JanD's Maintenance Diary. Week 15 onwards

Hi Anne-marie .... what a lovely post - thank you very much. For some reason the 'thanks' button isn't showing on this thread

I sometimes have mixed feelings about 'baring all' - I wonder whether it might be better to just say 'I've lost it' or whatever .... and I have done that now and again. Somehow though 'confessing' to everything makes it seem more real - I can't hide and I have to be accountable.
It's difficult because it seems to me like I'm the only one who pops a bite of cheese or someone's leftover chips or crust off their bread in my mouth. I read what other people have had and it's literally their 3 meals and maybe a snack. I feel inadequate and it would be a lot easier to 'forget' those things, but ultimately I wouldn't be being honest and maybe that's where I've come unstuck in the past - trying to fool myself!!?

So what you see is what you get  - I'm glad someone finds it useful anyway!! :) xx

Well i plan on baring all from next week onwards(dats wen i start refeed) so you will have a buddy who will share wen they have some cheese etc. I really believe the way your doin it is very healthy etc and it works for you some people dont feel confortable sharing. Watever works for the individual is wats important. I think for me being able to be truthful will help me stay on track even wen i slip up.

You have no idea how much you help you are always mentioned as someone who has succeeded and as someone to be followed.

Its amazing how you regain control. And im sure everything you have gained on holiday will be in the past very soon main thing is you enjoyed yourself. xxxx

Glad you enjoyed your holidays Jan. Great to have you back and looking forward to seeing your pics.

Hope you manage to catch up with your sleep tonight.

Thats the one thing i admire most about you Jan - your honesty!!!

Glad you had a good time :) xxxxxx

Had a loooooooong lie-in today, till about 12.30pm. Then I just pottered about, unpacking, washing etc.

About 2.30 I had a John West snack-lunch thingy. I had a couple in to take to work in emergencies and as I haven't shopped yet there wasn't much choice! It was okay but there wasn't much of it.

This evening we had salmon, baked in the oven with dill & roasted courgette, tomatoes & mushrooms which DH picked up on his way home.

I'll have to shop on my way home in the morning but that's what I get for being so lazy today :)

Went to Mum's before work, had 4 jelly beans and a banana

I've brought a maintenance bar to work with me. I've only got one more - again that was something I'd planned to do today as I took 10 away with me and had 9 of them for breakfasts ... well I didn't want to fall into the 'American breakfast' trap!!

So all in all and assuming I don't succumb to any temptation - a good first day back 'on the wagon'!! :):)

I don't know what kind of damage I've done - I'm not going near the scales yet!! xxx

Edited to add - 2 teaspoons of Asda sour cream & chives dip and a plum.

Sounds like a great first day back on it :D
And bloody well done for not succumbing to the American Breakfasts - i wouldnt have been that strong! :giggle: :) Glad you had a lovely time - are you planning to go back? x

P.s .... guna try send you a chicken on farmville :D hehe

Ha ha - great ta! Can't seem to buy 'em and I want to fill my coop LOL!!
I'd love to go back to Frisco but wouldn't want to go to Vegas again ... just an ageing hippie at heart  xx

Ah really - so you didnt like vegas much?x

Great first day back Jan - but you have got me craving a jelly bean now. Well done on not having the yanks breakfast, like Tanya, I cant say I would have been that strong myself.

Ageing hippy - lol, you make me laugh.

HaHa .... 'fraid it's true .... I am quite a bit new agey ... or in my case old agey, lol.

For me Vegas was a once was enough type place. I know people go time and time again but I don't really understand why unless they're hardened gamblers or are after the 'other' things Sin City has to offer ;) (iykwim;)). I loved seeing the bright lights and bringing CSI to life LOL but you can only do that once imho. The oppulence and grandeur is almost obscene and the seedy side is literally obscene ;).For me it was 'been there, done that' but DH really liked it and wanted to go again. When my son (travel agent) came up with some offers he jumped at them and I went along for the ride but LURVED Frisco!! :)

Ended up being a little off track this morning. I had the crust off a danish white loaf at my mother's (Yes with clover - sorry!), a knifeful of coleslaw and a small cookie. Then went to tescos on my way home and coz I'd had that I didn't have the breakfast I'd planned, had a slimfast snackbar instead. If you looked at the calories I think it probably would have been about even with what I'd planned but it obviously wasn't at all healthy!

After being in bed, for tea we had lamb shoulder shanks, which I'd done in the slow cooker with a tin of tomatoes, leek & mushrooms, with a bit of wholewheat pasta.
Later I had 2 tablespoons of ff from frais with some sugar free jelly crystals.

I've brought my last maintenance bar to work together with the usual 2 x 500ml bottles of sparkling water.

I sneaked on the scales when I got up tonight and it's looking like about a 2-3lb gain. With what I'd put on before I went away, I need to lose about 5-6lbs to get back to where I want to be - which is around 10st 3or4lbs.

I'm not too bad with that, but I'll have a better idea on monday when I see what I am after 3 'good' (ish) days. I'm guessing it might take me another 2 or 3 weeks because I don't want to try to drop it quickly, rather gradually. xx

Edited to add - a slice of ham and a kiddies fruit & oat bar (54cals) before left work.

Sunday 15th November

Breakie - Maintenance choc whip, then had half a piece of bread with spoonful of egg & bacon sandwich filler on half and houmous on the other half (no spread)

Bed all day

Tea - Lightly crumbed baked river cobbler and stir fried veg. 2 tablespoons ff from frais with some sugar free jelly crystals.

Work - I've run out of maintenance bars so I've brought a salad with a small tin of pilchards in tomato sauce and a plum (already eaten the plum & it's only 1am but hey .... ;))

When I bought the river cobbler in tescos yesterday I realised it probably isn't the one Mary is recommending. Last time I got it, it was the only one they had so I assumed it was. This time they also had just plain fillets and smoked fillets as well as these lightly dusted ones. Had those pieces been as big as the dusted ones I probably would have tried them, but they were really quite small. They were quite a bit less in calories ... understandably as they don't have the breadcrumbs on them. I believe they were about 145 a fillet whereas the ones I got were about 220 I believe. Worth it though imo for the added taste - and size!

Is it the plain ones you get Mary? What do you do with them? I think I'd probably bake them with some herbs and maybe a spray of olive fry light ... ? I don't know if one of the ones I saw would fill me though. Although I suppose it was comparible to a salmon fillet in size so maybe its me being greedy ;) xx

Edited to add - 2 Go Ahead yoghurt slices .... they're only 74cals each but why do they have to put 2 in a pack?!

Hi Jan, good sensible outlook on wanting to lose your little extra weight gradually, thats like me too at the moment, quite happy to leave it take its own time to disperse.

I haven't seen the dusted river cobbler, I only buy the plain white one and the plain smoked one. With the smoked one I either fry/bake it with frylite and with the white one I dip it in beated egg, cover in breadcrumbs and bake, its a good size the ones I buy, probably about 6 inches wide, but not as thick as cod.

I agree with you on the 2 items in a pack thingy - I cant possibly just eat one of something and leave the other one lonely in the pack, I have to eat both haha.

River cobbler .... hmmmmm might have to give this a try! I always have salmon ...

It's really nice Tan - give it a whirl. It's a lot cheaper than salmon too!

Proud to say I picked up a milky way in the newsagents this morning and then went and put it back!!!

I DID rip the corner off a danish white crust and put a bit of clover on it in my mother's though - but it WAS tiny! ;)

Breakie - 2 weetabix with splenda & skimmed milk. 1 piece of soya & linseed, half with egg & bacon sandwich filler & half with houmous. (probably would have been better having the milky way LOL!)

Bed all day

Tea - DH cooked a concoction with meatballs, tomatoes & onions & spices and I threw some manestra in to thicken it - it was lovely.

Having some wine tonight.

Weighed when I got up - 1lb up on before I went away. I've done the few days where I drop the excess water so all together I have about 4lbs of excess blubber to get rid of. As I've said I'm going to try to do it by just being extra careful for a few weeks and see how it goes. xx

Edited to add - pkt crispy bacon wheat crunchies

Further edited to add - slice soya & linseed with reduced fat olive spread and a slice of corned beef ...:( .. swat 'appens after a bottle of wine :( xx

LOL Jan, I know exactly how you feel - do wonderful then a drink or two and all resolve goes out the window.

What is manestra Jan? Just curious if its something lower than flour to thicken any sauces.

Excellent that you are only 1lb up from going away - bet you were really pleased with that.

Ha Ha ... that wasn't the end of it either!! Never mind hey - today's another day - had a reall bad lunch though ....

Anyhoo ... manestra won't be lower than flour because it's pasta. It looks like rice but it's actually pasta so it takes up the moisture from whatever you put it in, more so than rice would and it has a really nice texture.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's used in Turkey in dishes done in the oven - because Greece is where we first came across it and I think there are some similarities in cuisine (but I might be wrong)

Will post with food diary later. Have grandkids here for tea and have to take them home and babysit them later. xx

Cheers chick, will look into the manestra. Enjoy the kids.
Off to bed now, only had about 7.5 hours sleep for the last two nights before my dayshifts, just couldtn nod off, then when I did Phill started to snore.......Grrr, absolutely shattered tonight.

Catch you tomorrow sometimes, I am nights Wed and Thur.

Probably see you Mary - I'm on Wed, Thur & Fri.

Got back very late from my son's so just a quick food post.

Tues 17th Nov

Breakie - 2 weetabix, splenda & skimmed milk.

Lunch - out, brocolli bake - thought it sounded the healthiest option WRONG ... it was basically a few pieces of brocolli & loads of potato slices swimming in a cheese bath. Came with chips, only had a few but ate all the bake. Also ate half a piece of DH's bread with a bit of bacon on.

Had a galaxy hot choc drink I've been fancying ...

Tea - took a green giant veg soup to my son's and also had - 2 teaspoons of peanut butter, a teaspoon of phili and 2 little chocs.

Horrendous journey back because of all the bloooooody roadworks going on - motorway closed, other routes with all kinds of temporary lights on them etc etc - 20 minute journey took me 35 so (like I needed an excuse ;)) I'm having a 'nightcap' ;) xx

How we doing today jan? Got your hands firmly on them reins? x

Ha Ha .... sort of ;)

Breakie/Lunch (out) was a lamb wrap with leaves and yoghurt & mint dressing and I had a tomato juice (I must look up if these are 'good' or what as I've had a couple lately) but I DID have half a slice of caramel shortcake. Sort of a planned 'extra' though - not just an impulse cheat.

Tea - we're having stir fried fish pieces with salad, I'll probably have some ff from frais with blueberries or sugar free jelly crystals later and I'll be taking a maintenance bar to work.

Hope you're all feeling good! :) xx

So far so good Jan :D

What is it about these planned 'treat's that make us not feel bad????!!!!! Iv got a couple this week - tomorrow having brownie desert, actually looked and its only 190cals for 1/6th of the cake - not bad i dont think? and saturday im having a cupcake .... but do i feel bad, not yet no lol x
