MWWWD (or Moonwatcher's Weight Watchers Diary!)

Well there is no getting away from it - wheat is still a no-no for me unless I want to put up with the discomfort. In the past, if I had reached a sort of 'wheat overload' point, I could cut it out, or right down, for a while and then re-introduce some without too much trouble. I am obviously more sensitive to it now. I had hoped that I could get away with it this week by having some each day, but I am bloated and in pain each day from it. I have gluten free crumpets, wraps, seeded loaf and ciabatta rolls in the freezer and the and the real bagels are finished (sob, sob, haven't found gf bagels yet). So it's back to the experimenting with some gluten free flours and the breadmaker.

Oh no Hun that sounds so painful hope your ok and at least you have a few bits in the freezer that you can eat instead of wheat

I am sure you could make your own bagels with the gluten free flours. I used to made homemade bagels most saturdays before i opted to spend the morning in the gym instead. Homemade are definitely much much nicer, and if they don't cause the discomfort that would definitely be a bonus.

That salad sounds gorgeous *contemplates whether she can get to Norfolk for lunch time*. Pictures would be very good. I am also loving the sound of your fruit bowl.

Waking up naturally without the alarm is a lovely feeling. I didn't wake up until just gone 8am this morning which is a very long lay in to me as i am usually awake before 6am when at work. Back to it on Monday :( Grrrrr.

I've only got myself to blame really - I know I should avoid it, but it's easier and cheaper, and often tastier to eat wheat rather than wheat free. I obviously can't tolerate it as much now though, so time to bite the bullet (as long as it is a wheat free bullet!) My waist measurement goes up by 2 -3 inches with the pain and bloating, so that should be enough to make me change my ways really - vanity, rather than pain!

Will investigate and experiment on the bagel front. If it is going to be a permanent thing I am hoping to make more of my own supplies, both for taste and cost. Reports on Google seem pretty varied about how successful the bagels are, so will need to read up a bit more. I think sometimes with these things you need to approach them as a food item in their own right, and try not to compare them too much with the 'normal' version. For instance, the gluten free crumpets I have are nothing like a 'real' crumpet to be honest, but they are very tasty, and OH even preferred them. If you are hoping or expecting them to be the same, then you'll probably be disappointed.

The salad will be on the table in about an hour. Late lunch as we had a late breakfast and then sat in the garden planning the shade 'sails' for our gazebo. Actually I need to go and get it started, as OH is cutting up wood outside and I am beginning to feel slightly guilty about extending my siesta any longer!

Yes, love waking up naturally. OH's alarm is usually at 4.45, so anything after 5.00 is quite a luxury!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. 5 weeks until your next holiday will fly by.

I think viewing "substitues" as a food in their own right rather than a version of the orginal in always the best way to go. I love lots of vegetarian foods, vegan chorizo and even don't mind some vegan cheeses. As long as I view them as foods in their own right. A 2-3 inch waist measurement gain has got to be good motivation though - that sounds very painful and very annoying!

So, food for Friday 26th July

Breakfast - one fried egg on gluten free toast, with baked beans, fried tomatoes and a squirt of hp sauce, fresh grapefruit segments and a tspn of yogurt (8PP)

Breakfast!.jpg

Late lunch (as breakfast was very late) - 'The Salad' - roasted baby red peppers, baby asparagus spears roasted with pepper and lemon juice, and fresh figs, topped with goat's cheese and balsamic vinegar and blackcurrant dressing, served with a mixed salad, herbs, sweetfire beetroot and a gluten free ciabatta roll - ab-sol-ute-ly delicious! (8PP)

The Salad.jpg

Didn't need the sea bass in the evening after that little lot, so had half a gluten free wrap with grated cheddar and branston pickle, one medium sweet corn with butter and black pepper, and a bowl of strawberries with a drizzle of cream (10PP)

Snacks - half a Nakd coco delight bar (2PP)

Drinks - water, one earl grey with a splash of s/s milk, one coffee with cream (2PP)

So total = 30PP, 29 dailies and my one weekly - that's all my weeklies and dailies used, and a few APs earned but not used.

WI tomorrow! It is my OH's birthday too, so a few weeklies will be consumed I'm sure - good job it's the beginning of a new week!

A random pic of my 'baby', giving me her best 'Did you ask permission to take my photo?' pose!

WI shows 2.8 lbs off, which I'm very happy with as I am still very bloated (look pregnant - deep joy!) and know I am carrying some water weight because of it as my rings are tight, so nearly 3 pounds is good enough I reckon!

The salad was fantastic, and very different with the blackcurrant dressing. The pic didn't really do it justice because the plate was so full! LOL.

OH has had his main pressi - a new all-singing, all-dancing camera. Still waiting for some accessories for it as had some problems with them. He has still trying to decide where he wants to go, but food will definitely be involved!

Excellent news on the loss. Nearly 3lb is fantastic, especially after doing low carb previously. And very good use of your remaining weeklies at the end of the week.

Love the picture of your cat. She is adorable :) She's definitely giving you the "human, what on earth are you doing" look. What's her name?

The salad looks lovely. So lovely in fact that i am now changing my lunch plans from leftover vegi mexican stew to chicken, beetroot and goats cheese salad. Was the dressing homemade or bought? Sounds really nice. I have some raspberry vinegar that I bought a few months ago which i am loving on salads. I don't generally like fruit and savoury things, but in salads in seems much more acceptable.

Hope your OH has a really nice birthday. Any food plans for the day?

Thanks Atomic. Our cat is called Purdy - she was already named when we got her, so although it wasn't the name I would have picked we stuck with it. She was 'pre-owned' but not very loved sadly, so at the start she was angry and scared and lashed out a lot. She quickly realised she could trust us and has mellowed a lot, but I think sometimes she 'forgets' and reverts back to her old behaviour. I can always sense the change, but OH isn't so good at noticing it, and has been 'Purdied' several times. It was not for nothing that when we first got her she was fondly known by us and our friends as 'Purdy the Fang!'

The salad dressing yesterday was home made - cooked blackcurrants with balsamic vinegar, a little lime juice and some sweetener.

Food report for the day coming up soon!

Saturday 27th July

OH's birthday, so meal out, ice cream and biccies have been the order of the day. Some weeklies gone, but that is what they are there for and I am quite pleased about my choices overall

Breakfast - cocoa orange Nakd bar and 3 gluten free digestives with our tea (8PP)

Lunch - at what is becoming one of our favourite haunts - The Outback Australian Restaurant. Kangaroo rump steak, half a jacket potato with a squirt of mayo, stir fried veggies, one halloumi and veg kebab, a bundaberg diet non alcoholic ginger beer. Guestimated this at 21 PP, allowing for the oil with the veggies. Couldn't finish it, so brought some of the kangaroo steak home for the cat, who was very, very impressed! 2 apricots in van on way home for a siesta.

Then we went to the coast for a tea time walk - and two scoops of ice cream (turkish delight flavour and caramel flavour) with a small hot chocolate (12PP)

Other snacks and drinks - 3 gluten free ginger biscuits with a coffee and cream, small glass of a crabbies type beer, a peach and an apricot (9PP) water, diet pepsi max

So totals for today = 50 PP, 29 dailies and 21 weeklies. Remaining weeklies - 28

Sounds like a lovely yummy day yesterday and ironically enough I had kangeroo last night as well :)

Awwwww, nice that Purdy has mellowed a bit now. How long have you had her? We've had both of our cats since they were tiny kittens and my female cat, Silly, is still a little madame sometimes. She's incredibly friendly and affectionate and happy to be picked up and cuddled but if you try and move her from your lap when she doesn't want to move she has no hesitation in scratching or biting. And she doesn't have the excuse of ever being anything other than a very spoilt and adored kitty. I think its a female thing as our male cat is perpetually chilled and purring and wouldn't dream of scratching anyone.

Kangaroo? Now that's something I'd love to try what's it like?

I would say its somewhere between venison and beef but with a slightly "grassy" flavour to it.

We've had her for about 9 years now, and she was about 18 months when we got her. Poor girl was so jumpy and therefore aggressive because of being scared I think. There are cuddles, but NEVER unless she decides it - no point in picking her up for a cuddle - unless you want skinned forearms! Definitely no tummy rubs - I think even now that is too vulnerable for her to deal with - but for some reason she does like having her ears pulled for a while. She is OK generally though - let's just call her feisty!

Definitely a bit like a venison and beef cross - not sure about the grassy flavour, but I suppose that may differ depending on how it's raised and what it is fed on. I have had it as 'roo bourguignon and as a plain steak now. Of the two I preferred the bourguignon. It is a tasty and lean meat, but I think for steak I'd choose a good rib eye of beef in preference.

Sunday 28th July

What a mixed day of weather today. First thing this morning it was squally, dark and wet, then about lunchtime the sun was shining and we ate outside, by 6.00 we were sheltering in a shop doorway as it poured down and flooded the High Street where we were. Then out came the sun and blue skies again as we drove home!

Food for today...

Breakfast - gluten free biccies - 4 small ones - actually it seems that most of the gluten free biscuits are small ones! (4PP)

Lunch here
Priory Maze and Gardens | Cafe

I had fishcakes (one sea bass, lime and ginger, one Thai cod and prawn) with salad and a couple of new potatoes, and two small cappuccinos. (17PP, including the cappuccinos).

Wandered round the garden for a couple of hours, including getting lost in the maze! Then drove down to the seafront to get ice cream at 'Pungleperrys'. They make their own ice cream - I managed to restrain myself from having a scoop of every single flavour and stuck to a small scoop of coconut and lime (toasted coconut flakes and candied jelly lime chunks - yum) with a a small glass of cold lemonade - not diet, but again home-made on the premises. Sometimes you just have to don't you? (5PP)

Snacks/drinks/other stuff at home - diet coke, water, teas (1PP for milk, as more than usual) half a packet of crisps (3PP) 3 oatcakes with houmous, (5PP) fresh lychees, greengages, cherries

Total = 35PP - 29 dailies and 6 weeklies. Weeklies remaining 22

Monday 29th July

Breakfast - 2 gluten free digestive biscuits, couple of dessertspoonfuls of Greek yogurt with a tspn of dessicated coconut and a sprinkling of dried mixed fruit (7PP)

We didn't have a lunch as such, as we loaded up the van with yet another load of hedge from our massive hedge reduction exercise (!) and set off to the dump with it, then on to collect a tripod for the new camera. So I packed up a picnic for us to have en route somewhere, and picked up a few nibbles at Lidl on the way...

Picnic in Thetford Forest - gluten free pitta bread, houmous, one slice of peppered salami, olives, toms, cucumber, pepper slices, gherkins and chilli, one cheese triangle, plums, clementine and a small glass of pear cider! (12PP)

Snacks en route and at home - crispy croc crisps - about one and three quarter packs in all so counting as 7PP, 4 toasted coconut mushroom sweets (4PP) - far too good, so hid them in the door pocket and demolished a pile of white grapes instead!

Drinks - water, 2 earl grey teas and a vanilla chai tea, both with milk (1PP), one coffee and cream (2PP), one Costa small iced latte (2PP)

Totals 35PP - 29 dailies and 6 weeklies. Remaining weeklies - 16

Was hungry by the evening - wasn't as much 'healthy' food as there should have been, but it was very tasty! The grapes were a pound a punnet from Lidl - a real bargain.
