Hi Doreen,
Sainsbury Be Good to Yourself quarter pounders for 1 syn, are they any good? Also, how long do you cook your chicken in the slow cooker for? Do you brown it in a frying pan first? Do you just wash the chicken and bung it in whole?
Morning Jayne.
I really like the Be Good 1/4lb burgers. They are very meaty not much comes out of them and although they shrink a bit, they seem to be thicker when cooked. I grill them usually from frozen. Lovely with egg chips or mash, anything really. I think they are something like £2.65 for 4. I do have 2 most of the time, (I keep telling myself to only have one) but 1 is really enough depending of course what you are having with it. Nice in a wm roll with a bit of cheese etc. again served with chips, 1 is plenty then.
The chicken. I had been advised to put a couple of whole carrots under the chicken or some rolled up foil.
I used whole carrots and did not find them looking eatable when done but they are only there apparently to stop the chicken sticking to the bottom? Not going to bother next time and see what happens.
I just put it whole in the slow cooker, I did put a little water in the bottom because I was worried about it drying out. It didn`t, it was just falling off the bone when I `tried to get it out`, it didn`t stay whole, but was fantastic. Any skin just fell off easily the bones came out of most of it.
The water I put in with a couple of chicken oxo cubes made a lovely gravy base. O
I only put in no more than 2 inches. I put most of the juice in the fridge and it has just a very thin layer of fat on it and is like jelly. Gonna keep this for gravy base for next chicken pieces.
It was bootiful and I had eaten it in two days. It was not a big chicken.
Did nit answer the question really, I don`t brown it first and I leave it on low for about 6 hours, I think mine was in for 7 hrs on low. Can be medium for less time.
If you like tender chicken you will like it, I don`t like breast - too dry - but the breast was lovely too.
I know I go on a bit Jayne, but I hope that helps.
