JANUARY MONEY CHALLENGE!

We are thinking about getting a cheap caravan, worked out we spend roughly £6-700 a year on dog sitters (not including abroad holidays) so in a couple of years it will have paid for itself.
Has anyone had one?
Also looking towards more abroad villa holidays than hotels, has anyone had any experience of those? I checked out James Villas on Trip Advisor and didn't see any good reviews, but have had people saying going direct to owners they can be a much nicer holiday? X

I'd love a caravan but just never got round to buying one.

yep I've send private villas for hols, usually in Florida we use Owners Direct website.

Oh that's a good idea.

I was saying to OH earlier if we get £100 compensation off the boss re our wages I'm going to........... & he interrupted me & said spending money for hols:eek:, no way, politely I said it was going in a seperate pot for our Trans Siberian trip, whenever that maybe.

Head is spinning after spending hours looking at figures with hubby lol
Need to look at best account options now!

Lol at no way! If you already have spend sorted I suppose best to put in your other pot!

We used to have a touring caravan but unfortunately had to sell it when we moved house due to lack of money.. It was an expensive one though  it wasn't just paying it off, it was the storage costs too and the insurance each month.....

But it was great with the dog! We had a huge awning on the side with his crate in... Which was fab for wet and muddy walking boots. Some caravan sites won't let you leave the dog in the caravan or awning though.. So doggy has to be with you wherever you go... But you soon get used to it.

The caravan club sites are the best... Nice and clean and well looked after.

We loved our caravan holidays! And would definitely recommend them! Xx

Lot is tiring looking at figs.

thing is OH provides the spending money for hols!!!!!!!!

I think it's crazy prices for shoes, but what the hey, some people say the same about gadgets :D

She will need to make a lot of lunches to get some jimmy choos!! But good on her for making a change and going for something she really wants!

We were chatting about money & it was a shock to her when she worked out how much she spent in 1 month on lunches & then when she worked it out for the year, she was amazed and even more so when she has been after Jimmy Choo shoes for years & the thought she could actually own some just by not going to the shop lunch was unbelievable.

Worked out yesterday that we can afford a holiday this year if we stick the our budget!!
We`ll still be able to save as well.
Just need to stay focused!! :)

I have come into work this morning to find out that I won the sweepstake we did for a colleague going on maternity leave :) Its only about £18 but I NEVER win stuff so I am thrilled to bits.

That is going straight into my bucket list pot (but I dont feel guilty as on Friday bf will get paid and I will make an extra payment on my credit card balance - first time I will have paid anything over the minimum since I got the card last May!)

My pet insurance is due for renewal & I got the renewal docs through a couple of weeks ago, normally I just let it continue, but I've just checked the schedule & because Phoebe is over 6 years of age the excess is £100 + 20% the premium itself hasn't gone up too much, anyways I've done a quote, like for like, & it's £6.68 with £99 excess, so I'm going for that & going to put the £2.49 per month saved into my Trans Siberian fund, happy days:D

Ours renews in March... I'm dreading what it'll be as Alfie has had to have more treatment over the last year.. The first year it was £15 a month, 2nd year £22, surprisingly in the 3rd year only £23...Think they realised that he's getting the correct treatment for his condition... But had a flare up over the summer so I think it will go up this time

My dad had a bit of a result today.
He insures his house with the AA and was given a quote of £184.
He was in his bank for another matter, he banks with Lloyds.
While there he got a quote from them £136!!

He took the bumph home to have a read and phone the AA bank.
Explained about the quote from Lloyds and promptly got a better quote from the AA.
This time it was £117!!

Big difference from £184!! :)
