MWWWD (or Moonwatcher's Weight Watchers Diary!)

Glad to see the first day or so went well with the fasting plan. I wasn't hungry after my first fast day either the next morning which I really expected to be. Going to capitalise on this tomorrow and go to the gym before work and probably wait to have breakfast until I am at work (thinking a muffin with a 2 quorn sausages and a dairylea light slice - real gourmet stuff :) ). Its really odd how quickly it seems this plan triggers a change in the psychology of eating.

I too have never been one for any "fad diets", i have always been quite opinionated about sensible healthy eating and exercise as opposed to practical starvation. But I don't think this is really a fad diet as such. I *think* it more closely resembles the way naturally slim people eat - eating freely most of the time but sometimes going for periods of time not bothering. Its early days for all of us but so far, so good :)

I am quite excited about cooking things I have avoided too :) I'm not planning to indulge all the time (although this week's food diary might suggest otherwise...) but it will be nice to plan to cook a wider variety of stuff again.

Even if your haven't got much appetite at the moment I would suggest trying to keep your calories up a bit. It seems the swing between high and low calorie days is quite important for alot of people that follow any variation of the fasting diet. Maybe you will just have to enjoy the odd liquer coffee ;)

Atomic - didn't replace the kahlua or the brandy when they ran out - too tempting. Now of course I may have to have a rethink!

Update for the rest of the day - don't think I'll have a problem with not enough calories today after all -

Pre breakfast - 2 jam mallow biccies

Breakfast - one crumpet with butter

Lunch - toasted bagel with ham and melted goats cheese, plus a little hot garlic pickle, an apple

Dinner - half a portion of chinese takeaway lemon chicken with some vegetable rice (a few tablespoons - only because it wasn't very tasty though), 2 small spring rolls and a banana fritter!

Snacks - 10 Mars celebrations, one pack Tesco Cheese curls

Drinks - several earl grey teas and rose garden teas with milk, NAS squash and water, two coffees with cream

Seems an awful lot, especially considering I wasn't hungry! Totted up the calories out of interest and it comes to around 2500! I'm feeling a bit like you Atomic - worrying that I have had too much. If I eat that amount for all 4 up days though (which I think is unlikely anyway) that would be 10,000, plus 1500 for the three down days, which is still a 'dieting' level for my size, in theory anyway. I think it will take some getting used to being able to eat like this and get my mind-set to accept that I am still 'dieting.'

Haven't felt at all tempted to have any more of the celebrations, even though it is a full tin sitting on the kitchen worktop!

Looking forward to my second down/fasting day tomorrow. I'm not sure what I'm having yet. This week isn't typical because I'm still at home. Next week will be much more planned for the down days as I *should* be back at work. (Keeping my fingers crossed - feel a little bit better tonight). Tescos order coming tomorrow with some bits and pieces to make the down days easier and healthier.

Friday 1st February - second JUDDD fasting day.

Planned food for today - 500 calories

Breakfast - 20g porridge made up with water and 2 tspns maple syrup (97 cals)

Lunch - one boiled egg with one piece toast as dippy soldiers, juice of one orange (180 cals)

Dinner - 3oz lean pork steak, roasted with chilli and garlic flakes, 1 small steamed carrot and 2oz green beans, 100g potato, dry roasted with salt and black pepper, one tbspn low fat mayo, quarter of a hartley's sugar free lime jelly (223 cals)

Drinks - water, green tea with vanilla, black coffees

Have had the porridge, and although I can't say I prefer it made with water rather than with milk, it was surprisingly creamy. I decided I would rather have a small amount of potato wedges tonight instead of milk! 20g also made a reasonably good sized portion.

Hopped on the scales as I'm interested to see the fluctuations with the Up/Down days. I was up one pound after yesterday's up day. I expected it to be more, so it will be interesting to see what the scales say tomorrow. Saturday is my usual WI day, so I'm going to weigh and see, although I won't have had a full week on JUDDD.

Well the scales say one and a half pounds off this morning, which considering that I only started Judd-ing on Wednesday, had a big meal out on Saturday, fish and chips on Tuesday and pretty much wasn't following any plan fotr the rest if the week, I reckon is a pretty good result. I suppose you could basically call it a two fast day week, although I didn't really eat enough on all of the other five days for that. Anyway the scales now show a 14 again - 14 st 12.5 pounds! Looking forward to my first full JUDDD week this week and especially to my weekend of two UP days! Also feeling better but have almost completely lost my voice. Still coughing, but that's a given!

Good news on the loss. Definitely bodes well for the next week :) I am really enjoying being excited about an eating plan again.

Ohh great loss. Can't wait to see the result after a full good week

Thanks.Yes I was pretty happy with that result, especially as it is quite rare for me to lose more than half to one pound a week usually. I will be doing my best to follow the plan tonight with a visit to a local pizza/pasta place on the cards for later. A yummy pasta dish, salad with blue cheese (yep blue cheese) dressing and a dessert are all on the cards, plus a couple, or few, drinks. It is so important to follow these diet plans properly!

I absolutely agree! Very important to follow them to the letter ;) That's clearly why I am going out tonight for a blue cheese and bacon burger and curly fries with a beer or two :)

All those upcoming options sound lovely by the way. Very much all the things that I would opt for too. I won't have many options to cook exciting things this week as I am out tonight, will be fasting tuesday and thursday, having friends round immediately after work on monday and then going to stay with my mum on friday. That only leaves Sunday and Wednesday to get inventive.

Sounds like a busy week ahead there Atomic. This really is a perfect diet to work into one of those sort of weeks though isn't it? I hope the weather stays on your side for the visit to your mum this time. Well, I did my absolute best tonight - we started with a shared portion of garlic ciabatta with balsamic caramelized onions and mozzarella. I followed that with a seafood pasta - fresh tuna, crayfish and king prawns with pesto and toasted pine nuts - and a mixed salad. Despite my best intentions I had to leave some of that to ensure I had room for the lemon tart with cream and a blackcurrant coulis. One glass of prosecco and a huge liqueur coffee to wash it all down. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a starter and a dessert and a couple of drinks other than diet coke or mineral water all at one meal. If this diet works as well as everyone says then I will be one very happy bunny!

Oooooh ooooooh ohh! That sounds good. Actually I think my weekend plans have changed - I think I am now coming to Norfolk to stay with you for the weekend!!

Like you, I am quietly excited about what you can eat on this plan and still seemingly lose weight. I do come back to my theory that its more like how naturally thin people eat - they may have the meal you had but there would probably be other times in the week when they ate very little. I think it will be a real test of this diet that the first couple of weeks i am doing it I have loads on socially including a weekend with my mother so my eating is not going to be very restrained. I think I would have been looking at quite a gain normally.

Are you feeling any better now? Are you back to work tomorrow? I think the fasting is definitely easier for me when I am at work and busy, although it does means I don't have the opportunity to have as many drinks as busy for me equals being out all day doing home visits. I am wondering about getting a flask so I can have herbel tea in the car inbetween!

You would be very welcome Atomic, although I can't take the credit for cooking it this time - only for eating it! Yes I'm very excited about the whole thing, and what has surprised me the most is that I seem to be as excited about the fasting, or Down days as I am about the Up ones! That I most definitely wasn't expecting!

I am back in work today.Still not feeling great but a lot better than I was thanks.

My OH wants to do the diet too -more for the health benefits although he would like to lose a few pounds. After reading through the books a bit more I am going for a 24 hour 'down day' from dinner time to dinner time - 7.00pm or 8.00 pm ish. It might change here and there. I was a bit uncertain at first as it seems a bit like cheating but apparently it is acceptable, to have dinner out of the next 24 hour up day. It will make it more likely that he will stick to it,so we'll see how it goes.

Great to hear you're still feeling really positive about it Moonwatcher :) I will be interested to see how you get on with the 8pm til 8pm, I did think about it myself but wondered whether it would actually be a little harder than the whole day approach. I think there would be the temptation to gradually make it a 23.5 hour fast then a 23 hour fast etc etc. For me anyway. I think I like the absoluteness of the whole day approach but I will definitely consider breakfast til breakfast or lunch til lunch at times when that would be more convenient.

Was it your OH that cooked that fab sounding meal then? Wow. My OH can order a pizza very capably but that is where his culinary talent ends.

I also find myself looking forward to the up days rather than dreading them. I think I really like the feeling of control, which probably isn't that healthy to be honest, but I do kind of get off on controlling something I never thought I would be able to.

So today's down day food is as follows. Commencing from 8.00 pm Sunday night, until 8.00 tonight.

Before bed last night - water and diet drinks only

Breakfast - 3oz greek yogurt with 2 tspns maple syrup (147cals)

Lunch - one tin weight watchers tomato soup with two slices small seeded loaf (246cals)

Snack - one celebrations chocolate (maybe not the best choice, but it was so delicious and I don't seem to have issues with it setting off hunger pangs, which I know some people do) (45cals)

Drinks - loads of water, one black coffee, green teas with vanilla, rose garden teas - two with a splash of milk in each (calling it 15 cals each - 30cals)

Total for the 24 hour period = 468 cals. Water and green tea now until dinner at 8.00 pm, which will be from my up day's calories.

Yes I'm giving it a try. I think the OH will fare better that way as he likes his food so much and this way he only has to make his 500 cals last until the evening meal. He never eats breakfast anyway, so it will be 500cals for his lunch, fruit and drinks, which should be quite do-able for him. I'm not one of these saintly people who will cook two lots of meals, so he gets what I get!

OH didn't cook the pasta etc no,although he's not a bad cook when he puts his mind to it. It was at a small pizza/pasta place by the beach at Cromer. Tables in the big windows, overlooking the sea and the pier, literally on the edge of the promenade. We haven't been there in the summer yet, but we are planning to (most definitely on an up day!)

Oh my! That place sounds perfect :) Would be great in the summer by the sounds of it.

I am very much the same - OH gets to fend for himself (which is a traumatic, messy and usually unhealthy business) or he gets what I am cooking. There is no cooking two meals in this household, unless one is reheating leftovers from a previous day. I did ask my OH if he was interested in trying the fasting but he said he was more happy just to eat the up day meals :/ But to be fair he isn't overweight in the least, doesn't drink at all and is really healthy so I guess i can see there isn't really an incentive for him.

Had jacket potato, baked beans, sausages and low fat mayo on Monday evening after the end of the 24 hours.

Today's food choices have a touch of irony to them. It seems the 'self regulating' aspect of this diet came into play, as although I could have 'anything,' I really fancied jacket spud with tuna, onion and salad cream and a mixed salad for lunch! I did make my dressing with olive oil and sesame seeds, and have as much salad cream as I wanted - but still a pretty healthy choice. This evening I only fancied 2 boiled eggs and dippy buttered soldiers, followed by fresh melon, pear and stem ginger! I have had a few celebration chocs, and some cream on my fruit, so that will have put the calories up a bit, plus of course I had plenty of calories at the weekend, so I'm not worried that the calories will be too low. In fact I'm still wondering if my weekend meals out may have been too high in calories. Having said that, Sunday' s food was a roast pork dinner - no pudding, and a cream doughnut later, but nothing else. I haven't counted calories over my up days and I'm trying really hard to relax and trust in it working. Down day tomorrow. I'm still not completely sure about the evening to evening 24 hour fast as I wonder if it will push my total weekly calories up too far...

Food for 8pm Tuesday to 8pm Wednesday 24 hour down day.

One slice of warburton seeded bread - 400g loaf with two tspns butter and two of orange marmalade (185 cals)

One weight watchers tomato soup with two more slices bread (248 cals)

One tbspn cream in a cup of coffee (70 cals)

Total 503 cals

... and just had a small bowl of pasta with toms, salami, veg, cheese and chilli sauce, a couple of mini sausage rolls. Just about to round off the evening with some fruit.

Food sounds good :) Sounds like things are clicking in terms of food choices. I do wonder whether splitting the fast between two days might actually encourage better food choices rather than the mentality of "diet days" and "non-diet days". I will be interested to see how it works when I try it next week anyway.
