How far along are you Shenzi??

I don't think i was sure until about 21 weeks with movements....i now know i was feeling baby about 19 weeks but i was putting it down to wind/tummy rumbles etc as it wasn't very strong. I was told that once you get to 24 you should be feeling baby, but some people don't feel much until 28 weeks. After 28 weeks they would scan etc to make sure bubs was ok as after 28 weeks they are getting less and less room so expect you to feel movements!

My baby has moved from what i assume was feet down over the weekend to head down....i am not feeling much at all (assume my placenta is cushioning kicks up there as it's anterior) but definitely aware of movement. So it really does depend on how baby is laying and at 18 weeks they can swim around quite freely.....mine proved that at the 20 week scan when the poor sonographer was chasing it around my belly lol!

Don't worry soon enough you will feel bubba! :)

Only 18 weeks xx

I think I got my first "bubbles" at 18.. Then nothing til 20 weeks.. Then it got a little stronger n more frequent but didn't feel definite kicks til probably 21/22 weeks.. i'll double check when I go home coz I have it noted and I'll let you know.. Definitely at 18 there wasn't allot.. As I say I think I had my "bubbles" when I was 18 weeks.. That literally felt like 3 little bubbles popping one after another which had I not been sitting down resting would have been missed they were so slight... I definitely wouldn't worry.. I know that's hard especially after a MW sounding concerned.. Will update later with definite weeks n timings..

The guidelines on feeling first movements etc are between 18-22 weeks i think so i wouldnt worry! Especially if you have an anterior (front) placenta as it can dull a lot of movement anyways.... :)

That's what I thought but wasn't sure and hadn't had time to check so didn't want to say...

That is going by memory and what my books say etc. Its not really good that a midwife has put concerns in your mind about not feeling movement at 18 weeks...they're supposed to put you at ease!!

Thanks for putting my mind at ease ladies, I wasn't overly concerned about that in particular, then hearing the concern in her voice made me even more anxious about babies safety especially how I'd just been talking to her about a referral to the MH midwife, silly cow! Anyway she has made me an appointment to see her tomorrow at 3.30 so I can hear babies HB hopefully that will put my mind at ease...

That's just naughty, stressing you out like that! I didn't feel proper kicks until nearly 22 weeks and I wouldn't have known at 18 weeks what baby moving felt like at all. It might be that you do have an anterior placenta but even if you don't you won't necessarily feel anything at 18 weeks. You'll feel so much better once you've heard baby's heartbeat again and the movement will come soon.

Are you getting your referral btw? xxx

Just had a look at my massage bar and it's also the Therapy one. Clearly we have good taste ;) and it's good to know it's recommended by someone who loves Lush as much as you do xx

We have very good taste! It's the best of the massage bars :) Let me know what you think to it, I started using it as a cream from this morning :) xxx

Ooh and re the runny egg thing, I ate one without thinking when I was about 15 weeks and had a right panic! Everything was fine though. I do try to make sure eggs are well done though.

Another Costa decaf addict here, I'm looking forward to one tomorrow in fact! xxx

Question from me - am I right in thinking that you should buy a new cot/crib/basket mattress for every new baby?

MIL text to say that they have collected the second hand cot today and that it came with a mattress. I said not to worry about the mattress as we'd need to buy a new one anyway and she got a bit weird about that, saying that it would be ok as the cover was washable, it looked hardly used and it was from mothercare so a good brand. My thoughts are that I don't bloody care what brand it is - if we need a new one then we need a new one!

So do I smile, accept it and then buy a new one anyway? Or just wash the removable cover and that should be ok? I'm in the first camp at the moment...

I've always been told that you should buy a new mattress for each baby. Someone told me it's to help reduce cot death but not sure exactly how. I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry but then again when we were kids I bet people didn't buy new ones for each baby. I personally would. They're not mega expensive and it's nice to have a brand new one for bubs xxx

I THINK ur meant to buy a new one for each baby. even if its being passed from sibling to sibling... But maybe wait n see what others say as I'm not 100%

See that's what I thought, even for siblings. I think maybe MIL is just being odd again... ;)

Exactly my thoughts - I think we'll probably just accept it and then buy a new one and not tell her! I wouldn't buy a second hand mattress for me, never mind for my baby! xxx
