Susie and Orbit's daily dribble

LOL yeah so glad you agree :D :D

Well who could believe it - two sunny days in a row?! :) Not doing anything today, laundry is done, so maybe I'll go through my books like I said I'd do yesterday lol. Amazing how much time I can waste just sitting at the computer - and how unlikely the thought that I could get up and do some exercise comes into my head....

Have found a real contender for Plan B - Living in Italy! LocationsInTheSun

I love the views and the house needs virtually nothing doing to it (maybe a paint job outside). It's in a small village in Calabria (on Italy's toe), which is an area I've always wanted to go to. I have a few days off this month so might pop over and have a look :)

Wooo, re flat. What a nightmare led yo to it. I hope all's plain sailing for you. The place in Italy looks lovely, rooms look pretty big and the view is amazing. I just know I would get stuck on the stairs though, or very giddy, LOL!!!

Please tell me more about the opera!

Thanks hun, it has been a bit of an ordeal! But hopefully this one will go through and I can settle down properly.

Re the Calabrian village house, I've been letting my imagination run wild again and am already renovating in my head!

I wondered about the spiral stairs too, particularly as I'm much wider than most people - but I suppose I could always put in a proper staircase coming down the wall where the pink (!) sofas are leaning.

And thought the bedroom on the ground floor (with a terrace) would be much nicer as a lounge, which frees up the lounge to become a dining room, which makes more space in the kitchen :D

Ah well, I've emailed the agents about the possibility of a cheeky offer, so will see what they say before making any plans.

Re the opera - I work here - Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance - and we do loads of student performances every semester. Just found out there's over 110 performances next term - and that's just the music department! Oy vey! It's classical, contemporary, musical theatre, contemporary dance, etc. Best job I've ever had :D

How about THIS? *boast coming up* I saw La Boheme at Covent Garden in 1976. Jose careras was in it, and i got his autograph. It was Magical, especially as I had loved the opera since 1966 when I was 12.

I bet you're excited about your project, I hope the cheeky offer goes in. If you moved the staircase, maybe a paddle staircase would be a go-er.

Lovely Place in Italy Susie, you should go on the tv show 'place in the sun' home or away. What about Orby, does she have a passport x

Morning Susie,

do what Val said, go on place in the sun or home or away :) I think you'll get a free holiday out of it, I'm sure that's why people go in it.

hope the cheeky offer is accepted :)

sounds like everything is going in the right direction for you on the flat front, yes I'd knock through....I like big things except my big body ;)

Wow what a moment to treasure! I know the feeling, not quite to the same level of super-opera-dom but we had Andrei Gavrilov (one of the world's finest pianists) do a masterclass, and he gave me a lovely autograph - and a big bearhug! :)

What about Orby, does she have a passport x

LOL she doesn't need one, she's English-born, unlike me!

Hope the cheeky offer is accepted :)

LOL I spoke to the agent, the lowest they will go is £30K - but that's still very cheap for the size of the property, its condition and the fact it has sea views. A dear friend of mine is considering coming in with me on it, so we shall see!!! I really hope she does, because then that means I can do the new London flat up as well.

Have a good day, lovelies!

Hi suse, hope you and orbie have been well. Glad things are looking up on the property front, especially if your friend can come in too. Good luck with securing your lovely new home x.

Woo, sounds like you are making progress eh!!! I look forward to seeing your progress. What an adventure you are on the edge of!

The thing about Careras is that in '76 I dont think he was massively famous and I truly didn't know him from Adam. It was when we moved here and I looked through the program that I realised!!!!! The reason the experience was immense was that I knew the opera so well, I knew the music and was 'with' it right the way through. Plus I was amazed at the set of the street/bar scene.

Incidentally my daughter in law is a performing arts teacher. For the wedding, she had two of the choirs she sings with (Guernsey and Essex) to sing "For the beauty of the earth" by Rutter. Wonderful, amazing, does me in every time I hear it.

Rutter is lovely, always makes me cry too :)

I'm so lucky, I get to listen to performances in the Chapel in the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich - so beautiful.

LOL Lynne it's not heaven so much when I have to go 3-4 performances a week, when I'd much rather be lolling about at home :)

Morning all

Another lovely day here! I feel quite at peace with the world today, although I'm very sleep deprived - too hot not to have the fan on at night but the Orbster hates it, so can only have it on in bursts...Lynne you haven't seen my baby (Orbit - named by her previous daddy who was an astrophysicist), here she is. A tabby, about three years old but small for her age, and as cute as a button!

Orbit is gorgeous!!!! We have had tabbies, sadly Brucie died from mysterious injuries After almost 2 weeks of vet treatment :( almost three years ago. We now have a slim ginger chap who was (literally) dropped out of a car in front of me when he was a widdy kitten. He came into our life just after our friend died. He was dumped outside our friend's villa just after the funeral. Our friend's nickname was Abbo, so Abbo it is for the kitten. Turns out, our friend was ginger in his youth.....

Oh wow that just gave me goosebumps! :)

How awful can people be, just dumping a wee kitten out of a car...but it was fate that brought you together :)

Animals are commonly dumped here. Our Elif was dumped on the road away from houses, on rough ground. I spotted her at noon, sitting looking up and down the road. Stopped car, crossed road and she ran off. I followed through a barbed wire fence, but she was nowhere to be seen. I reported it to the animal rescue, but when we returned at 10 to 6, she was back on the same spot. I stopped the car and three of us got out of the car and off she ran again. We got through the fence and looked round the rocks and the dry stream and I said to our son that if we didnt find her, she would be dead in the road by the next day. Suddenly Michael spotted her under a bush, he sat down and shuffled towards her while talking to her and she allowed him to get hold of her. Here she is..... Elif.

Ooooh she is so cute, look at her wee tail wagging :D I can see how it would be so difficult not to want to save them all, I noticed cats everywhere when we travelled around.

Boy I so don't feel like working today - hopefully our IT guys aren't monitoring my usage - rightmove, amazon, minimins, ebay LOL

My friend has decided against going halves on the Italian cottage. Now I don't know whether to try for a bank loan to get it, or just wait and keep saving. I'm scared to lose it though, sea views at that price don't come up often and if they do it's usually for a renovation project, which I can't be bothered with.

Advice?

Dress up, and hang out in DIY stores, bag a wealthy (hopefully) hunk, buy the dream place and he will do it up for you

I can't view the video at work humph! It's the same in Spain with animals. The FIL had 2 dogs thrown over his gate which he looked after as long as he could and a cat pushed through the front window of his car who he had for years. Other cats just turn up and move in but the dirt road outside can be a bit of a racetrack for locals and several have been found left for dead on the roadside. They just don't feel the same about pets.
Anyway enough doom and gloom. Get those lashes on and start fluttering :D

Sadly lisa, its the case in any countries and though I know cruelty happens in the UK too, it really IS in your face here. Not saying all Turks are same, you do see Turks walking their dogs, taking pets to the vets and caring well for their pets. There is change. But the change is slow.
