Jane's Diary

Another 1lb gone so that's 11lb lost so far. I measured myself on the 25th August so I'm assuming that's when I started. I can't remember if I measured a day or so later but it's near enough. That would therefore make it about 4 weeks now of this diet.

When I was much younger I could lose weight this fast but once I hit about 40 it became such a hard slog to diet! Even though the fast days are sometimes hard I always have in my mind that its only one day. For once I truly believe that I will be slim. I will be that thin person eating a slice of cake. The sort of person I look at now and wonder how they do it!

Today is a normal eating day. Think I will have porridge for breakfast.

I'm so full! I've actually eaten all of the 2,000 calories I'm allowed. In fact I'm 66 over! I feel as though I've eaten loads. It's so lovely to be able to eat without having to think I can't have it or I'm cheating. I came across a slimming world recipe for some low syn scones today and pondered whether to make them before I realised that I could have the real thing if I want to! The freedom is fantastic

I've basically been doing alternate day fasting but tomorrow I've decided to eat normally. I plan on fasting Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. Unless of course I wake up and change my mind

Thanks Emmaline. You've done well calorie counting and low carving combined.

I've been thinking for some time that good old fashioned calorie counting was the way to go. I think when I've done it before I've put my body into starvation mode and weight loss has almost ground to a halt. Hopefully with this diet that won't happen. I always used to notice that when I had an eating blip weight loss would start again and then gradually slow.

I'm also looking forward to my blood sugar blood test in November to see if that's improved. I'm not diabetic yet but am heading that way. The 18 months I've been on slimming world my levels have been rising, albeit very slowly. It'll certainly be interesting. It would be fabulous if I've reversed the trend

Another great thing with this type of diet is that no one is out to make money from you, in fact it probably saves money

I'm loving it so far and long may my enthusiasm continue!

I really feel I ate too much yesterday. It was just one of those days. I fully expected a substantial gain but miraculously I was only up half a pound! According to the calculator on the 5:2 diet site I can eat bout 2,100 on my non fast days. I actually ate about 2,150 which seemed loads. Maybe that's because I've dieted for so many years and am used to so much less! I think I normally eat about 1,600 on my non fast days but maybe I should eat more!

I've still not made my mind up if today is a fasting day or not. I'm hedging my bets at the moment . I've had one coffee with skimmed milk so far. I've to nip out for a little shopping so I will see how it goes. I'm not particularly hungry after yesterday's food but granddaughters are sleeping tonight and I need to cook for them. Hubby is safely home from his travels and, fortunately, he will eat whatever is put in front of him.

I've made my decision. It's a fasting day. Ive still had nothing to eat so I might as well carry on.

On a none dieting subject. I had an almost irresistible urge to tick someone off today. She overtook me like a mad thing then drove right up the arse of the person in front and almost in the middle of the road. I kept glimpsing her in the distance doing it to other drivers. Three miles on I caught up with her at the lights so what good did it do her? I'd sauntered along at 30 as its a very built up area. She then stopped in the road to turn right into a Tesco local, holding me up! I almost turned in after her to tell her she was a very aggressive driver but thought better of it. I'm such a wimp.m I wish there was someway of reporting people like that. Not that I'm an angel in the driving department by any means! Rant over.

Well granddaughters have had a three course dinner, hubby two courses and I've had an m&s count on us cottage pie at 340 cals, broccoli at 40, earlier today jelly at 10, two coffees one black 5 cals and one with skimmed milk at about 25. So that's 420. I think I will have a Chocolate drink later at 40 cals and maybe a small satsuma at about 25. Could really push the boat out and have two more black coffees

Total calories today 515.

I'm looking forward to breakfast. One granddaughter wants crumpets and the other has asked for cheese on toast. Now which shall I have! I think it might be crumpets

I'm pretty hungry today but I can wait until tomorrow. I think if I was dieting like this every day I'd be desperate by now and would have given in an eaten all the crumpets. This is an ace diet in many ways.

1/2 lb off so that's an 11 1/2 lb so far. Today is a normal eating day so crumpets for breakfast.

Ha! Just got on the scales after my shower etc and I'm another quarter down. Not much but every little helps . So that's 11 3/4 lb. Nit much to go to the stone. Hopefully I shall get that next week.

1,621 calories today. Not particularly healthy though, although I've eaten plenty of fruit. I can't seem to get my brain into gear following my holiday. Plus I've been feeling particularly tired which I think is down to my thyroid not the diet. I need to plan my shopping a bit more and get cooking. Ready meals are good for fasting days but I will have to watch they don't slip into non fast days! We don't eat as much veg as we should when eating ready meals.

I bought The Hairy Dieters Eat For Life cookbook yesterday and there are some lovely recipes in it. My first job tomorrow will have to be a shopping list. I ordered some zero rice and pasta today. Hope it's edible!

Hip hip hooray another 1/2 gone and after an eating day! That's 12 1/4 in 5 weeks (including holidays, cava etc). I'm very pleased, hope it keeps going in the right direction.

Swam 20 lengths today and its a fasting day.

3 black coffees = 15 cals
2 fishcakes at 140 each = 280
140g Brussels sprouts = 60

Total: 355.

Boring tea but its all i could find and the fishcakes were almost out of date. Hubby in London so no meal required.

Btw my fast has lasted from about 8 last night until when I eat at six. 22 hours.

Time for bed. Excited to see if I've gone down again tomorrow. Total calories 505. Had a couple of large plums and skimmed milk in instant coffee and a 40 cal chocolate drink earlier. Felt a bit like something sweet so also had a 10 calorie jelly pot.

Only 1/2 lb to go to my first stone loss on his diet

Today is an eating day and I'm off to Marks to look at all their lovely food.

It's such a joy to be able to look at food and not think I can't have it! I bought a few ready meals in Marks for fasting days. Something very odd though is that I have no desire to eat high fat, high calorie food and most of my shopping was extremely healthy. I did slip in a chocolate bar but that was only 200 cals.

Calories so far today 1,110. I had a lovely prawn salad for lunch and am planning mince and carrots for tea (I opted for my normal purchase of extra lean mince) but joy of joys I can thicken it with corn flour and browning . No worries on the syn front!

I've had my mince and carrots plus two caramel mousses. Total calories so far 1,787. I may have a 40 cal chocolate drink and maybe a satsuma or two later.

I'm undecided whether to fast tomorrow or not. I'm going swimming and doing aqua aerobics so it might be a good day to fast. I'm trying to change from fasting alternate days to fasting mon, wed and Friday. Then I can have the weekend off.

Just booked 8 days in Spain for the end of April. I wonder what weight I will be in seven months! I have five weeks in India before then but I usually lose weight there. I think the heat stops me eating and there is such a lot of fresh fruit to enjoy. It's about three months to India so I could be two stone lighter than now. Running through my mind though is that I will believe it when I see it. Ha ha! Might struggle for summer clothes in mid winter!

I had my drink and two satsumas so my calories today are 1,877 or thereabouts.
