Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

The only things in mine will be I only want a C section if it's absolutely necessary, they love a C section in the Middle East! Also that I want skin to skin contact once baby is born. Other than that I'll start with gas and air and probably work my way up! Lol

Anyone else seen this..... http://news.sky.com/story/1167229/breastfeeding-new-mums-to-get-shop-vouchers It's actually made me fuming!!! I'm choosing not to breast feed but some people have no option and HAVE to bottle feed. Nothing like putting more pressure on people and making them feel guilty!!

Yeah saw that this morning :/ I can see what they're trying to do but it's not the right way to go about it IMO. And just more pressure and guilt trips for those who can't breastfeed :(

Totally agree!! Xx

And not only that it is seen as more of a "reward" for those who breastfeed?! What, so is that saying that those who bottle feed aren't doing as good a job?! I plan to breastfeed and this has made me angry!! Because what if for some reason I can't?! Does that make me bad?! Arrgghh x

I plan to BF but I'll not feel guilty if I can't! The pressure is so bad to do it saw my friend getting so stressed about it because midwives are told by the government to push it. I know plenty of people who have bottle fed and can't see it makes a difference to the children.

Hiya girls, I'm back the land of the minis:D. I'm trying to catch up but my god you girls can type ha!!

On the whole birth plan thing. I've never done one, I think its easy to get caught up on it and be disappointed if it doesn't go to the letter. I've always gone in with an open mind.

I would say though labour is not as painful as you think it will be. I promise you all, you are probably all imagining the worst pain in history, it won't be that bad!!!! Don't get me wrong, it is painful but not enough that you think you'll pass out or die. The best thing to do is just allow it to happen if that makes sense, stay calm, listen to the midwife and remember each contraction will pass and with each one you are closer to meeting your baby face to face.

I definately believe in staying as upright and mobile as possible, do whatever you feel comfortable with the midwife will work with you. I paced and bounced on the ball will I was having contractions (gas and air in hand), then when in the pushing phase I knelt on the bed with my daughter and stood at the side of a raised be with my son, my hubby stood at the other side to give me something to pull against, I got to catch my own son and see what he was all by myself, definately my favourite out of the two labours. Midwive was delighted, said the least involved she is the better. Hubby also said he felt useful during that labour and wasn't as worried about me as I seemed to 'have it all under control'.

I knew I was in labour both times for a good 12 hours before I went to the hospital so try not to worry too much about it coming on all of a sudden. My labour both started like period pains in my back. With my daughter I kept trying to go the toilet as I thought I needed a BM before I realised it was pressure of baby being fully engaged. I did not have a show with her, but my waters broke when I got to the hospital. With my son I started getting the pains in my back and had a bloody show. I rested throughout the night and went in once I had regular contractions ( I think 10mins apart, because I've an hours journey to the hospital).

I know each experience is different but thought I'd type this out and see if it helps. Please feel free to ask me any questions if you want and I'll try and answer if I can. But please believe labour won't be as bad as your imagination will lead you to believe!! I know I was really scared with my first, the second I was so calm they tried to send me home before they realised I was about 6 - 8cm dilated ha! xx

Dunno about anyone else but it certainly helps me.. Thanks hun..
So glad to have you back :D But I will need your mobile number if you need to leave again.... :D

I also don't have a plan as such.. But I do want more info (actual info, not googled half informed info) on the pro's and cons of each method of pain relief.. Ideally I'll do it with just gas n air.. But I have a very low pain threshold and really don't think its realistic for me.. But I will do my best to stick with just that.. After that.. I'll do what I'm told, when I'm told... Tho as Laura has said there and I've read, I would like gravity to play its part and be on my back as little as posible... If I can manage it...

I promise I won't go missing again. Now I can use my phone in the house to catch up too with the broadband so I'm more accessable. I was so sure I'd put somewhere on here I wouldn't be on due to switching over provider but I must have written it in an email to my sisters or something. So sorry xx

Really helpful for me too, thank you. xxx I'm so anxious about it all and especially the idea that it'll just happen unexpectedly! I'm still not sure how on earth I'll manage to stay calm but I guess I've not got much choice in the matter :/

Re: Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: Brands, Feeding, Nursery, Bathing, Everything!

I don't really think ill have a birth plan but I think I'm going to note a few things down for Mike in case he has to be my advocate. Ideally id love a water birth but I know my BMI is too high, so my plan is to stay home as long as possible and use water as pain relief at home (I know baby could change this plan if something happens etc that means I have to go in to hospital) I would like to stay away from an epidural if I can and try with just gas and air. I've got a weird thing to ask the midwife but Mike is too squeamish to cut the cord and I really want to do it myself..... unsure if they would let me or if I'd be in a position to do it but worth asking. I also want skin to skin contact as soon as baby's born. Overall I'm going to go with the flow and see how I handle it.

I wanted a water birth too as I know water would help with my pelvic pain. Only problem is a) I'm consultant led and they won't let me and b) even if they would there's only only birthing pool and I wouldn't want to get my hopes up about using it only to turn up and find it's already in use.

I do want to use the mobile monitor though if possible so I can still walk around, lying on my back is so painful! That's the only thing I'm definitely insisting on. Colin wants to cut the cord if possible and they do skin to skin straight away as a matter of course if everything's ok at my hospital so I'm happy with that.

Tbh I'm getting to the stage where I don't care. I just want a baby! I'm not bothered how he comes out, as long as he's ok and I'm reasonably alright ;) xxx

TMI post ladies...

Not sure if any of you will have experience of this, but I'm 26 weeks and I can't stop pooing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must have pooed about 6 times yesterday (not very nice ones) and twice so far today (again, not very nice ones). I'm wondering if this is hormone-related, or possibly BH related. I've had about 3 "tightenings" today but I can't tell if they are BH, or just baby moving in an odd place? I say this because when I used to get AF I used to poo loads then too - I'm assuming because it was all contracting and stuff which made my bowel have more movements?

Oh I dunno lol no point to this post really, just wanted to see if I'm alone in the pooing lol xx

You are not alone, my IBS has meant I'm going regularly anyway but it was always made worse when *week was coming due to the cramping and during pregnancy because of everything moving about it's been worse than normal! X

I've also got mild cramps going on very low down??

Hubby is all concerned because he's just spoken to his mum and she seems to think it's a sign of bloody labour?!

Ring the PAU and see what they say, although I phoned last week with the same pain and they said it's more than likely everything stretching xx

Yes I agree. Stretching down there. I also go to the loo a lot more often. Actually I did from 25-30 weeks but the past few days has been a tad more normal

Thanks ladies x just got off the phone to the maternity assessment unit and they don't seem concerned. Just to keep an eye on it. They said I'm at the stage where my uterus will be changing shape etc so could be putting pressure on my bowel. xx

I did go to the loo more often up until a couple of days ago! I have IBS too and I never had the whole pregnancy constipation thing, even with the iron tablets - up until about two days ago that is. Now? God knows what's changed but I can feels tonnes of pressure in my bum and it's really sore! Can only assume it's because I've not been able to 'do' anything for a couple of days now...
