Taz's diary - Need to do this!

Exactly what I did Taz - only it was a bit worse - I started from 4lb OVER my original start weight and didn't start my ticker until I reached the start. Once you actually start its a bit easier - its getting into the zone to start with that's difficult x

Properly weighed myself yesterday and I have gained 10lb since having my knee done :cry:so I will have to lose that before I can lose anything else and there is no chance of getting into my smaller trousers before I go back to work :(

I can't seem to fight off these bugs at the moment. I had that vomiting thing (apparently that was norovirus) at the beginning of last week which soon disappeared, then on Saturday my throat was on fire. On sunday the fire subsided but my throat got really sore and gravelly and my voice was going. Then yesterday my voice was back but I have a cough and I have that annoying throat thing where it feels like you have a permanent blob of liquid stuck in it.

I was supposed to be doing a day trip to Cornwall one day this week but as it seems I can't go out without picking up a bug I'm wondering about the wisdom of that :(

Sorry to hear you're being a wonderful host to all the bugs. You have to remember you've had surgery so your immune system is going to be weaker than normal. It may be worth taking a multi vitamin supplement until you're properly mobile again and can fight back. Hope you feel better soon xx

Nomad is speaking sense Taz. It would be good to see you if you feel up to it - the other thing is that you have been "shut away" for weeks and your immune system is learning to cope with the outside world again. You may have been "bug central" for the last couple of weeks but I don't think it will continue for long once you get used to the world again. The multi-vitimin idea is not a bad suggestion - if it mixes ok with the meds you're on x

You should believe in yourself more Nomad x

It does happen sometimes Nomad! I'm not on any meds now Gem, I had one more week of ibuprofen and that's done now.

I had my second physio session yesterday and I have been cut down to one crutch! That will take a bit of getting used to but it's progress and it will help to wean me off of them! No more physio for 2 weeks now but I have plenty of exercises to be going on with and she will be looking for lots of improvement! My chiropractor was also in on the session yesterday as she wanted to see what was being done post-op on my knee. She has been looking after my knee since the beginning of the year, she was the biggest help with getting the right thing done for it so it's only right that she sees what's being done now. Chiropractors don't touch post-op so she's passed me over to her post-op specialist physio to get me back on my feet and then I will go back to her for regular maintenance.

As my knee is still swollen my physio had a look and said it should have gone down but can take time. She then said that if it doesn't go down by the time I see my surgeon again they may have to drain it
 the last thing I want or need is any more work done on that poor knee.

As my physio is next door to where I work I had a meeting with my manager after yesterdays session. He wanted to catch up with me before christmas so I thought that would be a good opportunity while I was in the area. We went to Starbucks and it was actually a very pleasant meeting. He was very understanding about the situation and said I wasn't to come back to work until I was completely fit for it but if I wanted to come back on light duties he would sort something out. I was totally honest with him about the state of my knee and what was happening with it and he was more than happy to just wait til I am ready to return to work. He said their first concern is for my health and they don't want me putting that at risk for the sake of rushing back to work. I assured him that wouldn't happen!

In other news, I'm only going to whisper this as it's a bit soon but, 3lb of that 10lb gain seems to have disappeared! I will do an official weigh in on Friday and see if I can legitimately claim that.

Ok, so it's Friday so I can officially claim it! I have lost 4lb of that nasty 10lb gain. It's not a loss as such but it means my gain is less than I first feared. So I am going into Christmas 6lb heavier than before my op. I will weigh again on the 27th as I am then away for a week and I will weigh again after that on the 4th, back to Friday weigh ins. I'm really not sure of any goals for Christmas indulgence gains as 2lb takes me into a lbage bracket I really don't want to be in but at the same time I have to be realistic. I think it's fair to gain 4lb over Christmas, then there is the holiday after. I would hope that on the 4th of January I am have gained no more than that 4lb I have just played with!

More long term, I won't be back to work til the end of January/beginning of February so I am still hoping to have lost all of the gain and another 10lb to go with it. Wish me luck!

Taz - you have done really well and you WILL get back to weightloss in the New Year. We'll have a lovely Christmas and worry about it (with realistic targets) in 2013 x

Morning all, happy Boxing Day! Did everyone have a good Christmas? I'm sure I have probably eaten too much and I'm not even going to entertain the scales yet. I will have a look tomorrow morning to see what damage I've done but then I'm away for a week so I will no doubt pick up an extra or 2. I have 2 simple aims for next Christmas, they are to be walking normally and to be at least 2 stone lighter! Ideally I'd like to be back to my lowest weight but I think that's too tall a challenge. Have a great new year everyone, I will be back in 2013 with a mission!

Me too Taz - but with very achievable goals - I refuse to set myself up to fail - 2013 is my year of achievement too x

I have assessed the damage and I have gained back 5lb of the 4lb I lost  And our holiday starts today so that's not likely to help. Oh well, I will just have to shift it all in double quick time when I get back. I'm not claiming that gain as it's not official til WI on Friday and as I won't be here on Friday I guess it will just have to wait til next week :D

Have a great new year everyone, see you all back here in 2013

The gain is Christmas Squatters - they lurk in every corner, wearing santa hats to look jolly, and then they jump on board and shout "Gottcha - Merry Squattin' Christmas" x

Happy new year everyone!

Ok, so I know it's Friday but I've had a fall out with my scales so I can't possibly believe the mean things they've said to me! I will let them stew for a week and see if they are in a better mood next Friday :D It will still be a gain but maybe a less painful one

I'm off to see the doctor this morning as my sick note ran out 2 days ago. I don't think she will be impressed at my lack of recovery but that can't be helped. I had my third physio session yesterday and she doesn't seem overly concerned about the state of my knee. She said that until my knee will straighten and the muscles begin to work again there's not a lot going to happen but I have a lot of exercises to do each day to make that happen. While I am determined to get back to work next month Mr Taz is doubting that so he asked my physio if that was possible. She pulled a face and said maybe on light duties but only if I can drive by then :( she said I will need rapid improvement in the next 2 weeks to be able to go back at the beginning of February. None of this was part of the plan! The plan was to be returning to work about now!

In other news, 5 years ago we bought a new oven and hob for our kitchen. The oven was an electric fan oven which my dad was able to fit for us with no trouble. The hob, however, is a gas one so we need it done by someone who is registered. I got a quote one time when British Gas were servicing our boiler and they said it would cost about £250 to do
 so we phoned another local company and they gave a similar quote! So as a result the hob has been sat in the bedroom in it's packaging for the last 5 years! About a month ago, finally fed up of storing a hob whilst using one that's not quite right, I looked on the Gas Safe register to find someone local. There was one in the street behind us so I emailed him for a quote and he said it would cost about £60! So I emailed him again 2 days ago to ask if he could fit it in and this morning we will finally have our hob replaced :D

Sorry to hear about the knee, hopefully the exercises will start to help soon :) and congrats on your oven hob!
