Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Thanks for all your help ladies, I managed to speak to the GP, he said if it turns red call back immediately, but as it's only on wiping he isn't concerned, so that's that, I just have to try and relax and hope my little lady is just fine, I only have a few days until my scan so I doubt they would do anything now anyway xx Sarah my midwife only works Mondays and Tuesdays, I originally called the 9-10 line but they were the ones that weren't bothered, what I don't understand is they know due dates can be off by a few weeks so what difference does 2 days make??

Glad you got to speak to someone x
I had a red streak of blood after sex and a week later 2 days of old blood but doctor wasn't concerned about it and said it was normal.
Not long until your scan now! X

Now that's a difficult one hun! Personally I had both but if you were to ask me which is most important I would say the whooping cough one and I would advise you to def have that one.
I know what you mean about the effects etc but it's the same vaccine baby will have when she is a month old anyway so it's been tested for years. That is assuming you will get her vaccinated of course! Which again is entirely your choice but def advise it!
It doesn't cross the placenta, what happens is that your body makes the antibodies against wc and they are what get passed on.
That said there isn't an epidemic going on this year and there was when I was pregnant...13 babies under the age of 1 month old had died from wc when I was pregnant, 2 in Birmingham so it was a little close to home for me not to have it. Hope that makes sense...plus doing the job I do I get exposed to all sorts of nasties!
Can't remember how many weeks you are but if you wanted you could always have it at 36weeks (the latest you can leave it), that way she is fully grown and developed and she will still be protected by the time she makes an appearance!

The issue with wc seems to be that immunity decreases over time (as with most vaccines but this one seemingly keep so), so although we were vaccinated against it as kids, now the level of antibodies in our system isn't high enough necessarily to pass enough on to give baby protection.

All that said hun, it's your choice, you need to be happy with your decisions and not feel you have been pushed into it by anyone! Xxx
I'm 26 weeks ATM...
Definitely something to think about and great to have it explained properly without feeling like its being pushed on you...
My GP never actually mentioned the WC vaccine, just the flu one.. Which I had already decided from way before I was pregnanct I wasn't getting... Am at my GP next week so will definitely have a think and discuss it further with OH before then... Good do know its possible to get it up to 36 weeks which gives me plenty of time :)

Thanks Susie.. You're a little gem.. xxx

I did get told about antenatal classes in good time and got info re whooping cough and flu vaccine at my 28 week midwife appt. She explained that I needed to book them direct with the GP surgery so I did it pretty quickly afterwards and had them both done together at around 31 weeks. Can't fault my community midwife re: organisation at all, the only thing I ever had to chase her up for was my MATB1!

Does anyone live in the middle of nowhere? Eg country/rural? Having worked only in Birmingham I just wonder how different it might be for pregnant ladies in the country? I would imagine they get to know their midwives better..?

I'm in a city girl myself. I would imagine it is different though in smaller communities! xxx

I'm central, I bet it would be quite nice to live in a rural community xx

I grew up in rural Lincolnshire which was lovely but obviously got no experience working there as a mw...it is 25miles to the nearest Hosp tho, can't imagine that's a comfortable journey in labour and it's a loonnng way if there is a problem!

25 miles eek! Thankfully ours is around 10 minutes away with no traffic xx

Mines right! And about 90% of people I've spoke to have gone by the Chinese calendar and it's been right!

Is anyone else watching children in need :'(
