NannyDoreen & Upndown's daily diaries

So glad you are getting to Manchester after all Linda. It is a concern about Serena. Good for you keeping your halo Kathy. Hurrah for BNS soup. (I know I always say it, but have you tried leaving the skin on, if you cook it long enough it will blitz down.)

I came home yesterday (sat) Nik & Davina met me at Bishops Stortford as they had gone to pick Faye up from dancing. Left Flynn with them and came home. I needed too I was very tired. I had driven over 200 miles in total.

Have you tried sleeping in a bed with 2 children and a dog. Not easy. When they were asleep I changed beds, then Flynn came into me with the dog, when Flynn went asleep I went back in with Fayen. Talk about musical beds. It was because mum and dad were not coming home Friday night. Bless them, and the dog!

Wow! Not surprised you're tired, Doreen! You must be shattered! Still, it's lovely you can see your grand-children so often.

Yes, I know you say about leaving the BNS unpeeled. :) I really must try it sometime. Does it go really smooth when using it in a soup, if you leave it unpeeled or is it just ok for using in other recipes, like risotto, for example? Would definitely make life a lot easier if you can have it unpeeled in soups! :)

Enjoy your Sunday, Doreen and put your feet up. 200 miles?! I'm not joking - I would never even attempt it!! :O Well done, you! xx

I have got used to it. When I go the other side of Norwich to see one of my sisters it takes 2.1/4 hrs. I only stop to go to the loo. Not going as often as I used to though.

BNS for soup. I let it cook for quite a while and the skin blitzes down good. I sometimes get a piece of it or even a piece3 of carrot if not blitzed properlyy. Not often though.
I do make BNS chips - with skin. I don`t cut them too thick and do not preboil.
I have made beef & BNS lasagne, the bits were smaller and the skin cooked good.

I am gonna make a small lasagne tomorrow with BNS carrots & pepper & mush. I have been told to use Macoroni cheese and fromage frais for the sauce.

A lady as class who makes it uses 500g mince with whatever you want to put in. Then blitzes a tin of macoroni cheese and put in about to tablespoons of fromage frais just enough to make it spread easier. Then a layers it with the meat & lasagne sheets.
She puts grated cheese on top but I don`t buy cheese because you can no longer get the deli to cut a small piece.

I am going to do a lasagne either tomorrow or Tuesday to take with me Thursday. I will let you know how it goes.

Syns. Heinz 6syns. tesco own 4.1\2 syns, Asda Smart Price only 3 syns. I reckon whatever you use would be good synwise as you won`t eat it all in one go.

Never thought to leave skin on BNS but its only thin so thinking about it, it would work lol xx I made my BNS soup whilst cooking Sunday dinner earlier as I tend to get lazy on Sundays lol xx

Thanks for all that info, Doreen. Will give it a go, next time, with the skin on. The lasagne sounds interesting! We've just had a very late lunch, with the BNS soup scattered with crispy chorizo and we're having salmon fillets tonight with some new potatoes and petit pois. Always sounds posh when I call them that but I much prefer them to garden peas. Think they're much sweeter. xx

Petit pois, 2what else is there? Have just finished updating your thread. Good job done.

Hi everybody. I am just cooking a chicken chasseur for dinner tonight. I am going to see Miss Saigon tonight. Meeting at 5pm so early dinner.
Hardly slept last night and my eyes are a bit sore so as soon as chicken cooked, about 1/2 hr, I am gonna have a bit of sleep.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend in Manchester Upndown.

Nanny D have u ever seen it b4? Take ur tissues its such a lovely tear jerker. I love it. Have fun. X

You too, Linda and, yes, I'm doing ok, thanks. Going to make some BNS soup later. The cook from school has given me a very light-weight looking potato peeler, which she swears by for peeling BNS so will give that a go. :) If not, it'll be back to softening the skin first in the microwave!

Lovely sunny day here in Stafforshire but still very chilly. Off out with my brother and his girlfriend/partner this evening, with Pete, my OH. We're off to a country pub where there's a good singer on so should be fun. They did suggest eating there but we declined so my halo is still intact!

Have a lovely weekend ladies. xx

Hope u had a good night ouy Kathy, well done on passing on the meal out!!xx

Never mind we get the gist. It's not always easy to get the multi-quote right depending what you're using. My phone doesn't like it much.

Did you have a good weekend then? :) Any interesting purchases and how did you get on with food? xx

Good to catch up with everyone's news! Well we had a good weekend - the girls ended up at the rugby (the boys went to the pub whilst we had a short pop to the shops!)

Train journey home was split half way by a coach ride cos of maintenance works on the line -!which elongated the journey by half - so 2 hours turned into 3!

Food wise was ok - def not on plan - I made some good choices but also had some treats!

Realised it's not a good idea to go to SW 2moro as we're away next week (going to London) all this gadding about is not good for the diet but good for us esp hubby has he's not had much time off since our summer hol.

So will go to SW a week 2moro xx

Here's my food for the day:

b: toast part heb, egg, pear
l: bread other part heb, 1 rasher lean bacon, ketchup 1 syn? apple
d: beef, broccoli, cauli, carrots, celery, 1 tbsp gravy ? syns

Treat: Freddo crinkles - 5 syns (half syn less than the milk choc one and lovely cos the sprinkles added some texture and made it last a bit longer!xx
Syns = 6 plus the gravy
