2015 and It's Now or Never!

Tuesday 20th May 2014

Another very hot day so I stayed indoors... didn't do much as my back was bad again.

Doctor phoned me yesterday morning to say that my heart scan showed a slight build up of "cholesterol" so he was putting me on some statins which I have refused to take for some time now. I will take them and see how I get on but I have enough aches and pains to contend with without taking tabs that are likely to exacerbate things.

My friend phoned and we had a nice chat... she said that it's such a shame that we can't meet up more regularly but she works very long hours looking after her grandchildren. Had a really nice chat which has lifted my spirits no end and given me some ideas of what to plan for the future.

Kept to a very good menu today.. in fact I really haven't eaten enough according to my allotted calorie intake.

Breakfast - Liberte Yogurt Blueberry 100g
Lunch - Bread 34g + Butter 6g + Vegetable Cup-a-soup
Snack - Cherries 25
Dinner - Salmon canned 100g + Salad + S.Cream 30g
Supper - Alpro Choc. Dessert 125g + Nak'd Cocoa Delight Bar 35g
Extra - Milk 240ml

Evening Em,

Yes, your calories were about 25% under your usual. Is your appetite affected by the heat?

How will statins affect your adversely? Everything I read makes them sound like miracle medications.

I think I'll be a bit cooler soon.

Morning Em!

Lovely and sunny here -- I'm going to work outside a bit. Sweep the patio and see about sorting some planters, etc.

Morning Emm,

Glad to read you had a nice chat with your friend.:)

Nice and sunny here.Going to sit out later with my camera and try to get some pics of baby birds.
First I'm off for a walk.Probably into town if weather stays like it is now.I really wanted a rainy day so I would get on with painting the airing cupboard as all the towels etc are looking a mess in the spare bedroom.:(

Statins certainly sort out cholesterol problems but they can have some pretty nasty side effects too.
My BIL is on huge doses of them (he has a genetic defect that means he can't regulate his own cholesterol level at all).
Have a look at the side effects here Side Effects
The worse ones for him are the sickness, dizziness and tiredness which are some of the more uncommon ones.
And to make matters worse they do affect his vision - which is one of the rare side effects.

Afternoon Mary, Quite a changeable day here and very humid.
Still very busy... I should think you'll be glad when it's all finished!

Afternoon Mel, Hope the planters turned out well.

Took the words out of my mouth Bev.. and the annoying thing is that so often they are prescribed on a "just in case" basis! IMO at my age a little bit of cholesterol build up is only to be expected and the fact that the NHS is in such dire situation I would have thought that sort of prescribing would be totally out of order especially when some people are being refused cancer treatments because of the cost involved.

Home help came today and we tried to get my computer desk glued together to make it more stable but unfortunately it didn't work so I shall have to get another one. I would have like a ready made type but they are all so big and I only have a very small area for it to go into so seems like it'll be another flat pack. Problem arose with this one because my son put it together and as he has little to no patience it was never done correctly and he ended up with at least a dozen screws over!

Evening Em,

I didn't get the planting done - I got side tracked scrubbing the patio furniture. But, it needs to be done.

Would this sort of table work better?

Looks nice and stable - but it doesn't look as though the mouse would be usable next to the keyboard and using one at the height of the monitor would be too high and could cause shoulder and back problems. A mouse should be located at about elbow height when your arms are tucked into your sides - any higher is too high.

Good points - this one is adjustable height and shows a mouse in use.

Afternoon Mel, agreed that Bev gives some good points.. fact is being so short I'm usually not at the right height etc... think that's something I should look into as that's not helping with my back problem.
Like the look of the desk and it does have a good adjustable height as well as enough room for the mouse but I do need a larger and higher shelf underneath for the printer.
I also don't want to pay very much for it as I am making (long term) plans to move as I discussed before.. otherwise I don't mind how much it costs.. within reason of course.
This is the one I think I shall get:

Buy Aspect Design Computer Desk with Two Storage Shelves from our Office Desks & Tables range - Tesco.com

Afternoon Em,

That one looks very good and it's a fab price.

Desk looks great Emm - but mouse will probably still be too high unless you can get it next to your kepboard.

I'm away now until 1st so I won't be around much until then. Speak later

Thanks Mel and Bev.. but now I've decided to get someone just to put some brackets on this one to strengthen it.. that will do me fine for now.

Thursday 22nd May 2014

Had a much better sleep and morning after going in my (real) bed last night.. determined to keep that up and have got rid of the table I had next to the settee too.

Have been trying to download the free Kaspersky from Barclays without success so I've finally admitted defeat and sent for the tech guy that does this for me... mind you it'll cost me £34+!! Anyway must get the security updated as it's been nearly 2weeks ago that it ran out... not good.

Been having some in depth reasoning on my fallout with my D and I can see now that it is all soo petty my continual grievance about she said this or that and it was something that she wrote to me that really made me sit up as she said "I feel like this naughty daughter than can never get anything right"! I think I was transferring all my pent up feelings from my continual battle with my mother over the years as she was schizophrenic and would say she had said things when she hadn't and vice-versa... and I was surprised and shocked that I was talking to my D like this... she's my D and not my mother and she's been an absolute stalwart over the years and I have so many things to be grateful to her for.
I am glad that I wrote it all on here as it has made me see it as it really is.
I now have to pluck up courage and do something about it.

Evening Em,

I battle my childhood, too. I guess we all do.

Your breakfast sounds delicious!

Good plan on the desk repair - might as well fix the one you like.

. . . I battle my childhood, too. I guess we all do.
I think a lot of us do. Mel & I have spoken about it, and I know you have been open about yours too Emm.
Life is not all "sweetness and light" and we just have to work out a way of dealing with it.
And that often isn't easy. Good luck Emm - you can do something about it

Just catching up a bit Em. What a thought provoking post. I hope you can clear the air with your daughter. xx

Afternoon Em!

Very wet here today. I guess the plants needed it - I hope it's nicer tomorrow and Monday.

Hi Mw.. Nice to see you again.

Afternoon Mel.. Really changeable here and lots of downpours!

Saturday 24th May 2014

Techy man came yesterday and put the security back on here.. cost was £65 altogether.
At least it's okay for another year plus all my fiddling about had made this work soo slow.

Really miserable day and now very overcast.

Printed a voucher for £10 off one of the surveys that I do. Put it on my window sill and then a bit later opened my window for some fresh air and saw it go floating out. Had a good look around downstairs but can't see it anywhere and the annoying thing is I've deleted the email that forwarded it and can't trace that either.

Food intake fairly good especially as I resisted eating all 4 of the cream scones I bought yesterday.

Breakfast - Liberte Strawberry Yogurt 100g
Lunch - Bread 31g + Cheese 29g & Asda Cream filled Fruit Scone 1
Dinner - Smoked Haddock Gratin + Cabbage 90g + Peas garden canned 100g
Supper - Digestive Biscuits 2
Extra - Milk 240ml

Evening Em,

Check your trash mailbox. It's probably still in there.
