Chelsea Lou - The Ventura adventure, not a sinking ship!

Morning Yang,

I hope that is sunny and warm where you are -- and that you are enjoying that fabulous view, as you do.
Ah, it is beautifully sunny and warm here in Surrey too but the view has been pretty poor for the last two days as he's not been in the office
It is lovely and sunny here in Cambs.
DD is out the door with little Easter gifts for her teacher and classroom assistants, DH is out the door dressed for "casual Friday" in his slim fit jeans (the b*ast*rd), lol, I bet he's walking around (or should that be strutting his stuff) feeling like a new man :D and DS is still asleep (as he went out to the cinema after his class last night). Little Dog is stretched out in a sunny streak along the carpet (just like a cat) -- and I have doen some chores and am trying to talk myself into going to Zumba. However, I am starting to get that "I have so much to do and am leaving in a few days anxiety." And, keep thinking I should stay here and get something done.
Aw, my cats used to do that, follow the sunny streak around the room. I'm with you on the stay and get something done front as I stress about such things when I am going away. Once you have done it all then you can relax and really get into 'holiday' mode
I hope that you have a good weekend. And, DS says that Chelsea still has a shot at the Premiership -- so you just need to believe in the Blue!

MM
Your DS is very sensible and nice to have a bit of optimism. There is still a possibility for us to win the Prem but very slight in all honesty but the fat lady aint singing yet (probably poor choice of saying here lol) so we will have to wait and hope :D

xx

Hmmmm not happy about those Yoo yoghurts as I just bought them (£1.50 for 6 in our tesco) and I assumed they would be free like Muller light......

Hi Yang,

DS is very good that math and probability -- he says that it is very unlikely that they can win the premiership (but not impossible), so he is not giving up yet. However, he says they have better shot at the Champions League, and he hoping for that!

MM

Hun, I would have assumed exactly the same thing....like my prawn, pasta, salad bowl last week, allowing for 5 syns for the small dollop of mayo - 13 syns when I looked it up  Threw me completely. We will get the hang of it I'm sure. I just want the day to hurry up where I can put the books away :D

Yay!!!! I am leading the Augusta Master

LEADERS: -7 Yang (6), McIlroy, Quiros -6 Barnes (5) -5 Choi -4 Schwartzel (11), Kuchar -3 Couples (3), Casey (2) + five others

Plenty of birdies, no bogeys and I will look fab in the Green Jacket on Sunday :D:D

Should read Augusta Masters.......what a dope haha

Who knew a footie fan could play golf?

Thanks Lelly, although I don't know about a guru lol. I am so boring when it comes to food. I tend to go for the same old stuff.....I was the same with CD, Capuccino, Toffee and Walnut and Choc orange were the staples of my diet. It took me two years to discover the virtues of MAM for goodness sake :D

Time and tiredness are such major factors for me, with planning, shopping and cooking. If I was a housewife *sigh* I would be a right skinny (old) bird lol.

I am going to have a little study of my book - I remember from SWing years ago that there was lots of 'ding meals' that were free food, I know that's not ideal but I would rather do that then be too tired to cook/eat properly and then start piling on the weight.

So what do you have lined up for today? Loads of appointments I bet. You must be a very popular CDC and it is easy to see the reason why... you are always so full of enthusiasm and encouragement. More power to your elbow Lelly and cwtch (did I get that right lol?) xx

sorry hun only just read this reply from 2 days ago, didn't mean to ignore it! Thanks for the lovely comments hun, that's so nice, i hope i help people with my encouragement n enthusiasm, most people seems to get on well, but same as with any diet though, people fall off the wagon, i try to help but really it has to come from the self. I seem to be busy in and out depends on the season and the weather ;) but I glad people mostly are happy to come back to me, I like to leave the door open and welcome them back no judging, after all I was once in their shoes (and still feel like i am sometimes:rolleyes:)

Lots of 'ding' meals in my house but they are frozen from previously made meals I purposely make too much and freeze some for quick dinners esp if i'm working late, very handy.

Hope you are having a good evening hunny
xx

Ahhhh.... golf! A long walk spoilt? :D

Sorry to be dim, but WHAT was the verdict on prunes again? I kept reading that post and could only guess 444 syns but that can't be right? (Think I haven't woken up yet... oops).

Have a fab weekend Chels.

xxx

dried ones have syns but the fresh ones in juice (not syrup) dont I think was the verdict. The 444 was 4 syns on each plan for the dried ones.

Hope Chelsea do better against Wigan today than Tottenham did last week (was a 0-0 draw)...... but then again I dont really want Chelsea to win...... ha ha.

Thanks GE, I am so dense! I just couldn't process the 444 (seemed a bit steep, even for dried fruit!).

Morning Chels,

I hope you have recovered from last night and enjoy watching the match, whatever the outcome. (I am not choosing sides as I do not want to offend Linda.... besides you are doing so well in Masters that green jacket ought to be enough.)

MM

Hi Chels, hope you are enjoying the sunshine too. xx

Hi everyone,

Have finally felt recovered enough from last night's excesses to be able to type up today's diary. We had way too much wine to drink but spent the whole night laughing like drains. At what, I'm not sure, but there was a whole crowd of us in the end and we just could not stop. Very therapeutic. Jess looked very happy and it was hysterically funny on the jay walk home. :D:D

I got the scales out of the car this morning and weighed myself (yes, I did take them upstairs to the flat first lol) and they show a 1lb loss for the week, which is still 2lbs up from before I started SW. I know I had wine yesterday but even so I have got the hump.:cry:I feel certain that it is just fluid retention from boozing so will not panic but if I don't see something positive over the next couple of days..I might have to resort to Plan C *sigh*

Todays food so far has been 2 slices Hovis Nimble bread (HExB) scraping of light spread

Eggs, bacon and baked beans for lunch (all free)

2 muller light yogurts (free)

Milk in Tea/coffee (HExA)

2 bananas (free)

Dinner will be couscous, salad, with a couple of hard-boiled eggs. I was going to have a pork chop with new potatoes and a selection of vegetables but not sure I can be bothered to put the oven on.......just too hot.

I have been reading a diary over on the SW section by a man called Dave who has lost over 100lbs since September '09 on SW. His story is an incredible one and SW obviously does work. He stuck entirely to Green days and it was only when he was about 7 stones down that he opted for a couple of EE weeks. Maybe GE is right about too much food, although looking at Dave's menus, he ate loads. He did discover a passion for cycling, swimming and the wii fit and considering I spend nearly all day every day sitting on my bott, its not surprising that he lost loads and I seem to be gaining.

Confused.com ...........again:confused:

I hope you are all well and having a fab time with the glorious spring weather. xxx

Stick with it Lovey, I bet it's just water weight from the vino. I can hardly believe SW either, but it does work, now I've stopped mucking about even my scales are going down.

Your food looks good to me. xx

Hi Chels,

You are tiny: only 5'2' and 151lbs. Also, you are a more mature individual (like myself).

According to the NHS website and your posted stats,

Your BMR is
1,345
calories a day

BMR Calculator - Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator (BMR)

This is your Basic Metaboloic Rate. This is what your body burns to maintain basic function. Any additional expenditure, even just sitting and typing burns a little fuel may be added to this basic caloric intake. To lose one pound, you must burn 3,500 hundred more calories than you consume.

I estimated your menu for yesterday to be:

Todays food so far has been 2 slices Hovis Nimble bread (HExB) scraping of light spread
about 200 calories

Eggs, bacon and baked beans for lunch (all free)
Harder to estimate, as no quantities are given but a guestimate is:
520 calories (two eggs, 1/2 cup baked beans, two slices of bacon, a little oil)

2 muller light yogurts (free)
220 calories

Milk in Tea/coffee (HExA)
75 calories (guestimate)

2 bananas (free)
210 (if medium)

Dinner will be couscous
176 (for one cup cooked)

Salad
Hard to know -- with dressing can be fairly high, olives, chickpeas, etc.? But, let's go with about 100 (guesstimate) before dressing is counted

with a couple of hard-boiled eggs
152 calories

I was going to have a pork chop with new potatoes and a selection of vegetables but not sure I can be bothered to put the oven on.......just too hot.

Hi Chels,

Going with low ball guesstimates and not thinking of the calories for dressing, etc. This is about 1600 calories. Way too much for anyone on a diet. f you eat like this every day you will gain about a 1/2 to 1 pound a week.

CFF was told to consume 1,500 calories a day whilst recovering from her surgery. She is 5'11" and ten years younger than you are -- her doctor said that she should still lose a little weight on this diet (she has about 5 stone to lose).

This is why diets like WW No Count and Slimming World do not work well for everyone. I never found One Size fits all to be true. One size fits most, yes... but not all.

For people our size (we have one liter engines) we have to use calorie counting, carb counting, and PORTION CONTROL in order to lose and maintain our losses.

I use CD for a couple of meals a day because it is easy (and I feel I need to see my CWPC and be weighed regularly). But, I also use Low GI and Low Carb, plus measure out everything for my "regular" food.

These are all things that Beck recommends that we do: and I know it works. DH is living proof. He has dropped two pounds this week (the b#st#rd). He has gone from 198 on January 2nd to 162 this morning. He has had three meals and two snacks a day (and does not drink enough water, and only started doing exercise, the elliptical, for about 30 to 45 min, three times a week a few weeks ago). He is 53 and only 5'6".

I do not mean to be discouraging, but I hate to see you trying so hard only to have it not work well. Slimming World's food can work you (just as the ALL-ECLAIR diet can), but only if you watch the calories in/calories out. Also, have berries and melon not bananas. Watch the carbs.

I have my CD packets and MAM mix in a bag, and my porridge packets and small baggies of slivered almonds in a bag -- so that is breakfast and a late night snack sorted for the 9 days in the U.S. My lunches and dinners will be one South Beach Bar (I'll get those in the US) or salad, and one South Beach Low GI/Low Carb (CD810/1000) meal whilst I am in the US. I am hoping to STS or even have my usual one to two pound loss.

Planning is essential -- I have decided to allow myself only two visits to IHOP (and will cut back on other days and exercise more), and then make good choices otherwise.

A new ARC will read: I deserve to be thin and healthy more than I deserve that Peanut Buster Parfait from Dairy Queen!

Hi Chels - Don't go by the scales the morning after a night out!!! That's madness ;)

I bloat massively after drinking alcohol and even just a couple of glasses can make me put on a lb or two the day after. They come off straight away though as it's just your body getting rid of the alcohol and retaining water while it's doing it.

Give it a few weeks and keep a food diary. If you still struggle then you can really look through your diary and see what changes you can make. For example, I can't eat too many bananas as my weight loss slows down. Increasing super free food is another great way of changing things around and boosting weight loss. Maybe have some (dry) fried mushrooms or grilled tomatoes with your lunch instead of the beans - that kind of thing.

For now though, just trust that it works. I've always struggled with SW but not because it doesn't work but because I start applying the free food theory to all foods which clearly isn't good.

Wise words from Alli, I agree... give it a fair try and don't decide just after a night of drinks. Whatever plan you were on, those drinks would probably have shown up on the scales, and we know we are all looking at very gradual losses on SW. In my case, they were very gradual (sometimes non-existent) on CD as well, so tread carefully... rushing back to 'safety' of CD is not necessarily the answer. In my case CD was no longer viable, triggering binges that caused me to gain. Those have gone on over last few weeks but now I am ready to give SW a fair try... it's scary because for me I know CD isn't a safety net any more. I don't want to hop from one plan to another in a panic, though... I know SW can work if I do it properly. It worked for me before, and it is a sustainable plan... I have to give it my best shot.

It may not be right for you, Chels, but give it a fair try... be calm and don't panic. Nobody is allowed to walk the plank, OK?

Big hugs.

xxx

Thanks Bess, Mel, Katy, Alli for your messages.

Mel, I will answer your post, regarding calories, and I'll do it in red so we know who is saying what lol.

Todays food so far has been 2 slices Hovis Nimble bread (HExB) scraping of light spread

Eggs, bacon and baked beans for lunch (all free) Three rashers of bacon, no oil and two eggs, poached, no oil. One whole can  of Heinz baked beans.

No dressing added to the salad.

Like you say Mel, when you add up the calories, then it is a lot for a diet. When you go with the SW flow of free food, eat as much as you like of..........not so sure. Having said that, I have been eating a lot of fat free yogurts and fruit. Today, for instance, I had a largish bunch of grapes, which on a calorie counting diet would probably not be a good idea. Lots of natural sugar in grapes. This whole thing is just a bl**dy confusing nightmare. I got on the scales this morning and the lb gain is still there.

Tonight I had two small pork chops with a couscous salad. Lunch was the Sainsburys Moroccan Chicken couscous salad, two muller light yogurts.

A hefty stint of digging in DD1s garden today, digging out a 12' circle on which to lay the children's pool. Hard graft in the heat - turns out after all the digging, raking and levelling, laying out the liner and finally getting the pool out, DD1 remembered that they only had a 10' pool. So about 1 and a half hours of toil could have been avoided lol. Hoping that all that work would have used up any excess calories consumed.

I really appreciate everyone's support. Thank you all so much xxx
