Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Thanks hun I'm just so confused...so body suits and vests you can wear underneath clothes? You wouldn't wear them on their own?

Are they all the same? lol I was thinking because my sis said most people will buy baby clothes, and how will I know the difference between what they sleep in and what they wear during the day... it all looks the same :\ lol x

I agree with Frances - i understand that the sleepsuits are the babygrows that babies wear to sleep in/during the day. Body suits are long sleeve vests and the vests are short sleeved - both of those go under the baby grows.

I bought some vests with short sleeves but wasn't sure if i should have got the bodysuits as it will be cold - i might get a few long sleeve ones in case i need them, but the vests should hopefully be fine and keep baby's core all toasty warm!

Well I went on the hunt n hav picked up another pram suit. It's "up to 1 month" n MUCH smaller. J still thinks its huge lol He's been holding it "practising holding the baby" Was in stitches,..
Also picked up a very cute white cardigan that has little knitted booties attached. Size NB.

And finally... Got 2 boxes of breast pads (EUR1.95 for both) 1 box disposable pants (EUR1.25) A bottle of head to toe baby wash n talcum powder (EUR1.95 for both) in super drug.

Can Any of the newbe mammies advise approx how many boxes to hav in?? Can't picture J going to get me any if them lol

Sounds a successful shop :) I've just gone through the clothes we have and decided what we will take in hospital bag so will wash those tomorrow. The clothes vary so much in size despite all being the same size. Bit of a mind game really.

I've got pack of 20 breast pads and 20 maternity pads. Figure rah should be enough to start with. I fully expect Paul or my parents to go get me more if required!! Lol

I think I'm lucky that my breast only really leaked during the night!! I think I used breast pads 3 times!! (Not at night a I didn't care!!) however my boons never really filled out! :-/

As for the maternity pads... I had 3 packs of 10 and ended up buying another 3 packs (on 3 for 2 in boots!!) then I picked up 3 packs of regular towels ( thinner and meant to be more comfortable!!)

My advice would be when going to the regular ones use the night time as they are much longer!! Also maybe some vasalene where the edges go - I've stopping using them now when in the house but after nearly 4 weeks I have some sore patches where the thicker pads had rubbed!! :-( xxx

glad i saw this thread ladies,,,

I need some help on a pram!! i had a graco travel system with my son but hated the carrycot part as he grew out within a month :(

This time im looking for a pram thats got a carrycot, then the pram part as ive still got the car seat i think im going to use again

Not too sure on prams Jess, just know we're getting the mother care orb which is a carry cot and pram and buying the car seat too.

I thought body suits were just another name for any vests as I had no sleeve and short sleeve ones from mothercare that we're labelled as bodysuits, confused as to why there are no sleeve and short sleeve ones but I guess I'll just use whatever comes to hand first!

Id get 2 more packs of maternity pads, i went though about 4 packs and also had the kotex ones. i recommend cotton big 'granny pants' they were comfy, covered my bum as felt awful with the pads on! also agree with the vaseline as i got sore where pad is at the back, ended up going onto night time super pads again i used always... for when bleeding reduced...

What make is your car seat? Would you need to get another graco pram to use with it or are you not wanting to put the car seat on the frame, I guess brand wouldn't matter then.

We've gone for the oyster with carrycot and I know that takes a few different sorts of car seats (we have a britax car seat and it'll take that without needing adapters). We loved how small and light it is and that the carrycot is pretty big and comes separate to the pushchair. Means you have to store it after baby's grown out of it but we're planning to use it as a travel cot and for downstairs naps so hopefully we'll get good use from it. We did look at prams where the pushchair seat folds and turns into a pram but we preferred the idea of something separate to give us more sleeping options.

It's so hard to choose though! So many prams and they all have good and bad points. Good luck choosing :) xxx

thats another i like!!! lol.
they all have the large carrycot which i like, then the pram part for when bigger.... no dont really plan on using car seat on pram as got car adaptor thing for thecar seat so may as well use again. just need to check expiry dates on them,

well heres the ones i like...
sola, oyster, orb, xpedior and zoom... think i need to go and test these plenty of times!

So 4 packs of Kotex n 2 packs of maternity pads???
It's a pity u can't see what's in the pack isn't it? Lol
Like, hav a sample on show do we have a clue... Lol
Certainly not looking forward to wearing the Kotex!! They're so thick n long!!
I've hot size 18-20 full briefs from pennys (primary) They go right up over my belly button ha ha. SEXY!!! They're huge on so should accommodate the huge pads too

My OH likes the orb but he'd spend his day spinning baby around if I got that ha ha
It's handy I think for ppl who need to get on n off buses etc... But otherwise I think the same as Expedia. But EUR100 more expensive !! And as I never get buses is what made my decision

The oyster carrycot is huge! Seems to hold its value too so we plan to eBay it once he's grown out of it and I reckon we could get about £50 back for it. We had a play with the xpedior but it was harder to turn than the oyster, which wouldn't be an issue for most but we need a pram that moves easily as we have to get down a narrow hallway and round a 90 degree corner to get into our house and it wasn't very snappy. It's amazing value though, you get tonnes for the price! The sola looks nice too, that was also on our radar.

I've become a bit obsessed with prams hehe! xxx

I didn't use disposable ones. A shop near me called M&co sell 'big pants' 5 pairs for £6.50. I got those then when I went back in hospital I sent my mum who bought be another 2 packs as u was changing knickers with every shower (4-6 a day!!)

During the labour there was a moment when I'd had an epidural and I couldn't lift myself to take them off so I told the midwives to cut them off lol xx

Haha think this is the main reason my OH likes the Orb!

I got massive pants from primark and disposable ones, must admit I've worn the big ones a few times, with some clothes now I find you can see my normal pants digging into my hips :-(

He stood in the shop checking to see how fast it could go!! Imagine!! There'd b circles of baby puke all over my house!!!!
It's a luvly pram tho. I think it n the Expedia are same except for the turntable??
We're getting the "apple" colour pack... Was all set on on red but he suggested the apple. Then I seen someone with it n it's a fab shade... N different!!

I still wear my usual g strings... Is that bad???

The disposable pants look kinda scary! Plus they only seem to go up to 16/18 and I'm an 18/20 so I got a pack of massive knickers from asda for £3 instead. Bought them a size too big and they are huge and mega comfy :)

We looked at the orb too, the spinny thing is awesome! Having seen people trying to get it on a bus though I was definitely put off. We only have the mini buses round here with bugger all parking space for a pram and hardly any room to put a folded pushchair so that was a massive consideration for us. Plus it has quite a large wheelbase and we were worried about getting it down the hallway. Same problem we had with most prams we looked at, so many of them are built like tanks lol ;)

It's funny with prams, there's so much to think about - especially if you're going to be taking the bus a lot or if you drive but don't have much boot space...
