It's Now Or Never

How are you doing chica? Pooh to the gain as well.
Sorry not to have been on here - hubs now home and being very "demanding"!

Hey hey chicas. Well it's all been very up and down (mostly down) with my food. I saw my psychiatrist chappy last Friday (yes all that still going on) and he wants to me to track calories and try to aim for 1500 a day as well as keep up with SW. The reason being he wants to know I really have made a concerted effort, in something I guess he can measure, before he takes me off meds. He doesn't want to take me off meds if they aren't causing any weight issues, as obviously they are doing other things. But he also thinks part of my weight issues this past year may be linked to the meds. My gut feel is that it is the emotional response and that i still have a long way to go on that front.

So, today I made a real effort. I didn't go to weigh in - mostly because I just couldn't fit everything in and I have another early start for Coventry again in the morning. The psych wants me to track calories for the next two months. So I figured my approach would be to do that, but based around Slimming World. I think it might lend itself to a Success Express approach. I'll write today's food down in a bit so you can see the sort of thing I'm going for. Calorie counting and SW don't really go hand in hand - but it might be an interesting exercise in the sheer amount of food I eat. Today I ate an awful lot less, but didn't feel hungry. In fact, I had factored in a banana milkshake this evening but just couldn't fit it all in.

Breakfast:
100gm fruit
Shape 0 yoghurt
35g branflakes (HEb)
Cup of tea with soya milk (0.5 syns)

Large skinny latte (HEa)

Lunch:
Lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot, mixed pulses, 3 tbspns red pepper BGTY humous (4.5 syns)

Snack:
Large skinny latte (7.5 syns)

Dinner:
Thai green curry with cod (cod, green beans, broccoli, onions, lemongrass, fish sauce, fish stock, thai green curry paste - 1 syn, coconut milk - 8 syns), 60g dry weight brown rice.

Total syns: 21.5 syns

So interesting, it totted up to over 15 syns, or even my temporarily allowed 20 syns. But actually amounted to 1309 calories. Funny, because I don't feel like I've been naughty, as I'm within the suggested calorie intake. There is plenty of superfree in there too. Now normally I'd have made the thai green curry with light coconut milk, but I only had full fat in the cupboard and just wanted to get rid. There are three more portions made which are in the freezer. That dish in itself isn't an issue - maybe next time watch the extra latte perhaps. (If I hadn't had that, I'd have been within the 15 syns). Could do with saving the cash too to be honest.

Another good thing over the past week or so, is that I've started walking to/from work again. I had stopped from mid November as my ankle injury just made it too painful to walk more than a few yards. So that means my life won't be quite as sedentary as it has been over the past couple of months. I have to say, it feels so nice just to be out and getting some fresh(ish) air.

Be interesting to see how working SW alongside calorie counting works. I don't think it should be a major issue, as the superfree foods are relatively low in calories anyway. But either way - I've got to really give myself a kick up the backside and stick with it for a bit too. It's maintaining it that seems to be my problem - I've lost all my will power!

Anyhoo - thanks for popping by chicas - and GinLin - lovely to see you again!!!

Will post an update tomorrow. Am in bed now and getting ready to crash before my early start, day in Coventry and a lot of pressure with work at the moment. All go go go!

xx

Evening chica.

What are you using to track your calories? My Fitness Pal seems to be the favoured one and it seems to be pretty accurate.
1300 ish seems pretty low looking at what you have eaten - especially as is was full-fat coconut milk as this is normally high in calories (but worth it imho - the low fat stuff is pants).

I know a few people who are actually doing SW in combination with CC. They all say it teaches then an awful lot about portion size - especially if they want to stick to 1500 cals pd. So many people do seem to realise that their portions are on the big size and it does mean that it is therefore fairly hard to have good losses on SW. Also the snacking aspect of SW - even if on superfree stuff - adds lot of calories.

You can do this chica - anti-d's do sometimes affect people in terms of weight loss. But if they aren't affecting your weight then it may be worth sticking with them if you think they are helping.

You are right! I'd only put in 100ml across the recipe, not the actual 400ml. Still only 350cals for that meal though and 1400 across the day.

That's a very interesting point about the portion sizes and I'm glad you say others are successfully managing the two approaches. Just looking at today, it does make me think that striking a balance between the two could see my optimum losses. We shall see. There's hope for me yet!

Yes I'm using My Fitness Pal. So I can log any exercise too (so my net calories are actually 1126 lol). It's really easy to use too.

A further thought on this calorie counting malarkey. It illustrates why the principles of Slimming World work. I know we all know etc, but it kind of empirically sets it out for you.

Oh and I do love numbers..... lol
Exactly - everyone I know who did CC with SW kick started themselves and got some good losses in the first few weeks.
Oh - and I love numbers too but have to say I could not be ar$ed with putting it all into MFP.
I did try for a few days but working out exactly how much of all the veg was was in my homemade soup was a reet royal pain!
But it was quite enlightening to see just how many cals there were in things I was scoffing (like crisps & nuts).
Like 10 almonds might be a HEx portion but it adds 70 cals to your count. It was one of the things that made me stop snacking realising just how much extra I was shovelling in.

I know SW isn't supposed to be about calories - but at the end of the day it is. It's just a quick way of controling your cals.
The only way to lose weight is to eat less calories than you burn.

Have you ever read these 2 freds - you only really need to read the forst post
SW FAQs
NEWBIES
They make a lot of sense and there are some good thought provoking topics in the Newbies fred.

Off to the apartment now and won't be back until Friday.

With you on lots of points Pinkie!

Since reaching target, or actually even through my long journey, I never stuck to SW strictly, just foodwise and drank wine as I pleased, it worked, and still works, although I have to say some days...o,k. most days aren't to any particular plan, but in the calorie world really aren't bad.

Hey Pomette - thank you for that post and for looking the Freds. You've got so much on your plate right now too!
I do hope I'll see some good losses at first - and even if I don't continue it, it could be a good tool to use during periods where weight loss slows down. I'm getting ahead of myself there though lol You're right about the snacking. Today I'd have easily had another apple and banana. All OK on SW, but because of the calories I didn't - and I survived quite happily so obviously didn't need them either!

I think I have seen those Freds in the past btw - but interesting to read them again. I really like the point they both make about eating syns - that equates to 2100 calories a week, and you'd need to eat nearer 3500 a week to put on a pound. I've never thought of it like that before.

You won't see this - and I will post on yours, but have a good time at the apartment - I hope it does his highness some good. And you too - hope he gets off your back and you can relax a bit too. xx

Ah yes - drinking your syns - that never ceases to make me laugh. I was thinking today about how different alcofrols would sit with me in a calorie world. I'm a vodka girl, so not too badly I think! :) I guess if your calories aren't too bad and you're maintaining then it shows that you've cracked the types and amounts of food you should be eating at a healthy weight. Oh I how dream for such sense! :)

Anyhoo, today's food. Well crikey I've been good again!!! Calorie intake 1,441.

Breakfast:

2 apples, 1 banana, medium latte (HEb)

Snack:

Apple

Lunch:
My lovely salad again - lettuce, beetroot, 2 tomatoes, cucumber, mixed pulses, humous (4.5 syns). Mixed berries for after.

Snack on way home from Coventry: medium latte (7 syns)

Tea:
Chilli (lean beef mince, peppers, onions, celery, tomatoes, passata, seasoning). Salad leaves.

Total syns: 11.5

Now I could have a couple of alpen light bars as I've not had my HEb. That would be on SW plan, but would take me over my calories (no more than 1500). I'm happy to do that short term, as I know I've eaten plenty of veg and I'll have my HEb. I did buy Alpen Light bars for my trip to Cov today, but managed to forget them, and the Sainsburys Local didn't stock them annoyingly. Either way though - if I ate them now it would be 'for the sake of it' rather than because I'm hungry. So good not to have them then! :)

I could really do with going to bed early again (been awake since 4.30 this morning) - but the buns need to have some time to run around and we've only been in an hour. Poor little bubbas. I'll give them till 10:00 then I will give in. At least I am on a half day homeworking tomorrow- before a return trip to Cov on Thursday.

Not too sure what my food plan tomorrow is. I really fancy a shish kebab actually - so I will keep check of my syns/calories during the day and treat myself in the evening perhaps. Oh the excitement!

Night all and happy SWing x

Worked from home today - so my first day at home and doing this new CC/SW regime. Was absolutely fine - I didn't get breakfast as I woke up late then had various work calls etc to make. However, I think I've done OK - and it's pretty balanced.

I also had another physio appointment today - he said if I keep making the progress I am, I should be able to start running again in about a month. Can't at present - so just walking etc. Am trying to walk as much as possible now that I'm on a roll.

I have lots of work to do today still, so quick food update.

Breakfast:
Zilch.

Lunch:
Ham, mushroom and spinach omelette (made with 3 eggs).

Snack:
Apple
2 x alpen light bars (HEb)

Dinner:
Large chicken and lamb mixed shish kebab with salad and pitta (8 syns)

350ml soya milk in tea throughout the day (HEa)

Total syns: 8
Total cals: 1386

I still have some milk left so I'll probably slurp on that this evening in tea whilst working.

It really is interesting thinking about these calories. Now that food today probably looks ample to most people. By my SW standards though I'd normally have quaffed a load more fruit. The fact that I haven't and that I have felt fine though shows that I was eating when I really didn't need to. I have still had plenty of Superfree throughout the day though - albeit not enough to call it Success Express I think. I feel physically better, in that I don't feel bloated etc. Amazing how just a couple of days of following plan can have that effect on you. There's nothing coming up that should present a problem - going to Coventry always used to be a challenge, but I've been fine on the two days I've been up this week. I'm intending on preparing my humous/beetroot salad again tomorrow and I will get my alpen light bars out now so that I don't forget them this time! If I keep up like this, there is a danger I may even look forward to weigh in this week. Hopefully I didn't put on too much last week. I feel a bit for my Consultant too sometimes. She's the sort that really wants everyone to do well - and I feel a bit bad when I go in with my bad news each week and keep asking her to reset my starting weight. Hey ho - it's her job and all that I know.

Anyhoo, back to work I go with my cup of tea (I'm getting addicted again!). Oh and a sneezy bunny. I thought it was a hay allergy, but she seems particularly bad atm - and she was upstairs a while and it all kicked off again with a huge sneezing fit. I shouldn't laugh but her little flippety floppety ears flying around all over the place when she sneezes is funny. Plus then she has a good clean afterwards, which is nothing short of double cute.

Night all - happy SWing chicas!

xx

Wonder if bunny has an allergy to feathers? One of my cats did. Every time she managed to get into the bedroom and get on our feather duvet she sneezed like mad - and got runny eyes too. Classic allergy and our vet pi$$ed himself laughing when I told him and just told us to lock her out of the bedroom. As if !!! She worked out how to jump up, grab the door handle and open the bleddy door!

Don't worry about looking up the freds. I have them book marked and go and read them every few weeks to kick me back into plan!

Anyway, your food is looking good. Just think, if you stick to the 1500 cals with fewer snacks just think how much you might lose thsi week !!!

Go for it girl.

Feathers - a possibility. Dust in the hay aggravates her. She has always been a bit sneezy and I worry about her as she's so little and was very poorly a month or so back. She's fine generally though. A proper little madame in fact.

Back to work - have a ton to do. :-(

Finished work just after 11. Couldn't fall asleep till gone 1, paged at 4. Today's jaunt to Cov (which I won't leave till gone six) is going to be fun hey?

Food all prepped and packed though.
Pants to the sleep - are you driving or going by train?

All clean and tidy and clients in and settled. Just about to go and tackle some ironing though. 10 lots of pure cotton bedding to do.

4 down, 6 to go
Got bored after doing the singles so 4 lots is actually 8 fitted sheets, 8 duvet covers and 16 pillow cases.
At least the 6 that are left are all doubles so only 6 fitted sheets, 6 duvet covers and 24 pillow cases!
