a completely inaccurate picture of things... :argh:

Bra fitting was great and no bother at all getting one to fit..felt really uplifted by the whole experience..
Mistook the time again and had to dash out without having any lunch which put all my meal times way out. Stopped in at Debenhams for a cheese scone and a cuppa before coming home...anyway..delish scone and the tea was very good too.

Had to smile as on the way back to the car park I sat down for 5minson a bench and a young lady talking on the phone said that "people shouldn't be allowed in this country if they don't speak proper English"..and then went on to explain how to say "Bah!" ..No, not Baaa or Pa, she said! Bah as in BAR...Never heard it said like that before.. come to that, how many people actually say "Bah" !?!

Another day when I woke up very late.. but was up in the early hours again as well.
Got to hairdressers at 2.30pm to have my hair coloured and didn't come out until 4.45...think that was a very long time for that but pleased with the result.

Chatting with hairdresser and thought I might try going to a gym as there are a few bits of equipment that I could use which will not only help me strength-wise but will help in losing more weight.

Diet gone well.

Friday 9th August 2013

Another wakeful night..had breakfast really early and everything went okay but didn't really feel like going swimming this afternoon as feeling rather drowsy. Decided it was the best thing to do and I wanted to ask about joining their gym as well.
Did about 20 mins swim with the usual Jacuzzi and steam afterwards.
Got the forms for the gym and they said it would be quite okay for me to go..only £3.15 on a pay as you go basis.

Had a lamb shank that I put in the oven to slow cook...it was very delish altho' price wise it is rather expensive. Shank cost me about £4 and only enough meat for one meal.

Breakfast - Rankins Soda Bread 100g + Peanut Butter 30g
Lunch - Bread 1 slice + Butter + B.Beans 68g + Egg poached 1
Snack - Brazil Nuts 30g
Evening - Lamb 90g + Cabbage 100g + Carrot 80g + Gravy 20ml
Supper - Peaches in juice 100g + Crème Fraiche 50ml
Extra - Milk 180ml

You just be careful if you go to the gym.
Make sure you discuss carefully with them that you need exxercises that are not going to put any strain on your shoulders or back!
Even doing things like leg presses or butterfly presses (arm exercises) often make you tense your back muscles.

Glad you like your hair colour - mine always takes about 2 hours when I have it done professionally. About an hour if I do it myself (including blow dry etc).
