JANUARY MONEY CHALLENGE!

A few years ago we were very short of cash & I didn't want to stay at home for our two week holiday so I bought the Sun & used their 'holidays from £9.50' vouchers, they are amazing, 4 adults we went to Italy for 4 days, then France for 1wk it cost £600 including flights there & euro train back, we also went to Barcelona which was equally as cheap, I think it was £200, definitely worth looking at.

On a different note you're better off bf not helping with the hols, mine tries to help but he is so indecisive he is irritating, I just tell him what we are doing!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm doing exactly what I said I would, no unnecessary money being spent, my boss is helping me out with this by not paying the wages (long story)!!!

I do need to get my brother a birthday pressie & that's it apart from the things I'd normally buy.

I'm not doing the jars as we already have a tin for 'leftover' money. I've also found out I can add a saving account to my online bank & change the name of the account, so I'm going to open two, one for birthdays, car, Christmas & the other for any leftover money which can go towards our trans Siberian holiday, I realise this holiday will be in a few years, but I'm happy with that, it will happen.

Ooh aren't you with Barclays? Can I ask how you do that please as I'm with them x

Am putting money in my pots but today both my kettle and toaster died so had to replace them, as did my computer but thankfully I managed to fix that one!

I didn't know you could get holidays abroad with the sun deal, that's a handy thing to know ;)

yep i I am, when you go online, on the left the blue bar which says accounts, nxt to it is a tab which says edit, click that & it brings the accts up for editing, now I've not tried it yet, but when I played it looks like it did.

I make it a priority to pay my credit card bill in full when it is due. I do not like debt - if I do not have I do not spend.

Cook all my meals from scratch. Also batch cook. Use good quality food and hardly ever throw anything out.

Do not drink (possibly 1 glasses on a special occasion) - so no problem spending in that area

Take my own lunch every day as works out cheaper and healthier

Buy meat when on special offer and put in the freezer.

entertain family & friends about twice a month and go out to a restaurant once a month.

First thing I do when my salary is credited to my account, divide it 6 ways - 50% to pay bills and the rest as savings for holidays, buying big things 9this year is double glazing), eating out, birthdays, long-term savings.

Sorry if I sound sad but I save before I purchase.

Am wishing I'd saved the sun tokens now lol

Don't know if I mentioned on here but hubby is getting a cash prize for some work he's done and because it's a prize doesn't have to pay the cash on it so it's going to be more than we originally thought :D thats going to come in handy!

They're out now.

Do you want the online booking codes sending across? xx

I don't thanks, but maybe Emsie would? xx

Hmmm, when are the dates the hols have to be booked in do you know?x

You usually give them your dates an can area u like, and then they tell you what's left. At least that's what happened last time anyways, could've changed lol
I think I only paid the £9.50pp at the booking stage and then I had to ring the company direct and pay the remaining balance (which was £80 so I didn't because silly me thought it was all in for the £9.50 and I didn't have enough money at the time) x

I think you have to give them a choice of dates, and you get what you get but it will be in the dates you've given them x

Yeah but there are dates that you choose from first those are what I don't know, sorry not explaining it very well. Because I have booked with them before I get to do it online which means you get more of an idea straight away if your dates are available but I think I have chucked the form away thinking I wouldn't be using it ...whoops!

Thanks both for the help!

I was glad to get to Aldi/Farmfood and do my shopping this week, first time since the Christmas period etc got some nice stuff for meals and stocked up pretty well, really want to make the effort to use up stuff in my freezer over the rest of the month as theres stuff in there thats been around a while and that should save me some money though there will be some stuff that I will have to buy weekly too.

Am also going to get hubby to look at money with me and see how we can divide the money up and maybe open another account if necessary after seeing some of the suggestions made on here :)
