JanD's New Year, New Start, Maintenance Diary

Off to toddler group soon - catch you all tonight I hope xx

Certainly not me - as I say I've never owned a pair ... I remember people talking about doing that though. My mother took me clothes shopping in Evans from when I was about 12 or 13 and in those days they weren't a BIT fashionable! Hence all the elastic! xx

Were you overweight as a kid then Jan? That must've been awful....I thought that you meant you didn't have any jeans now, not that you'd never worn them:eek: what you've never had you, supposedly, never miss!

Vanessa, do you remember Sasperella (sp?) stretch jeans? Mine were a size 8.......those were the days!

Yep - the first time I became aware of my weight I was 12 and I was 12.5st. However I was only about 7 I think when I had hospital investigations to see why I was so big ..... I can remember the excruciating embarrassment of going up and down a couple of steps in my vest & pants in front of the doctor so he could test my heart rate. They didn't find anything - I don't think anyone told my mother not to feed me so much though :( xx

OMG yeah, I think I had one of their Jean jackets too, cream with paisley pattern inside ... and yeah, size 8 (which of course was way smaller than a size 8 now lol! When I was talking to my friend about this recently, we remembered a pair of her jeans i used to borrow that were so tight, I got diarrhoea every time I wore them! How the hell did we wear them like that without belly bulge over top (should have been of mountainous proportions given how we squeezed in) lol

Well done on the loss Jan, another good week for you. I'm sure you'll lose all that you want to in time for Australia!

Obv I don't remember but my mum has told me all about the jeans she used to have like that! She used to get someone to pull the zip up with pliers!!!!!! I've seen pics too & there's not even an ounce of a belly bulge on her!! Xx

Oh you poor little soul, I only remember there being one little fat girl in my class, both at primary and secondary school. They used to get teased mercilessly, there are so many more overweight kids these days that it's quite common-place. My best friend says that she was always the same weight as her age, she lost it all in her teens and is skinny now!

Well done on finally getting to grips with it:D

I was that fat person! I used to get called Titanic Tanya!!!! They still carried on with that name when I eventually lost my 'puppy fat' and was slimmer than I am now in my last couple years of secondary.

Ah I'm gonna be crying soon:cry::cry::cry: x

Oh God "puppy fat" ... reading that actually made me cringe!!! I'd forgotten ... :( - I heard it so often .. when I think about it now how much must the adults have been discussing it for it to be so clear in my memory???!!!

Thanks Sandra - I just hope this time is the last time .. I don't think I could do it again xx

And why do they call it 'puppy fat'? Puppies are cute and cuddly, poor little fat kids are tragically sad......I really despair when I see fat kids walking to school in the morning clutching a bag of crisps for breakfast......

I really don't know, never thought about it - the belief was that all kids were chubby and suddenly it would all drop off - why that makes it 'puppy fat' I haven't a clue. I also used to wonder - if all kids had it how come I was the only one I knew???

Still! All in the past now. :) xx

Can anyone else, not Tanya or Emma of course, remember wearing jeans in the 70's that were so tight that you had to lie on the floor, put a coat hanger in the zip and get someone else to zip them up for you? Or wear them in the bath so they shrank really tight! Can't remember how we used to go for a pee.......

I think I'd prefer elasticated waists these days eh Jan;)

Sandra, sure do remember. My God, what women would suffer. Those were the days before elastene which gives them the little stretch nowadays.

OMG, I was another one with Puppy Fat. I was about 8 stone when I was 10 and compared to the others in the class, I was the biggest. But when I was about 4 ( I dont remember this) but my Mum took me to the Doctor about my weight, and he said, "Oh its just puppy fat, it will fall off".

I also remember getting my friend to pull up my zip on my jeans as I lay on the floor breathing in. Another laugh I remember when I was about 16. My Dad asked me to run down to a house down the street to put his 'Pools Coupon' on, as I was running back home, my flares (trousers about 28 inches wide at the bottom) my right trouser leg got caught on my left leg and I went flying. No knees in the trousers and skinned knees!

Hahahaa sorry Mary but that image is pretty funny :giggle:

I had some of those too Mary, they had really high waists and lots of little buttons inside and out.....very useful when grappling with teenage boys, no sooner had they undone one set of buttons then they'd start on the other and give you a chance to do the first lot up!

And cheesecloth shirts with huge flappy collars.......at least our fashion was brand spanking new, not recycled like today's! I'll try and scan a photo of me aged 15, I weighed 7 1/2 st (was 5'6") and had a 22 inch waist....I'm about the same size as Victoria Beckham. WTF happened? That's what I'd like to know!

Oooo Mary .. OUCH!!! ;) I loved flares and cheesecloth, maxi skirts/dresses and coats ... :sigh: ... just an old hippie at heart ;)
