Day 18.....putting myself out there

Thanks ladies, your support and encouragement is very much appreciated.

So, I have two birthday celebrations coming up. One this Saturday at a local pub and the other the following Saturday in a Football Club. I'm not going to panic about this. I told a friend last night that I would be driving as I WON'T be drinking, so I am responsible for getting myself plus 4 others to and from the pub. That way I won't be tempted to just 'have the one glass of wine'. Sorted. I shall do the same for the following week's party :D I am not going to fret about this. I have made the decision. I won't be the one waking up feeling like sh*t the following morning.

I got into bed last night and for some reason started thinking about Barn Dances and what a laugh they are. I haven't been to one in years. I came into work this morning and my colleague was dressed in checked shirt, tan coloured skirt, boots. Spooky, she looked the part for a Barn Dance. This reminded me about my thoughts last night. So I have put myself out there and have suggested to the powers that be that I organise one to be held on our meadow at work in the summer.

Marquee, band, barbecue, the works. This would raise money for our charity - Naomi House Children's Hospice and bring everyone together for a much needed laugh. Work and life in general is so depressing right now. I may get shot down in flames, or I may get the go-ahead and it turn out to be an unmitigating disaster but, sod it. I'm going to try. I'll let you know how it all goes.

Have a fab day all xx

Yee-ha! Sounds brilliant Chels, hope it happens!

Wow, sounds like a really great idea Chelsea, plus burning some calories whilst dancing too....

Well done on your 3lb loss, sounds brilliant to me, keep up the good work!!

Hi Chels --

Sounds like a Brill plan. You could contact the charity and ask premission to use their name (letterhead) etc. when you solicit donations. You might be able to get sponsored for the marquee, tables, chairs, etc. rental, get some food donated for the BBQ, get hay bales lent from a local farmer, and so forth.

I did this kind of letter writing every year for Cub Scout Day Camp -- and it was amazing what people, business, and other organizations would provide.

Hi Mel,

My company already are heavily linked with this particular charity so using their logo etc wouldnt be a problem at all. We can get the marquee for peanuts and colleagues will donate their time to help set up and organise on the day. The funds will come from the ticket sales and we'll get local business on board for raffle prizes etc. People are very generous when given a little shove (kick) lol xx

Day 18 These things are sent to try us!!

I had a half day from work today and spent a few hours in the afternoon with DD2 and her twin girls. They are such little characters, so all good.

Left there at 3:00pm so I could go home and finally sort out utilities direct debits and other paperwork.

The Electricity/Gas company said that the meter readings didnt add up from the final reading the landlord gave them back in November, so basically we started off with him (maybe) falsifying the meters so I pay for gas and electric that someone else has used. Hrrrrmph. Not happy with that. We took the current readings and the guy is going to ring next Tuesday with that day's readings in order to gauge my usage. I tackled landlord and he ummed and arred (?) and said he would get back to me. I am still awaiting his call. I also explained about my key snapping in the stiff lock and the £80+ it cost to get a new lock and keys. He was more worried that he didnt have a key to gain access for inspection. I did point out to him that any inspection would carry with it a 24 hour notice period. Now I am worried about that!! He could demand a key, probably will but how do I know that he is not just turning up as and when he feels like it when I'm not here? I've rented in the past and this has always been sorted out by Letting Agents that manage the property. They have always done everything by the book, so this is a new one for me.

Also it occurred to me that I have had no notification that my deposit is sitting in a Deposit Scheme, which I think is a legal requirement, so totally pi$$ed off at the moment and have that awful feeling that I am going to get trouble with this man. It would be a great shame as I like it here and thought he was a nice person. Anyway, will wait to see what he says when he comes back to me..........if he does.

Nearly 7pm and only two shakes down. Not tempted, despite the stress, to go and find some food. Dick is lurking though. Kick a Dick time methinks.

Hope you are all well girls. Speak later xxx

Don't want to read and run, just to say hang on in there Chels... don't panic over landlord either, wait and see how it turns out. Enjoy that last shake, stay strong kick Dick where it hurts.

Hi Chels --

When I had to have a new lock refitted and the owner's mother who was acting as his agent demanded that I give her a key (I wanted to send one to him -- I did not trust her). I finally had one made -- for which she never paid me as she said she would and it was 5 pounds.
After the fact, my neighbour said that I should have given her a "wrong" key. If she came when I was there she wouldn't need it, and is she tried it when I wasn't home -- she could not admit it.

Do that -- make a good extra key (so you can say oops-- and accidentally give him a wrong one).

Thanks Mel and Katy,

I understand that he will want to inspect every 3 months, with an arrangement being made first with me, so that I am at home for this, its the thought he could come round when I am out, so a false key would be an option. However, looking at the internet, it would seem that he is entitled to a key but has no right of access unless an arrangement has been made first or in the case of an emergency.

As for the gas/electric/rental deposit, still waiting for him to call me back....ho hum! I've just got a horrible feeling but will try to chill over it and see what unfolds.

Always something to worry about.....grrrrrr lol

xx

Did I ever tell you my landlord is the most honest and kind landlord ever?

Eating a bit of (hypothetical) humble pie here.......not REAL pie lol.

He phoned to say that he had spent a long time trying to contact the electricity company to no avail. Once we went through some stuff together, I realised that the sheet of paper he had given me that I took the readings off, were for contact details of the utilities and that the readings on there bore no relation to me. The check-in readings were on another sheet that we both signed, my copy is .........somewhere around *blushes* so hence the mix-up and he is not trying to pull a fast one. He also said that he was going to bring round my Deposit paperwork, which had been lodged in the protection scheme (I hadn't mentioned this, so I know this was genuine) he also said that they only needed a key, and was their right, to gain access in an emergency and any checks would be made with 48 hour notice period. Ha ha, gives me a decent chance to have a tidy up :D I feel really bad now for jumping to the wrong conclusions. Naughty Chels, I'm going to smack my own bottom and send me to bed early:D xx

Fantastic on the 3lbs Chels - just brilliant!!
I was getting all worried for you about your landlord problems and am so glad to see that you have it all sorted out now! xx

Glad it all worked out, Chels.

Yay for Mr Nice Landlord, such a relief.

Progress I think...... a while ago I would have used all that stress and doubting him to have given me the green light to gorge. It didn't occur to me to do that. How wonderful? Please, please please does this mean I am on my way to being set free from this endless bloody cycle? Hope so. :D

Beck: Giving yourself credit. Go Chels!!!
