Abi's weightloss diary - post jaw surgery

LOL, OK then love,

Morning Abz :) aw we all get like that, if the start of the day goes wrong it kinda makes the rest go out of the window :S Don't worry about it :) Hopefully you can have a couple of appointments next week then.

Hope you're having a better day today :) how is the nursery coming along?

Hey Abz... xx

me too, where are you abz?

i have just been out today :)

got weighed tonight. gained a lb :( nothing i've done so i guess it's bump beefing herself up. plus, i haven't really been eating properly since i was ill last week, not eating enough really, so i need to get back to that. gutted. but was expecting it to happen sooner or later. and it's only a lb...

abz, you're having a baby, of course you're going to gain some weight love. Good morning.

hey guys :) i know it is. it's only a lb. it will shift :)

peeved today because thomas's work has given him a letter saying that as he was off after the bank holiday sick they won't be paying him for the bank holiday unless he provides a sick note. given that he wasn't off for five days this means that we would have to pay for the sick note. i hate his company. they'll pull anything. just really glad that i sent him to the docs!!

That's terrible hun. Poor Thomas (and you). How you feeling today? Did you get the physio sorted? x x

That's true of many companies these days abz I'm afraid.

i didn't think it would be legal!! it's so silly because it means that he's going to have to go to the doc every time he's not well, which is such a waste of nhs time if it's something that doesn't require the doc. but if we need to be sure we can prove it... gah!!

It's PITA isn't it love.

Pain In The Arse abz

Even if he went to the GP lovie they are not allowed to supply a sick note on the NHS for days one - seven (inclusive) of days taken for sick. Only from day eight. (Obviously if you attend the GP on Day One and it is apparent that you are going to be unable to follow your occupation for more than eight days the GP is allowed to issue the note then i.e. leg in plaster for 12 weeks.)
However there is now (from 5th April 2010) only one certificate called 'Fit for Work' which replaces the Med 3 & Med 5. The GP can now complete these via a 'telephone consultation' if they so desire. Sick notes are not for the employer but for Department of Work & Pensions who re-imburse the employer for statutory sick pay.

We often tell the patients that if there employer wants a private sick note, they should be willing to pay some (if not all) of the cost as the Department of Work & Pensions expect self-certification by whatever means the company handbook states. Most contracts will state how you are required to notify the employer of sickness, check Thomas's contract for this info - you could get some money back:eek:

PS Tell me to wind my neck in if I'm being ott!

you aren't honey. and we've had problems with them before regarding this. and i've told thomas to tell them that they have his permission to get a company sick note if they so wish (so that they have to pay for it). but because it includes the bank holiday there seem to be rather a lot of loopholes as i don't think they have to pay him for these days by law. so at the end of the day if we have to pay £9 for him to get two day's pay then we will do. they've tried to make us do this before and i rang the company in a strop (amazing what being pregnant gives you the balls to do...) and sorted it out. and depending on what he tells me when he gets home they might be getting another one on monday. charming for them to tell us on the day he gets paid too, so we suddenly don't have the money we should have.
