Jane's Diary

At the moment my willpower is strong but I doubt it will be in a couple of weeks!!!

Also, I've read that as long as food is below 50 cals it is generally accepted your body will still be in the fasted state! Hope so!

It's odd but I actually really feel that with this diet I will get into a healthy weight range. My sister in law reckons she would faint due to low blood sugar and just couldn't do it. She exercises a lot (spinning arghh) and thinks she would be unable to exercise on a fasting day.

None of this is true. I feel great and in control. The occasional hunger pang soon passes and I have not felt dizzy at all. The light meal and then breakfast you have after fasting tastes divine. I can really see this as a way of life, it's so easy and cheap!

When I eventually lose some motivation I will drop to two days a week and, hopefully, will still get a 1lb loss each week. A lb a week loss equals 52 in the year. One other major benefit is that I now don't go out for a meal and struggle to choose something low syn. I have to admit to being so indoctrinated in the low syn, low carb, low fat methods of dieting I will probably always opt for low fat where possible, but if I occasionally don't, what the heck. No more going to parties and avoiding the brown buffet!

The other unusual thing is that generally, after a fast, I don't feel hungry the next day and I have no urge to binge on rubbish.

It's great :)

Goodness me! Sometimes it's hard to diet. I've joined hubby for coffee after his meal and the waiter brought me over a mini Portuguese custard tart for a treat!!!! Then stayed near us, so I just had to eat it. I've also eaten six walnut halves off husbands cheese board. What with the chocolate on the pillow I think I've had about 700 cals. Hopefully wont do any damage!!

4650 cals plus 700 is 5,350 and divide by 5 equals 1,070 per day on average. I feel bloated and certainly no thinner but that could be down to all the water I'm drinking. Overall and assuming I can have about 2,000 per day that's a saving of almost 5,000 cals. At 3,500 cals per 1lb that should be nearly 1.5lb loss.

Just had the nicest breakfast ever :)

Two small thick slices of wholemeal bread toasted with a little butter and low sugar strawberry jam. They tasted absolutely gorgeous, especially as the bread was home made type bread and not mass produced stuff. Delicious.

Bran flakes, skimmed milk, desert spoon of raisins.

One pot low fat yogurt at 44 cals.

One glass of cava :)

I've just added it up to about 545 calories but that's taking the highest number for everything so it might only be about 500. I'm allowed up to 2,000 today :)

Hubby says he's going to join me when we get back into our normal daily routine. He's got two business trips abroad next week so no doubt he will gain a shed load of weight (plus I'm away).

I jumped on the scales this morning and think I've gone down. The scales are crap here, and that's putting it mildly!

Well I've no idea what I've eaten calorie wise but it was lovely.

I had a bread roll dipped in olive oil. foie gras with pear and berry compote. Cod and braised sprouts (actual shoots not sprouts as we know them) and butter bean mash followed by decaf black coffee and a couple of petit fours. Not forgetting two thirds of a bottle of sparkling wine.

I reckon I'd had just under 600 cals by the time we went out so hopefully that's ok.

I'm fasting tomorrow then feast Tuesday and fly home Wednesday. I won't fast Wednesday.

I did enjoy my meal :)

Fast day today. I've just looked on line to try to gauge what 50 cals of melon look like and it's about a quarter of a cantaloupe. They have honeydew melon here so I will try for about that amount. Although black coffee is 5 cals a cup so must remember to add that in!

One thing puzzles me.....if you have more than 50 cals you are considered to have broken your fast. Some people recommend eating two or three small meals a day on a fasting day. Well if you do that surely you will be negating any health benefits fasting gives you. I need to read a bit more on that.

I think from a quick look that the fasting period has to be 12 to 14 hours long for health benefits. Therefore if you eat your last meal at 7 pm you can eat 12/14 hours afterwards, so that's between 7 and 9 in the morning. I think the longer the fast the better. I suppose its whatever suits the individual.

Having a good fasting day so far. Apart from diet coke, water and black coffee I've consumed my bit of melon at breakfast and three extra strong mints at 10 cals each.

Shall I tell you what's has really spurred me on today. Hubby took a photo of me sunbathing and lying on my back. In my mind i thought I looked thinner but the camera never lies!!!!

I'm such a saint. I've just sat nursing a black coffee while my husband munched his way through a pizza. Had to crack on I wasn't hungry because I'd had a very large late lunch!

Came back to the hotel and ate some fruit and oatcakes. 512 calories in total. I'm not particularly hungry but I am looking forward to my toast and jam in the morning. I haven't eaten jam for a good few years now, always trying to avoid not only sugar but the bread it goes on!

I'm loving this diet so far.

Goodness me, my last post was 666 so I thought I'd do another :)

Had a bit of a carb overload at breakfast. Not massively so but more than I'm used to.

Two small pieces of brown toast with flora and low sugar jam. A crusty roll with a little butter and two tiny cubes of blue cheese. One low fat yogurt at 48 cals, black coffee and glass of cava.i also ate last nights pillow sweet when I got up, at 82 cals. I think I had roughly about 600 cals.

Since then I've eaten 7 mints at 70 cals total.

Tonight we are off to hemingways in cascais where they do a large fillet steak which I'm planning to wash down with copious amounts of red wine.

I think I've gone down today but with the scales here its hard to tell. I'm really looking forward to a few days of normality before the week in Spain. Although Friday and Saturday will be a washout as regards fasting!

We fly home tomorrow :)

Btw if a stranger drops by and is confused by me eating, I'm having a bit of a change from Sw and am doing the 5:2 diet (although currently its almost alternate days). Before I left home for my Hols I'd lost 8lb in six days!!! However, that's how it always is with a new diet starting after a four day music festival with loads of booze! Not reality. However it still gave me a boost and thoroughly motivated me to follow this method of eating.

I'm back home safely:). I've feasted for two days and today is a fast day. Last night I had a major blip. We got in at about 7 pm and then rushed around to our daughters house to see our granddaughter who was eight yesterday. There was loads of party food left, particularly cakes! Oh dear! I ate so much I felt ill, with the inevitable result that I'd stayed the same weight!! Not a bad thing but I'm pretty convinced that I've actually gone down. I will weigh tomorrow and that will give me a clearer picture.

Obviously your weight fluctuates greatly each day depending on whether you've eaten much or not. I think you can really only look at the underlying trend. As I'm going away again on Tuesday morning I plan on fasting today, Saturday (if possible whilst I'm in London) and on Monday.

I'm convinced the scales in the estoril hotel were saying 7lb under so I know there are three occasions last week when I was about 2lb lighter! It's my own fault and clearly shows that you must still be careful over what you eat on feast days.

I bought a salad and a fruit salad from M&S yesterday on our way home (meaning to eat them last night). Total cals about 380 so an ideal meal for my fasting day :)

I've had an excellent fasting day. I had my salmon salad and melon from M&S for my evening meal. During the day I've had two mugs of options chocolate drink and an Alpen cereal bar plus mugs of black coffee. Total cals 540 so just a little over. I do think it'll be an early night though :)

Back home safely. I fasted Thursday and ate on Friday. On Friday we travelled to London and I ate on the train, we then went out for a superb meal which was relatively healthy. We then attended the fashion show which was wonderful to see. My downfall food wise though was the aftershow party! I have no idea how much champagne was drunk but I'm sure I probably managed a good two bottles myself! We were in the VIP section at the party and were served an absolutely fabulous meal which was totally unexpected. Normally the aftershow party is just drinks and occasionally canapés. I was still full from our meal out but still managed to pick at the food!

Today I've tried to fast, not totally brilliantly but not too badly. I think my total cals today is about 700. I'm going to be careful tomorrow and plan on fasting on Monday before I go away again on Tuesday.

I hope I've not gone up tomorrow!!

Good morning. I've had a lovely long lie in I've just been on the scales and have now lost 8.5 lb, not bad considering how difficult its been trying to eat normally! I'm going to be careful today and am planning on cooking a Sunday dinner. Tomorrow I plan on fasting and then on tuesday it's a very early start to the airport and, as a meal has been booked and paid for on the flight, I will be eating.

I've just had a delicious Sunday dinner and how nice it was to have three Yorkshire puddings and not give one iota about syns or points!

I've been away so much over the last couple of weeks and eaten loads of meals out. Under normal diet conditions I'd be struggling to pick something acceptable diet wise and would definitely have gained weight! Obviously I can't eat loads of rubbish but its a whole new world of food

Time for my apple pie and custard
