Quins; back to the plan.

Texty , I have an idea of what you are going through . I spent about 18 months trying to find out what was giving me pain in my groin/ stomach , right side of my thigh , low back. So many appointments, stages to go through. An absolute quest. Amitriptyline and other tablets didn't take the consistent , nagging, dull and sharp pains away. Eventually got the MRI done that showed 3 degenerated discs in a line. Consultant advised me to stop doing almost everything, no understanding at all of me as a person or the responsibilities I had. Worst advice ever. I stopped exercising, got and fed up really. I got back to low impact exercise and began valuing walking, off road running, careful how I lift heavy animal feed bags etc. I think I'm lucky in that the discs go through stages of degeneration, when the fluid is practically all gone then there is less inflammation. I'm probably at that stage now, I don't get the pains any more, just the occasional twinge that frightens the life out of me ( back seized up once, not funny!)

The constants pain that you cannot escape along with not knowing what causing was all consuming for me. I really hope you get some satisfaction soon.

Bloody cold up in knackerland! I froze up there last Sunday in Gateshead, jeez, it was a bout 20 in Kent and about 7 up there!

Lol @ knackerland its always cold up here bring ya thermals next time!

Its agony when the back seizes up and scary. Mine locked on the table after my MRI it was agony, I sympathise with anyone who suffers with back pain I really do.

The consultant has said my case is a difficult one because its the middle of my back, the 1st MRI showed that the problem is the left side of my back but I get the pain on the right which has stumped him?? Once he has the results he is putting my case in front of a panel to decide what to do next, IF and I stress IF It means an Op, then they need to decide whether to go in through my back or my chest wall.

He is one of the top consultants in his field so im fairly sure Im in safe hands eeekk. I'll keep you posted
Im glad you dont have as much pain now, I know where your coming from when they say do NOTHING! dont they realise people have lives to get on with.

Still here.

Been crazy busy with kids, work, home etc.

Cycling bigger miles at weekends and getting the odd midweek ride in too.

65m, 65m , 55m, then 36m plus a 5.2m run on same day.

Doing loads of miles on motorways too! Son now has a quadricep tendon injury, nightmare trying to get him sorted over the phone. He's back and forward from college to Dr, Physio, Hospital. Dr and hospital waste of time but you have to go through them to get to a consultant. All let him literally hobble away without crutches, consultant not happy!

I'm floating around the 12'10 and below mark, maintaining on or below target. Although people at work think I've list more weight, must be change of body shape due to cycling.

How you guys are all doing well.

Happy Easter.

Hi Happyholidays , sorry it should read consultant not happy that he was allowed to walk out the Dr surgery and Hospital without a knee brace and crutches. The consultant is away in France and has kindly called me to try and fix an appointment. It's a mare with my son being 160 miles away from home......

Did about 86 miles plus today on the club ride down to Rye, back via Romney Marsh, Bethersden then home. Feeling it in my legs, butt, lower and upper back. Midweek biathlon of 36 m on bike followed by an evening 5.2 m hilly run hasn't helped. I got my days muddled up, forgot that my daughter had swim squad where I normally run.

Hey oh, been eating absolutely everything fish and chips yesterday with mushy peas, home cooked ham baguettes. Chocolate milk...

Hi Quins Happy Easter - good to see your still about and keeping up the cycling. Sons injury problems sound a nightmare. I hope he gets sorted soon

What an epic few weeks. My sons rugby injury is in the mend, had my birthday on May 1st, horse box broke down and us being fixed , our old Mercedes ML towing machine is playing up and needs fixing, had to shelve work installing a log burner, got find £300 to fund a National Rugby Academy invitation ££££££££££££££££!
To cap it all I got skittles off my bike during a 74 mile Sportive on Bank Holiday Monday when a rider in front of me cut across my line , hit me and I hit the deck at about 20 mph, taking 4 other riders down. My mate ran me over too! Nasty grazes like burns, road rash. Bruised knee, elbow, hip and upper back. Elbow is quite nasty. This happened at mile 10. I was stinging like mad, another mate untangles my bike from the others, straightened my bars and I set off. It was a painful day. But I managed to get a time that qualified for a silver medal! Haven't weighed in for a while. Now trying to get some normality back into eating and routine.

Ouchhhhh to the injuries and fund finding but YAYYYY to qualifying for the silver medal - you have had a hectic time. Glad sons injury is on the mend.

I rang the hospital last week about my MRI results, apparently he has looked at them and I will get an appt in the post for JULY!!! Ages away and still suffering, the appt will be to discuss what options are available to me now re treatment or surgery. Watch this space

Hi Happyholidays , I did give it secind, third and fourth thoughts about getting back on, especially as I was stinging and hurting so much, peeled elbow is nice. I wax just swearing in pain, at the mess of bikes and bodies and the possible damage to me and my beautiful carbon bike. My drinks bottles ejected but my £250 Garmin Edge 800 sprayed in its cradle, incredible! That really was a stroke of luck considering how hard I hit the deck, handle bars skewed and a buckle in front wheel.

I can't get the a Giro , I dont have Euro sports, I am following the ladies tour on itv4 though.

Hi texty , it's a real epic trying to get those results, what a soddin palava? I hope you are coping, I know what it's like being in constant pain not knowing where it's coming from. I had some dark days, it just wears you down. Any idea at all what the options for treatment are, surgery and what else? Do you now know what's causing your pain?

I know I have a bulging disc and a spur on my ribcage - ive not seen him since he got the results so will know better in July!! pfftt.

He mentioned 2 possible options depending on results, injections which will numb the pain but not cure it, or surgery which is risky as the problem is so near small nerves, plus they need to decide whether to go in through my back or my chest wall :-( Watch this space

The pain certainly does wear you down, I had another bad bout yesterday and a funny turn in the shower this morning where I could have vomited my insides up, its weird cos it only happens when im stretching to wash my hair. So weird I only managed to shave one leg before diving out of the shower and onto the bed lol

Blimey Texty, a double whammy, bulging disc and a spur! I think the discs that were giving me grief have all emptied out and shrunk, I just get sharp pain if I make the wrong move. I also look the stages of the evolution of man if I sit down for too long. ( motorway driving..) I straighten up eventually. Not too bad on the bike, only when it's miles and miles of flat terrain. I'm sure you'll find the right course of action once your fully informed and talked it through with everyone. You will get there. X

Thanks Quins

I just wish there was an easy answer and an even easier fix! I feel for anyone who suffers with back pain I really do, its so debilitating. I feel about 90 sometimes especially if Ive sat too long lol. I'm sure it will all come out in the wash! x

Well done Quins thats fab :D

I didnt weigh this week due to being at a funeral but last week I lost 1 and im still in target whoop

I'm staying between 12'7 and12'10. This seems to vary according to the work socials ( beers...) in the week. If I don't have any socials then it gies below 12'10. Quite pleased to keep at my target.

I have been throwing in the odd 5:2 fast day. I quite like it, it makes me feel alive!

Texty, you have been bang on! Staying at target can be difficult, you're doing brilliantly. What a journey. Remember all those weeks of small gains? It all works out if we stick to it. Top effort Texty!
