Advice for the PrawnchopSuey

It does infuriate me how they can have a go at you for how overweight you are.....surely the fact that your losing weight is a positive and they should be encouraging you, comments like that could push some people into stress binge eating etc
My BMI is far far higher than yours and I've been lucky to have been on the receving end of very positive comments....grrrr doctors!

To be fair to the doctor, it is the first time I've ever seen him as last year I had only just registered with the practice and saw a locum. And he did try to smooth it over by saying ' you don't look overweight.... but actually you are'.

But the locum didn't even weigh me last year but I caught sight of my notes on the screen today and there was just a note written '18/08/09 OBESITY'. I think that upset me more than the doctor today because that just got written on my notes without any discussion with me about my weight or whether I was considering losing weight or what support was available, or even the locum doctor telling me to my face I was obese and needed to lose weight. And I think that's quite rude but it's also quite upsetting that to a medical professional I was that obviously obese that he didn't even need to weigh me :(

Righr, let's get burning some calories... Going to do my Steps DVD now, then watch the second half of Grand Designs ('cos I love it!!)

Oh how I just love medical people getting at me about my weight  Tis one of the reasons I want to lose weight, so I'm at a healthy BMI. Hopefully by the time I go to my next heart check-up I will almost be at target!!
Don't let it get to you. Just let it boost your commitment to SW :D

It infuriates me how medical people can make comments like that, as Claire said it could completely push you the totally wrong way.
I've been lucky as most nurses/docs are ok with me and when they're not they do tend to be quite subtle.
What also annoys me is that they stick to BMI to the letter - I don't believe in BMI. I'm quite heavy for my size and when I get to a size 12 (which I think is a perfectly healthy size) I know I'll still be in the overweight range, but I will be happy.
Sometimes it pays to look at someones size rather than just take their weight as the one and only factor. Reminds me of stories you read in the paper where perfectly healthy looking children are pulled up by school nurses as they are classed as overweight

And looking at your pic honey, you sure don't look overweight to me so pah to the docs!!
Grrrrr.... ok rant over.

medics - schmedics....

Thanks :)
I am actually not usually one to moan about doctors, because my mum is a doctor and I know how much crap she puts up with every day!! I guess it was just a shock to realise how far I do still have to go until I am a healthy weight when I was just feeling all smug about getting to Club 10! Better crack on with the plan :)

Battery died today on the Slendertone!! Will have to stock up on the weekend... Having a night off from exercise to save myself for badminton tomorrow ;)

Have prepared a sweet potato curry which I am going to slow cook tomorrow while I am at work - ding ding, round 2 with the slow cooker ;)

It's funny as I was looking on the NHS BMI website and it says that I am still on the overweight part. At the moment I'm fitting into mostly size 12's. Wonder what size I'll have to be to get into a Healthy BMI!

That's OK Kat, you can double post a woohoo anytime ;)
:banana dancer:Hee hee, thanks Donna, that picture always makes me chuckle.

Also, went to the doctor for annual pill prescription and got a serious-toned mention about how overweight I am which upset me a bit, as I've never had a telling off before, even at nearly 2 stone heavier!

Makes me determined to be a healthy BMI this time next year when I have to go back - 2 stone to go :)

hope you told your gp how well you are doing on sw? bloody cheek, was gp the picture of health? Even when I was at my heaviest did my gp (and he is male and v outspoken) ever make me feel guilty for my weight, in fact I have been trying to think of a reason to visit him so he can see how well i am doing lol!

ps i love my banana dancer, that's the look i am aiming for when i hit target, oh and i have always wanted a wonder woman outfit lol

Thanks Donna -nice to have you back on a more regular basis, hope things are getting less stressful at home :)

Recipe was:

Frylight fry one large onion for 5 mins until soft.

Add 1tsp ground cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric and half tsp crushed red chillis. Oh and 2 cloves finely chopped garlic.
Add 300g diced sweet potato and 400g (ish - 1 tin) chopped toms - cook for 2 minutes.

Add 400g ish lentils (1 tin) and 300ml veg stock, and bring to the boil. Season well.

Bung in slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours.

Then the recipe says to add 6 boiled eggs (halved) and a load of double cream and put lid back on for 15mins... But I think I'm going to add some spinach instead of eggs and stir in some fromage frais just before serving so it doesn't curdle.

I probably should wait to see what it tastes like before posting the recipe!!! Watch this space :)

That sounds really scrummy, can't wait to hear how it was

Suey - I've just realised we must have the same slow cooker recipe book as your 2 recipes are in there!
My fave two recipes in there are:
Pork, orange and star anise - really tasty
Lamb rogan josh (my top top curry recipe - usually use beef)
Just thought I'd share!
