Well folks, the chilli festival was great. We bought - fudge - probably the best fudge I have ever tasted, no chilli in it though, but loads of different flavours! Also picked up some firecracker salami sticks - far too hot for me but the OH likes torturing himself with one now and again, some Norfolk made soft cheeses - one with lavender and one with apricot, a bottle of ginger beer with chilli and some 'Farmite' sauce - yep, chilli and marmite sauce -just like marmite, you'll either love it or hate it! I was a bit disappointed that none of the stalls selling fresh chillies had any chipotle, as I was hoping to buy some to make my own chipotle paste/chutney. Anyway we had a good couple of hours mooching around there, then went to Sheringham until mid evening, as it was the Carnival week parade, which was good fun.
Today wasn't quite so enjoyable as I had an appointment with the consultant at the hospital this morning. Cutting a long story short I have had one scan, one biopsy and a blood test, and will have to have another more detailed scan to check that the ovarian cyst is unchanged from last time (apart from it getting smaller, which is good). The biopsy results should be in in about a week, but the consultant thinks at this stage that my oestrogen levels are higher than usual after menopause because 'larger ladies' often produce oestrogen because the extra fat cells cause the body to convert other hormones into oestrogen. After menopause we don't have enough progesterone to balance it out and this can cause the bleeding. I sort of knew half of this from the days when I practically lived in the gynae's office! Unfortunately it can also keep the womb lining thicker, which means the ultrasound cannot see if there is anything in the womb lining that shouldn't be there, hence the need for the biopsy to check out the tissue samples. Sorry if TMI there. So I'm sort of halfway there - just have to wait for the second, more detailed scan and the various results. Managed a picnic on the cliff-top afterwards, (even our hospital is beside the sea!) and a short stroll along the sea front, but owing to having to walk like John Wayne without his horse at the moment, we didn't go far!
Food the last two days - picnics, chips and ice-cream, but not huge amounts of any, no chocolate and only one gluten free cake (double choc muffin!) All my weeklies are gone though. Finally feeling the benefits of the wheat/gluten removal though.
Atomic - I have just googled cassava and thyroid function - very interesting. It was very tasty as a chicken coating, but I shall only use it occasionally. Have been 'borderlined' for thyroid function myself, so will be aware of that!
