Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

The prob I've had with the big pants is I'm actually still in them and after losing 23lbs since them fitting they fall down now all the time!! Lol. Even hubby pulled them up for me the other night is bed when I turned over (we both laughed) he could go buy me a new pack in a smaller size but these are not going to be worn forever so I'm just managing - hubby putting them in the dryer for a long time has helped!! Hehe x

Lol! Boil wash 'em, they might fit you then ;) xxx

The disposable pants look kinda scary! Plus they only seem to go up to 16/18 and I'm an 18/20 so I got a pack of massive knickers from asda for £3 instead. Bought them a size too big and they are huge and mega comfy :)

We looked at the orb too, the spinny thing is awesome! Having seen people trying to get it on a bus though I was definitely put off. We only have the mini buses round here with bugger all parking space for a pram and hardly any room to put a folded pushchair so that was a massive consideration for us. Plus it has quite a large wheelbase and we were worried about getting it down the hallway. Same problem we had with most prams we looked at, so many of them are built like tanks lol ;)

It's funny with prams, there's so much to think about - especially if you're going to be taking the bus a lot or if you drive but don't have much boot space...

thats what i stuggle with as i think may use buses at times but also needs to fit in the new ford focus' boots!

I found people watching on buses to be good research - quickly realised that anything silver cross was out as they're pretty much all massive! Other than that, we just measured up the hallway and took the measurements with us shopping. Turned out the the oyster was the slimmest and lightest pushchair that did everything we wanted (faces both ways in all modes, carrycot, loads of car seat options etc) so we went for it. You can just about fold it too, it's a bit clunky but could be useful for packed buses!

thats one i want to go look at too, might see if can drag hubby to have a look. even though im only just 10 weeks lol. wouldnt buy until closer to DD. But then ive seen good offers on some half price!!

We tried ours out in kiddicare but bought online - got the pushchair, car seat and carrycot for £420 which we were happy with as it should have been more like £550! Mum bought it for us and I felt so bad her spending that much money that I wanted to make sure I found a good deal.

If there are good deals on buy early! We should have got our earlier as could have saved more money but I was panicking and mum was procrastinating lol ;) x

I thought the orb wud b dead handy for buses with not having to do a 360 to get it off... Shows how much I use buses lol

The spinning thing looks well handy for that, it's just fitting them in a bus bay that's a problem as the wheelbase is quite wide. Especially if someone else with a pram is on already and I don't think they collapse down very well :(

Copying from my thread... For those who wanted to know about NCT nearly new sales.

Wow what a day. Not sure where it has gone really, but guess we have got a fair bit done.

Was wide awake at 4-5.30am which was rather annoying. Did snooze on and off til 8.30 then up we got. We went to a NCT nearly new sale. It was really good. Could have bought so much but we were fairly well behaved. Bought 6 items of clothing, most were 50p each apart from one baby grow which was brand new with tags on and was £3. Some of them give the gender away so won't post them here, but these are the two neutrals. Love them, esp for 50p each

We also got a baby swing/rocker. There were quite a few for sale actually but in the end we went for a bright colourful one which was only a fiver. It is currently in Argos in the sale for £55.99 so think we did well. The seat cover can be washed and will use bleach wipes on everything else, then think baby will love it. It plays music and has different swing settings. Leon the lion is trying it out in this photo...

I know. I had eyed a mama and papas one that someone was selling for £25. It was still in it's box although used. In the shop it's £89 so high range one but Paul wasn't sure spending £25 when we could have got home and it didn't work. It was also cream coloured so would show poo/sick a lot. We then saw this one and thought wow it is hex and bright. Paul asked how much they wanted and they said £5 so we quickly paid. It folds up too which is useful.

Yes Leon is fab. His paws squeak and his Maine makes crunchy noises. Pretty cool lion :)

Definitely go to the derby one. It cost us £1 to go in. It did get pretty busy though. That's the only thing to be aware of. Think we will go to the one once baby bear is here. There were lots of bigger clothes and toys. Lots of bikes and such like.

Aw I've got the lion for bubs!! It's caused a lot of upset though. We bought it back in 2011 when we started trying and I put it away. Found it on 11th May and had a massive crying meltdown about how I couldn't get pregnant....only to get our bfp that day! So it's really special to us :)

Right, I know this probably isn't an issue for most people but just throwing it out there.

As it's only five weeks until minismasher turns up now, I'm getting myself into a panic about pretty much everything. Top of my mind this morning is getting to hospital! If I get induced, fine - I'll get a cab and make my way in. If labour starts naturally though...

Had a google around this morning and it seems that there is no ideal scenario when you don't have access to a car. Some taxi firms will refuse to take you if you're in labour and even if they do you have to agree to be liable for soiling charges if necessary (£50 usually) which we can't afford to incur. But an ambulance isn't an option either as they're understandably not keen on being called out for non-emergency situations and I would never want to misuse the service.

Then what if I get there and they want to send me home because I've gone in too early?

I'm crapping myself tbh! We have no access to a car, my mum can't drive, Colin's parents are two hours away and we have no one close by that we could call on in the night if necessary, never mind in the day.

Any ideas? Or anyone with kids already been in this situation? We're going to start calling around taxi firms to get the lay of the land but the whole thing is making me so nervous and I'm already terrified of the idea of going into labour naturally. :/

When I was in labour they put a large square mat under me to 'catch liquids' they were literally just like those puppy training mats.
U could got some if those to sit on in the taxi?? If u know anyone with a dog they might have some as I know a few people who do have them (me included) and they could give u 1-2 which u could return if unsoiled?

Do u want to be induced?? U could talk to yr midwife/doctor about being induced and give these reasons which are causing u stress etc.

Could u invite Colin's parents to stay with u close to the time? (Not sure if they work etc)

Hmmmm...I will get my thinking cap on! Xx

I think ur gona find the same issue with all taxi firms tbh as they'd have to go have a valet so wud b out if service. So I think unfortunately it's something ud hafta hav put by but hope u don't need it.
What's the hospitals "norm" ?? At my hospital they ask u to ring when u think uv gone into labour. Then assess U over the phone. Depending on timing etc they'll advise if they want u in r not. Given ur anxiousness n seeing the mh mw tho they might ask u to come in sooner.
Tbh I kno we hav a car n all but I reckon we'll b getting a cab in too. Our hospital is in city centre so it's pay n display parking. N wud hate to hav J running in n out every couple of hours to top up the meter...

Ha ha I was thinking puppy pads too. They sell them in the euro shop here.... If needed wudnt b expensive

Mothercare do sheets that you can put on your bed or car to protect. We were going to get some of those.

I think I would speak to mw and explain your anxiousness. Could they arrange a non emergency ambulance? So not ringing 999?

Otherwise a cab but using double protective sheets and ring maternity ward beforehand to explain symptoms and that you're coming in but don't have transport so once you're there, you'll be staying at the hospital.

Hugs Hun x
