Susie and Orbit's daily dribble

Thanks lovelies

Diem, I didn't know you and Smiley were planning vlcd too - it will be fantastic to get your support! And give it too :)

I think if I can just get past the first few days, I might be OK :sigh:

Another crisis on the flat front - just when I thought things were going smoothly!

The freeholder wants to charge me £2,300 for the right for me to make structural changes by putting in two sets of French doors....can't believe how much they want! Feeling really upset about it, tbh...:(

Noooo Susie sorry to hear this, how rubbish and upsetting. Hmm doesn't sound right, if it's freehold surely it's yours to do what you want? Can you try to get that amount off the purchase price at all?

The flat's not freehold, hun, it's leasehold. And apparently the freeholder can charge whatever they like - they have to issue a license to allow me to do the work, and if I don't get it I can be sued to kingdom come.

I really resent being held over a barrel like this!

Wow...that's horrible, Susie :( I'd be spitting tacks! Don't suppose there's any way you can negotiate it down?

:bighug: (I'm having a rubbish day, but I think you probably need one of these more than I do!xx)

Thanks girls - I am really down about it now :(

The solicitor is trying to find out if they will come down - but she says even if she did, it would only be by £100-200.

So my options are -

- pay it (no way!)
- don't pay it, don't have the doors put in
- don't proceed with the sale

its so tempting to tell them to stuff it isnt it!! dont act rashly give it all a lot of thought first xx

I think I'd be so angry I'd tell 'em to stuff it and look for somewhere else, but that's just me.

I guess it depends how much having those doors means to you - is it a deal breaker? Would you be happy with the place regardless?

Stubbsey is right - give it lots of thought and don't do anything hasty xxx

Susie, that's rubbish news and I'm really sorry about it. But you don't need the wine really, you absolutely can get through without it and it won't help during the vlcd either, so don't let it be your crutch now. I'm not preaching, I just want to help you when you do the vlcd and I'm starting now! I'm putting kisses here to soften my message a bit and show that I'm not being mean! xx

Good luck with the VLCD... i did Exante a couple of years ago, managed to stick out about 3 weeks and lost loads of weight. Unfortunately went off the wagon in spectacular style and gained it all back plus more, but it did work while i was on it :).

Haven't read the whole topic, but if this is about a flat you are wanting to buy, how about 'sharing' the cost with the seller by asking for a reduction in the buy price and explaining the position? Ask for £1,150 off... not gonna work if the flat is in a desirable area maybe though and could otherwise get their asking price easily.

That is awful, any chance the vendor would go halves with you....I know they would not benefit from the improvements but I am sure they are eager to sell.....it would be worth a try before you think about pulling out of the purchase.

Just noticed the post above says the same as me.....I got distracted by the phone and just sent the post when I got off the phone......

Hi all, just in the door.

Thanks guys re suggesting a reduction in the asking price - they won't do it, my solicitor just came back to me. They also won't reduce the amount demanded for the consent - but it is a deal breaker because it's a very dark little flat without the extra light.

Smiley love thank you so much for your post, I know you are only trying to encourage me into good habits - they just may not start today because My Life Known as a Soap Opera continues.

At 5pm i got a call from an agent down in St Leonards, who has just taken an instruction on the flat I tried to buy earlier - the lovely 3 bed flat that needs almost nothing doing to it. Apparently all the legal problems have been sorted out and they will take £125K - £15K cheaper than I was going to pay last time.

Now I just don't know what to do. Buy a little flat in outer London with extortionate freeholders - or buy the lovely flat on the coast and have an awful commute....oh god....
