Em's diary

So, it was a pretty hectic weekend all in all. Cooking for saturday's meal on friday night and then pretty much spent all of saturday on my feet in the kitchen. The meal went down a storm, everyone really enjoyed it, though i was naughty and had a couple of mouthfuls of the cheesecake (and a glass or two of wine). Fortunately I haven't put anything on since my WI on saturday, and after some thinking I reckon I had such a good WI as I had dinner related missions in town every day last week, so did a fair bit of walking. Am going to try and keep it up this week (have been out today) but it will depend a bit on the weather.

Thought a couple of PP days were in order after saturday night, so yesterday was:
Cinnamon galette, half a roast chicken, 1 fillet smoked mackerel, couple each gherkins & pickled onions, v small bowl greek yogurt.

Today is likely to be:
B: Half cinnamon galette
L: 1 meatloaf muffin, 2 fillets smoked mackerel
S: rest galette
D: 200g mince in rosemary & mint meatball format with quark mint dip
S: sweetened greek yogurt

I'm really glad you're enjoying the mooching... great site indeed and I don't think we've had any nasty surprises (the OH is in charge of that side of things, mind).

Your dinner party sounds lovely and the way you handled yourself is fab. That's what "real life" is all about, being able to cope in social occasions, and compensate before and after with (say) walking extra, cutting back somewhat. That will stand you in good stead for your "after Dukan" life.

Wish I lived closer. I'm a HUGE banofee pie fan...

(I wonder if my yoghurt cake with banana flavouring might taste anything like it?)

I must buy some celeriac to try... I don't think I've ever eaten it.

The meatloaf muffins are great DD, handy and portable, and cook in half the time of a large meatloaf.

Jo, the mooching is amazing - I've had 3 requests already, and the cheesecake was amazing. Had some sweet cravings over the last couple of days though, you never realise how addictive sugar is do you? Hope I am preparing myself for life 'after' as it were, I so want this to be the last diet I do and I'm so determined to get the last bit off as quickly as i can. You should definitely try the celeriac - I have one left over from the weekend so might make chips with it tomorrow as I'm making it a PP day.

B: half cinnamon galette
L: half chicken and mushroom frittata (made with 3 eggs)
S: rest of galette
D: 280g turkey luc lac with celeriac chips

Remind me Em... do you parboil the celeriac before using it for chips or crisps...? Should I see such a beast on my market walk on Saturday, I really ought to get one...

I parboil for 2 mins after cutting into chips, then toss in a little curry powder. Spray with some frylite and bake. I give mine an hour to get them well done.

wish i could get celeriac round here will have to wait till i go to Barnstaple see if they are a bit more adventerous with their veg !!!

It's definitely one to keep for occasions I think. Probably had too many chips yesterday and was windy city round here last night!

B: half cinnamon galette
L: half chicken and mushroom frittata with 2 slices smoked salmon
S: rest of galette
D: Half roast chicken & 10 mint 7 rosemary meatballs (170g ish mince)
S: sweetened greek yogurt

Glad the dinner went well! I have had more celeriac tonight but mashed with a little squash. The squash completely overpowered the taste but the texture was good.

I can almost taste that cheesecake!!!

Thank you... and for crisps?

There's an idea... then fry lite and bake! I'm so not a potato person, even in EAT mode, so making a chip substitute isn't really interesting to me... but having Dukan friendly nibbles while others eat peanuts is!

In eating mode I like beetroot crisps and sweet potato crisps, sweet potato is obv out but beetroot might work for an occassional crisp too....

I have made crisps in the past and it seems such a lot of effort for very little bulk product in the end!.

and so all we have to do is use a potato peeler on whichever veg, spray fry lite, and cremate in the oven (oh that end bit is what will probably happen to mine!)?

Yep! I have a gadget of course - but it still isn't a particularly fruitful task :)

Mouse has a gadget.

You know what? Given our earlier subject of conversation I think that, for once, I'm lost for words!

I'd love to try some crisps but am deterred by the work:result ratio, perhaps one to try on a lazy weekend with not much else on the cards.

I was the victim of cat theivery yesterday - cooked meatballs for dinner, then some more for today's lunch which I put on the side to cool. Stepped out of the kitchen for 5 minutes and returned to find one guilty looking cat with 2 meatballs on the floor in front of her and another two with bites gouged out still on the plate, out of 10 meatballs she'd managed to destroy 40% of today's lunch!

Thanks to Anja's 'grown up' water bottle tip i can now monitor how much i'm drinking at work and was very surprised to see I'd managed 2l at work today. Don't know if it was the novelty of having a new bottle but was quite impressed.

B: half cinnamon galette
L: 6 meatballs, 1 fillet smoked mackerel
S: rest galette
D: 200g garlic prawns, 1 fillet smoked mackerel, 1 beef meatloaf muffin (1/6 of 50g mince)
will probably add a bowlful of sweetened greek yogurt later on.

Phew I started to read that and thought for an awful moment someone had stolen your cat :D Thank goodness it was only your lunch - although you must have been fuming!! My cats don't really touch meat but I have found the little one licking up my omlette mix - don't know why he has a thing about raw egg!!
