JanD's Maintenance Diary. Week 38 onwards.

I can do Sat to Sun, but I can catch the train back to home on the Sunday :) :) :)

Eh - Jan, I can bring my roll bed, which has everything I need to sleep !!!! No need for washing sheets with me ;-)

I really don't mind how we do it - as long as we do it! ;):) ... washing a few sheets is neither here nor there really is it! It's not like I'll be standing at a washtub with a dollypeg .... Tanya don't even ask!!!! :) Or anyone else for that matter!!!! :) xx

Tuesday 11th May (Happy Birthday DH :))

Breakie - fresh pineapple, a bit of granola for substance & crunch & ff from frais.
Had that early coz of getting up with John to do his breakie (God I'm good! ;):)) so by the time i got to my mother's to take her shopping I was hungry so about 11am I had a piece of toast with Phili light with chives.

Lunch - In Sainsbury's I shared a BLT with Mum (approx 230 cals for the half) and when we got back to her house & put the shopping away I had one of her little mini magnum ice creams (118 cals)

When I got home I had 2 melba toasts with phili light

So I'm having a bit of a grazing day aren't I?

We're off to a greek taverna for a meal tonight so I think there'll be 2 courses and some wine and a bit (!?!) of birthday cake later.

As I've said before I just hope my brain doesn't flip into holiday mode what with a greek meal and going away on Monday  .... Ah well ... this time last year I remember saying I was sorry we couldn't go out for a meal for his birthday (I was TFRing) but I'd be able to enjoy it this year - and I intend to! :) xx

And I hope you do enjoy it tonight Jan!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE ;-)!

You know Jan, yes, you are grazing but it isnt bad stuff; if it were pastries, chocolate and really high fatty foods then yes, it would be worrying, but you are always careful as to what you graze on (usually)!

Anyway, I am up for it if everyone else is :)

Dolly peg, oh dear, Jan, you really are showing you age, although in fairness I remember the twin tub, and we even had a mangle and the gongs when I was growing up!!!! With the old belfast sink!!!! Now, I am showing my age..haha...

Anyway, enjoy tonight and look forward to hearing what you had!

I've had a pear now too :) - as you say Iris - not bad stuff - not yet ;)

I acually remember using the old dollypeg in the corrugated wash tub - and then the mangle ... don't know what gongs are though. As for twin tubs - that's what I had when I had my eldest son. I'd washed everything by hand up until then. When I was pregnant I told my husband we'd have to get a washing machine and he said - what for? HaHa --- and there weren't disposabe nappies then - well there were but they were just like big rectangles, were useless, extortionately expensive and made their bums REALLY sore!

God I'm old :( xx

OMG!!! This is it - almost exactly! Our washtub was a little more barrel shaped ... I'd forgotten about the tongs - these exact ones! .... I didn't wear the pinnie or the hat though ....
I'm beginning to think either my parents were really behind the times or I'm actually remembering a past life LOL!!!

mmmmmmmmm......does sound nice! I bet you are stuffed now :candledinner: (YOU AND HUBBY)

:giggle: what are you two like!!!!!

You both are mad.

I remember the double sink in the kitchen, one shallow sink for dishes, and one deep sink for washing clothes. The old scrubber board was then used for rubbing the clothes.

Another memory is I remember my Mum getting her first ever spin dryer, it was just a little single thing about 1 foot in diameter, and we laughed so much. I was only about 5 and she put clothes in this thing, and it bounced all around the kitchen, she called it the Dalek after that.

Wash days I remember them!!!! Oh, how I hated them.....my mum had 5 kids so you could imagine!!!!!!! it seemed to go on for hours and hours and I remember you had to move the tub out into the kitchen floor which meant there was no room to even move as we had a very tiny, longish kitchen!

The double sink, yes with the wash board and I think you could only buy one or two different types of washing powder, cheap or expensive!! haha.......my word, we really are showing our ages...here was me thinking I was a young thing as well

Oooh and freezing times at night, with itchy blankets. I loved the flanelette sheets though. No central heating in those days.

blankets and coats on occasions with water filled bottles as hot water bottles!!!!!! Ice on the windows, and I mean ice!!!! I even remember sleeping all layered up it was that cold :) Dont want those days again that is for sure.
