Susie and Orbit's daily dribble

Wow Susie, the 2 bed has a gorgeous finish - but I like the 3 bed too and you could make it your own.

My great grandparents lived in a static caravan for years. Not sure I'd want to do that, but def good for holidays. Or just rent nice little cottages and go wherever you like!

Thanks love :)

I want to make clear - I go on about this whole house buying thing because -

a) I'm on my own, I need to be able to pay for it

b) I've never had money for a deposit before - and never will again - so I keep changing my mind - but it's because I just want the best thing for Orbs and me. I have one shot at getting it right.

c) I can't stop asking peoples' opinions - my friends here, my friends in real life, so to speak - I know I should stick to a decision - but that's not me, and all of your advice is valued and helps me fight against my natural impulsive self that would see me buying a ruin in Italy and regretting it later :)

End trans xxx

Fft house buying is one of the biggest decisions you can make, you wouldn't be normal or sensible if you didn't take time and consider your options - especially as you have them, you're not moving in a rush for a job or for some other imperative

I always watch those house buying programmes shouting at the screen as they find fault with glorious houses - what's wrong with it!! I'd live there in a heartbeat!! - but when it's your own decision it's very different, it just has to be right for you xx

When we bought our 2nd house we visited over 70 before we found the "one". We knew as soon as we saw the house that it was the one......you will know when it is right. Sadly we had to leave the area and the house. Good luck with the search.

more like "more please" i love nosing :D
you need to visit it in real life to "feel" the house.
xx

Hi Susie,
Always enjoy virtual house hunting with you - feel free to continue:). Think we will pass each other travelling - we leave the villa saturday morning and get to paris sunday and then home monday - unfortunately DD due back at school and i have rather a lot of commitments stacked up! Sure you will have a fab time!
Xxx

I love the virtual house hunting too, and yes it is because I'm nosey :D The finish on the 2 bed in Woolwich is lovely and you could just move straight in with no work. But there's the rub, you're such a creative person and can see the potential in everything. If it's top of budget and you later decide that this or that could be better there wouldn't be the cash to pay for it.
As an aside I wouldn't say that I fell in love with my house but the more I thought about it the more I knew it was the right one and needed to make an offer. And like you it was my one chance to get it right as I knew I wouldn't be able to afford to move again. In the words of Louie Armstrong you have all the time in the world xx

Afternoon all

Thanks for all your lovely thoughts and comments - and Lisa, I hear what you're saying about having the money to do stuff - and having time to decide!

I am so hugely impulsive, I have to stop myself buying a ruin in Italy! :D But think you may have come up with the answer on the park home thing, Lisa - more research to be done today while I pretend to do work. the place is empty - everyone's 'working from home' because of the Paralympics.

I have lived in a static twice in my life Susie, and would do so again in a heartbeat, having one as a holiday home would be bloody wonderful to me but not likely unless the numbers come up. Great suggestion from Lisa. And the 2nd house is very pretty, am getting lazy in my old age lol xx

I agree Brendle, I'd be more than happy in a static, especially one with a sea view :) I had a look at one park site where you put a deposit down and pay money off monthly, and then sublet it to cover the park costs.

I just rang about the pretty house - the owners are not interested in an offer below £190K, so it might be beyond my budget - especially when I can do the same treatment on the other one :)

Having a lovely time here doing absolutely no work but sounding industrious!

I now know lots about static caravans and have joined a forum just like this but for van owners :) The main reason a lot are so cheap (apart from the recession) is that most parks will only let you keep a van there for 10-12 years, then you need to buy a new one.

A better idea is a park home but they can get expensive. I like this one though - 1 bedroom mobile home for sale in Victoria Way, Winchelsea Beach, TN36, TN36 - and love the thought of Camber Sands, it's one of my favourite places.

Also just got an update on the job - ads are going out now, and they are interviewing the first week of October. So I should know by the end of that week, all being well...

Some residential sites are the same with the age of vans Susie. Also watch out for council tax traps as they are considered a residence - not sure how that works for holiday homes but if I remember rightly they are excluded. You need to factor in annual site fees for both options. Ooh I like Winchelsea and Camber too.

Mmm I see what you mean.

I think this is the same one? Only cheaper - 1 bedroom park home for sale in Victoria Way, Winchelsea Beach TN36 - 16771632 - Zoopla

Can be residential for 10 1/2 months, so the annual fee is much cheaper, about £1400 a year (they can go up to £5K plus) and no council tax if it's not completely residential all year round.

Later - just had a lovely conversation with the agent and got the lowdown! It is a permanently sited home, with new kitchen and bathroom, fully insulated so keeps the warmth in in winter, has its own garden with a pretty hedge and fence separating it from the other homes and just a few minutes from the beach. There are just 12 homes there altogether, there's a site manager, and some people live there for the whole 10 1/2 months. The only charge is £1300 ground rental a year, plus water - about £200 a year - and electricity. I'm going to see if it's still available when I get back and go and see it - and could put a deposit down! I love it - it's a perfect size for one - and there's room in the garden to pitch a tent for visitors :D I'd probably just rent it out over the school holidays to cover the rental...but of course free to family and friends :D

Hope you have a lovely day - I'd move to a static - or would love an Airstream in my dreams! lol

Italy is so close now!! xx

I always wanted a static home, maybe in a few years when kids finished school ans college.....if I have any money!

Thanks Lisa - I'll have a look at that when I get back.

Morning all - mad effort to get to work today, buses late, traffic everywhere and Greenwich is packed with the start of the paralympic equestrian events!
