Evening chica. Thank heavens your night shifts are over and you've got a few days respite.
Can I ask a question about your car? Don't answer if you don't want to publically. Possibly send me a PM?
You say that you "lease" it. What does that cost? What does it cover? For how long? And do you ever own any of it?
Might be just the solution for my mum. Who is obviously getting older and doesn't want to buy again.
Hi Bev,
Yes I've been 'leasing' cars for over 6 years now- The Juke is my fourth! Basically it's just like hiring a car but for a long period, usually 2 or 3 years! You never own it, but because of that you don't 'own' the depreciation or the problems that come with cars!! The philosophy is 'if it appreciates, buy it, if it depreciates, lease it'!! I know by doing it this way I'm always paying out, but many of my friends have loans for cars anyway so they never really own theirs as they're looking to change them after they've paid off the loan anyway!! Either that or they have older cars and they're paying out left, right and centre on having things fixed etc!! I live in the sticks so reliability is everything, and I'm the kind of person who gets bored easily and likes changing my car!!
I've always used the following website (see link) which is a comparison site listing hundreds of cars and hundreds of lease companies. It's good to be open minded about the type of car you want because the special offers vary! I got an excellent deal on my Juke when I signed the contract a few weeks ago, but the price has gone up a bit now, and it could go up hugely in another few weeks, whilst another model of another make may come up as a great deal!! They change constantly, depending on the stock levels held by different dealerships!
Basically I'm paying £191 per month (incl VAT) for 2 years. I had to put down £1150 deposit and then there will be 23 payments of £191. The inital payment varies- This is the first time I've had to pay such a hefty deposit though- I've noticed that a lot of the deals are now on a 6+23 month, or 6+35 month basis, whereas they were all 3+23/3+35 deals when I previously searched for cars! In theory the more deposit you pay the less the monthly payments are, but I'm not sure that this is always the case!! Tax is included in the price- they send tax discs through the post. You have to pay for tyres and services, and insurance as you would if you were the reg. owner. I also have a 10, 000 mile per annum restriction and I pay a few pence per mile if I exceed it! Dai also has a lease car and he requested a 15, 000 limit as he does more mileage than I do. So this obviously alters the price. I noticed that some companies were offering reduced prices for cars on a 5-6,000 mile basis (good for elderly people who don't go far!!) They do a credit check and also ask for bank statements when you apply.
Hope this is helpful to you hun!! It suits me perfectly- there are so many ways to get cars, and I've come to realise there is no cheap way!!XXX

Tip- select 'personal leasing' and all the prices displayed (in red) will be inclusive of VAT.
Having a quick peek I see that there are some good deals on small cars such as Fiat 500, Citroen C1 and Kia Picanto at the moment- less than £150 per month, with varying mileage restrictions and varying deposit payments X
